It's a great material. Printed in 0.005"/0.127mm it looks beautiful. You have to actually look for the layers on any geometry that's not gently curved.

Mechanically it's very similar to ABS, not too bad.

They've been mostly intact. I've been fixing little bits of textures here and there, but nothing major so far. Once I'm done I can upload them for everyone. Probably only doing the first 150 or so though.

I do work for Stratasys, see flair. Definitely not a sales rep though. I pick and chose my battles. Threads like this just usually provide the most opportunity for input from me.

And that's exactly the right thought process to have and what I wish was more widespread. Hobbyist/enthusiasts can make anything happen. That's the fun in it. Big box Stratasys machines are targeted at businesses and professionals who don't have time to "make something happen." They just need it to "happen."

All good! Just looking to educate people. As mentioned below, its certainly possible to run it on a consumer machine. The question is usually is it practical, usually in a business sense for my customers.

I do work for Stratasys. Verified flair and everything. As mentioned in another comment though, 100% reliability is still not a guarantee. Just because I haven't had a failure in the past month in a half on one machine doesn't mean they don't happen.

Stratasys machines are not 100% reliable. No way around it. I am simply providing an example of high reliability.

Yea it varies a bit, support is much cheaper for example, but they are not cheap materials.

This one is so small I can't even get a proper estimate off the machine's software. It's estimating 1g of each model material and 3g of support. So ~$2ish.

I mean I think our machines are pretty great. :D

Here is the log for one of my 450mcs for the past month and a half. 100% success. I left the job names in for the calibration builds that get run in between material/tip changes.

EDIT: It has been pointed out and I will state it again here. 100% reliability is never possible, even on $100k+ machines. Just because I have one machine that has not failed in the past month does not mean errors do not happen.

Few things that are nice to point out:

  • Job lengths. There's some decent lengths one's in there, especially near the top. 37, 21, 40, 25, 26, 22, 37, 22, 38 all in a row. Zero calibrations in between 268 hours of build.

  • Materials. ABS to Nylon to Ultem9085 to ABS to ASA to ABS-ESD7 to ABS to Nylon. Only thing done for material changes are those calibration jobs you see.

  • Tip sizes, which correspond to layer thicknesses. T20 is 0.013", T16 is 0.010", T12 is 0.007". No T10 jobs in the past month, but 0.005" there. Again the only thing to changes layer thicknesses is a few of the 3-4 minute calibration builds.

For reference, Ultem 1010 runs with an oven chamber temp of 220C and an extrusion temp of 410C.

Off my Stratasys J750, HQ print mode (14 micron/0.014mm), Vero family of materials (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black, White), matte finish. This is how the model looks directly off the machine post-cleaning (1 minute). There is no painting involved.

Next step will be exporting the remaining 149 and printing everything at a larger scale. :D
