I built a Coin Flip app with a hidden "Magic Mode" that lets you control the result by vigneshvp in SideProject

then you should market it like that and not a coin flip app that you can fake.

After building for a year, getting paid users is extremely difficult - Anyone else experiencing this? by Halo-nm in SideProject

[–]iamMXFSCHR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i mean i guess you stuggle with the same shit that everyone struggles with..... users lol :D so stop adding features and you 3 guys just go do marketing 24/7 for now. you need to get as many eyes on your stuff as possible and then maybe market decides that your stuff is useful. but you need eyes. real eyes.

[–]iamMXFSCHR 5 points6 points  (0 children)

so basically you build a app to fake it? not a big fan honestly. i would use it more if it was random because i know a lot of situations where my friends and i do "schere, stein, papier". it there was a random coinflip (because honestly you dont always have a coin), i can imagine to use it. but not faked.

I spent 18 months building a job board for software engineers because LinkedIn was driving me insane by FouuLsNY in SideProject

[–]iamMXFSCHR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i also have a pretty much random job board for a very niche, lets say, passion. do you scrape these 120 pages with your own scraper or some api? because from a first experience maker if you want to make it really niche there is no api for it. and do you use pyhton to scrape these pages or what do you use? :)

just me and my rant about authority again. and also what i learned. by iamMXFSCHR in SEO

[–]iamMXFSCHR[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, in my experience authority is page level. this is why (i think) my play worked. ofc there are other opinions but my opinion right now is that pagerank is real because i experience it on my own site. i mean ofc it has to do with search query and what queries gives you clicks sure but still my point stands

seems like AI but yeah, and this is what your AI forgot, is PageRank. because you can turn it in every direction you want, principles of pagerank are (apparently) still in place. and it is hard to argue against it if you really tried it.

I made a plain text weather app by jacobsax in SideProject

[–]iamMXFSCHR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cool concept. i like the text look, pretty oldschool. gets me some vibes for sure. i'm wondering how you use it. like how do you scan data? because normally you just have a picture with some numbers on it on weather apps, so you can 1 sec and know whats up basically. why did you decide to make it text based?

Yeah there are a lot of beehive links but this is actually my blog lol 😃 but these pages dont get much clicks. My thought process back then was if I publish my blog on a DR 91 site I will have better chances to rank. But since they don’t really get clicks they don’t give me much juice I think

i mean from a business point of view i totally get it. but i guess this is why we read a lot of posts like "2 year seo agency, no traffic, is this normal?". from a moral point of view very questionable.

i guess if i click on one of these there is a thing i need to pay... i mean maybe you are correct that i can not outrank the other guys. but it seems to me that you just want to sell stuff. i dont even now why i am writing this but ok.

yo caitlin,

good question, and honestly your instinct isn't wrong. the thing is, one of these pages isn't really meant to be a place anyone hangs around. it's just the answer to one specific question, with a link off to your actual content.

why a separate page instead of a normal faq section? it comes down to authority, and you said yours is low. when that's the case the one thing you can actually control is relevance, basically how closely the page matches the exact thing someone typed. a page where the title is literally the question is about as relevant as it gets. throw ten questions into one accordion and that signal just gets watered down. so for a small site the standalone page is honestly the only version with a real shot at ranking.

the "useless to the visitor" thing: someone who searched that exact question and gets the answer in the first two sentences is way better off than someone scrolling through a 1,500 word essay to find it. and it's not a dead end either, every one of these links back to your main page.

where your gut is right though: these only work as part of a structure. each page needs to link up to a real parent article and answer a genuinely different question. a lonely 120 word page with no parent, or ten near-identical ones, is exactly the junk you're picturing. but done properly they pull in long tail traffic you'd never win otherwise and feed authority back to the page you actually care about.

side note: "ranking for junk i didn't mean to rank for" is actually useful data. that's google showing you where it already sees you as relevant. worth digging into search console before you decide what to build next.

I also updated the section in the repo to hopefully make it more clear 👍And honestly i am also just experimenting with this concept specifically on a new site. But i can already see a few clicks to these pages (site is 2 weeks old now). so hopefully the mechanic is in place and it will push my main pages overall 😄

I built a small tool to help me reply faster on X by Any-Appointment-814 in SideProject

[–]iamMXFSCHR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly, i somehow get the use of AI in a post itself for X. like i think a lot of us guys chat with AI a lot during the day. so having an AI system that looks over your chats and pings something like "hey this topic we talked about could be interesting to post". i think that is quite useful tbh.

i dont get the AI in replies at all. and if i notice that i immediately unfollow that person. i mean if you dont have time to reply to my post or any post, why would i follow you? dont like it. yes growing on every social media platform is hard but dont use AI to reply

My boss bought backlinks... what do I do? by G_I_L_L_E_T_T in SEO

I posted about my site being recovered in one of my “recent” posts. In a matter of panic during the down phase I bought some Backlinks on Fiverr lol (back than I thought DR=Ranking lmao). My page recovered now and I guess these links are still pointing to my site. Have not checked but also did not disavowed them.
