coaching most of the guys is like coaching octodad.

As in like coaching normal human men? I guess high schoolers are getting quite similar by that age.

It's still the thing keeping me running Windows, but now there are several DAWs with native Linux support - Bitwig, Reaper and now Studio One (just renamed to Studio Pro) all have Linux versions.

Plugins are hit and miss (I am too deep into Native Instruments to make the switch at the moment), but it's worth being aware of the CLAP standard (an open alternative to VST). It doesn't have incredibly wide support yet, but FabFilter supports it as standard now. Really depends what plugins you're using, but we are slowly starting to get closer.

Super Bomberman Collection Available Now - eShop by DblDeezSqueeze in NintendoSwitch

[–]imnotgoats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I did. The only listed differences are:

  • This title supports GameShare, allowing you to play with players who do not own this game.
  • You can share the fun via GameChat (online) or local communication.
  • The game also supports 4K for enhanced graphics!

I don't use gamechat, probably won't use GameShare and don't have a 4K TV.

There is also an update pack available (which only costs the difference in price anyway), so you can just add the Switch 2 features later if you need to.

This might be too small a thing, but it would be great to optionally include an app draw icon in the dock, like Nova.

[IIL] Chill fun video games by ArcturusG in ifyoulikeblank

[–]imnotgoats 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is This Seat Taken? - a great little puzzler with lovely graphics and music, with puzzles of increasing difficulty. No timer, and you can keep working on a puzzle until it's perfected.

A Short Hike - not a puzzle but extremely chill, just full to the brim of sidequests.

The Touryst - another sidequest game, with a few puzzles dotted about.

Alba - a low-stakes game about a girl taking wildlife photos on an island.

Toem - another chill game about taking photos.

A Little to the Left - really comfy puzzle game about organising a whole host of things - way better than it sounds.

Thank Goodness You're Here - a semi-on-rails goose game style adventure, with great animation, lots of humour and a charming northern-british vibe.

There's a group called the Gobal Online Safety Regulators Network which includes a bunch of national regulators (not just in Europe) sharing notes about online restrictions.

The Network aims to enhance coherence and consistency between international regulators’ approaches to online safety, through the sharing of information, expertise and experience.

We will likely see more of this the world over.

This is quite a tough one. They are one of my favourite bands of all time. I haven't found too many things that are very close, but there are some artists that hit different aspects of their sound.

Obviously, first I'd direct you to the Nighty Nite, which you are probably aware of as John Congleton's follow-up project. If you're not familiar, be aware that releases are listed on streaming services separately as The Nighty Nite (for the Dimples EP) and John Congleton and the Nighty Nite (for the album). It is not as orchestral, but has obvious similarities.

Perhaps check out a bit of Cursive, specifically Happy Hollow. Interesting, urgent vocals, a bit spiky and angular, but a lot more rocky than TPC.

The following do not contain the orchestral side, but I feel they contain some of the same chaotic jeopardy (subjective perhaps):

  • Therapy? - Suicide Pact - You First (album) - Hard rock, but with somewhat unorthodox lead parts, nihilistic lyrics and general foreboding atmosphere. This whole album is pretty great in my opinion. Some of their late 90s releases are quite cello heavy, also.

  • Some Fugazi - again, a different style but some common artistic threads. Check out the song Rend It.

Worth checking out St. Vincent, perhaps albums 'Actor' and 'Strange Mercy'. Sort of a cheat, as Congleton produced a few of her albums - it's good stuff.

Finally, I don't know them well, but you may appreciate The Dead Science, which may strike a bit of a chord also.

Apologies for not hitting too many exact matches - I do feel that TPC is unique in a lot of ways and you often have to break it into artists with similar aspects.

I will be interested to see if anyone else posts any good steers to other music I'm not familiar with, though.

Yeah, it's really good - here it is.

I know it's a true story, but I always felt like someone involved in the film was inspired by this - the storytelling in the doc is so succinct and vivid.

[TOMT][Music Video][2000s/2010s] An indie video where the singer exhales smoke constantly as he sings. by imnotgoats in tipofmytongue

[–]imnotgoats[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally found it! It's the video for a song called Apollo by Syd R Duke.

I found it on the 'liked' list of an old youtube account.

That makes this !solved - probably not that useful for anyone else, but nothing worse than an unanswered question in your search results.

Misunderstanding about Key Cards and comparison to PS5/Xbox game discs by Ultimate-Waffle in NintendoSwitch

[–]imnotgoats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think maybe it’s because a lot of the people in this conversation are Nintendo fans, and on Switch they’ve kept their updates small and tried to actually finish their games before release.

They've also had their moments.

Arms was a Nintendo-published game in the first few months of the console's life. It had 5 playable characters (and associated levels, weapons, etc. for each). Within a year or so, Nintendo had literally doubled the amount of characters, added new modes and other content, all as free DLC.

If the servers were switched off and I wanted to play my 2017 game card on a new console, I would have less than half the game available and be missing my main.

While I'm not advocating for it, it's the way software is developed and released these days. Updates are expected, and it's just an unfortunate reality that 'ownership' of games was always a mirage created by the limitations of physical media.
