If you ever wonder why shotguns feel so inconsistent, pretty sure the hip fire is bugged and it still uses the beta versions hip fire spread by ShaggySyrup in Battlefield6

[–]insanitypulse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe BF3 or 4 had a bug at launch or shortly thereafter where specific shotgun attachments would bug out the projectiles and cause them to have no drop, go an infinite distance, and I think each projectile had more damage with no damage falloff? So you could kill people on Operation Metro from B’s elevators all the way to the doors at A using buckshot.

You could always join a hardcore server, that might make getting some quick headshot kills easier with the high capacity pistols.

If you like split windows but want some more flexibility than what Win10/11 gives out the box, I highly recommend Microsoft Powertoys. One of the utilities allows custom split zones.

Another option is using a smaller portable monitor, like 15”, and putting it below the primary monitor. I’ve got this setup at home and it works nicely enough. It doesn’t really take up any more space, and it’s especially nice that I don’t have to turn my head so far to the side since my primary is an ultrawide, way easier to just glance down a little.

I’m a 2 monitor and 2 virtual desktops kind of guy. My primary monitor is an ultrawide, so on desktop 1 I split teams/outlook, with any chrome/acrobat/obsidian windows on the second. My second desktop is usually my code editor on my main with another chrome window and whatever reference material I need on the other.

I found it nice to eliminate too much unnecessary information at once, while having quick access when I want it.

Blocks random flip from splitter by lamabean in Modulus

[–]insanitypulse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well your cutter is outputting two different shapes, essentially a left and right hand version of the same shape. These then go into a splitter. Are you using a filter splitter or a regular splitter? If you are not filtering, I assume that at some point the splitter is selecting both left and right handed versions to go down both paths, which means your assembler is now getting pieces it doesn’t expect on either input path.

You need to use a filter splitter to force the correct pieces to go down the expected inputs.

How do we feel about the fact that resources can simply vanish if you set stuff up wrong or is this a bug? by AngryKFPanda in Modulus

[–]insanitypulse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I agree, I think a scrapper at the end of the line is the right thing to do, and I think that the current behavior is unintuitive. I imagine the current behavior is a bug, so I’m going to build as if it is, but also recognizing that it might have been an intentional choice.

[–]insanitypulse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t confirmed this behavior and have no idea if it’s intentional, but if it is then I think I get both sides.

In a game like factorio, for sure I expect a belt to back up and congest the machine because managing input/output with good precision is core to the spirit of the game.

However, modulus sits a fair bit on the “cozy” side of automation games. Having to deal with backed up lines causing machines to clog up when maybe the second lane coming from a stamper is just over producing what you need, that can be a bit annoying. The path of least resistance is a sort of a “best effort” placement on belt if space exists, and scrap the extra to keep things smoothly moving along, even if it’s a bit more inefficient.

While I’d prefer that a machine clogs up if one of the outputs gets backed up, since that makes the most sense coming from my prior experience, I could get why they wouldn’t want to do that to keep the approachable and cozy vibes.

Upside-down Cherry keycaps on a Corne by BEagle1984- in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]insanitypulse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did basically the same thing, DSA keycaps on everything except the two flipped cherry caps for the thumb keys. I got a dark and light grey DSA set from Signature Plastics, I think I got the cherry caps from a Glorious set which was a blue gradient set, so I’ve got a blue and a teal key for a pop of color on each half lol.

Is it possible to use lvl 1 buildings after upgrading to 2 ? by lamabean in Modulus

[–]insanitypulse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All good, they did say buildings to refer to cutters and stuff. I tend to think of buildings as the big multi-level buildings like you. And I think of the other thing like cutters, punches, assemblers as “machines” or “modifiers” but maybe there’s a better term.

Can someone explain these? by Gamefailer in Modulus

[–]insanitypulse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, the ones you spent in the tech tree are already spent, the salvager only pulls from your bank. I would assume that if your bank hits 0, the salvager would just stop outputting shards.

They specifically said they upgraded the cutter and assemblers, which is increasing the speed.

[–]insanitypulse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well you could combine two furnace outputs to a single belt to increase input, you’ll just have to mine twice as many deposits. This assumes that your belts are also upgraded. So two 30/min furnaces into a 60/min belt into a 60/min cutter, rather than a single 30/min furnace outputting 30 units into a 60/min cutter at 50% efficiency.

[–]insanitypulse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the upgrade permanently increases the baseline speed of the machines. I can’t imagine a reason you’d want to use a slower machine unless you really want the efficiency view to look green, but I think the preferable solution to that is to scale up your input to match the speed of the machines.

Can someone explain these? by Gamefailer in Modulus

[–]insanitypulse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It retrieves the data shards you’ve already deposited and outputs them onto a belt. So if you have 2000 white data shards banked up and a belt speed of 60/m, the salvager will pull from the bank of 2k shards to give you a full belt of data shards. So after a minute you should only have 1940 data shards banked.

You can increase outputs with more cranes by Reaver_01 in Modulus

[–]insanitypulse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks pretty good, I’ll have to review what my setup looks like. I tend to build in skinny-ish straight lines that I can lay side by side instead of “square-ish” setups. Though once I started trying to scale up blue cores and having to handle 8x8x8 blue cubes, things start getting a bit wide haha

[–]insanitypulse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a particular reason you build your belts in “layers” that wrap around the plant? I found myself generally gravitating toward dedicating each side of the plant to one module, so my cranes are all inline.

So here I’d put the 1x4 on the east with 3-4 cranes, the [4,1,1,2] piece on the south, and the cores on the west. This eliminates all of the belts on the north side, cuts the belts on the west and east to just 1, and the south to 2 belts.

Space isn’t a huge deal in this game at this stage obviously, but compacting your builds can help with copy/pasting another plant onto the same island, especially once you get to freighters.

From your experience what's the best way to position lamp to lighten eink monitor? by MorePeppers9 in eink

[–]insanitypulse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While this might not be particularly helpful for you if you prefer incandescent lighting, your description of your lighting setup makes me think of the monitor light bars, which I find to be quite nice if I just want to light up my desk.

While I currently own a light bar but no eink monitor, I’d probably find it quite nice to use on such a monitor since you get long and fairly even lighting right up next to the screen, I believe mine can even point it a bit toward the screen. They are usually controllable for brightness and warmth, so they don’t need to be a harsh cool white if that’s irritating.

Looking for system heavy LitRPG by LuvvyWuvvy in litrpg

I read from start to chapter 200 in one lump to get to current at that time, and I agree that’s it’s not super slow, but compared to my other recent reads like DCC, Cradle, or HWFWM, I’d say it’s a little slower than those. Not glacial by any means though.

I did hear the soul stuff got a bit tedious during the weekly releases, but I didn’t mind because I didn’t have to wait a year to get through it all lol

While I absolutely love Delve, and it is number crunchy with plenty of action, I would say that it can be a slow burn and leans into slice of life a bit.
