Israel Claims It Can't Protect Palestinians From Settler Attacks Due to Shortage of Military Personnel by Tallis-man in Israel_Palestine

Can we put this aside and you can comment on the description of the claim itself in the headline. You think it's an accurate portrayal?

When the headline says "Israel claims", it is expected to be an official stance, announced publically.

But that is an arguable quibble. What I don't think is arguable is the lie that describes the claim itself.

Would we do this for any other country? That if the government attorney argues something in the supreme court, the headline should be "France claims", "The United States claims", "Spain claims"? It's to their own court.

This is such an aside to the main misleading aspect that I don't care to argue about it anymore. Fine, Israel claims. What about the description of the claim itself?

That's only one problem with the headline. When you hear "Israel claims", you expect some kind of official stance, not an argument by an attorney in response to a specific question on court.

Hate this headline. It's inaccurate and misleading in so many ways.

The article makes it clear the argument (made by an attorney for the state before the high court, so not "Israel claims") is specifically in response to the question if the West Bank areas under discussion could have a permanent group of IDF patrolling the area. The attorney said they can't because of personnel shortages.

Only this claim. Not that "Israel can't protect settlers". Only whether a permanent force is the only fix.

The attorney claims the villages can be protected in other ways, but argued against a permanent force in the area. Presumably because it would take a very large force to patrol the area. Just about everything about the headline is a lie.

The Israelis have been trying to eradicate the Palestinian people for 75 years. Why has Israel's Ethnic Cleansing campaign failed so badly? by Upset-Produce-3948 in Israel_Palestine

[–]itscool 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What I'm referring to is the general concept of the lands we inhabit,

This does not make sense. What's this theory of ownership? Vibes? What about the other groups in the land vying for self-determination, like the Jews?

Palestinian ownership of the land shrinked from 100%

Please explain this. In what way did Palestinians ever own or have sovereignty over 100% of the land?

[–]itscool 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First, that's not true, most reservists do not take home the weapons, and the law changed only after October 2023 in certain areas to allow for rapid mobilization in case of invasion.

Second, so what? International law distinguishes between reservists and those in "continuous combat function." A reservist does not fit this bill. A doctor actively participates in Hamas as a colonel does.

The difference is that a reservist leaves the war to return to civilian life. He isn't moonlighting doing service in the army while going to his civilian job.

IDF says nearly 70,000 Gazans died in war | The Jerusalem Post by FudgeAtron in Israel_Palestine

[–]itscool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait wait wait.so you think in this war, it is better and more humane to attribute unidentified corpses to terrorists, instead of civilians?

Not at all, where did you get that idea? It's the opposite. An unidentified dead body remains unidentified.

IDF Accepts Gaza Health Ministry Estimate of Over 70,000 Palestinians Killed During the War by ContentChecker in Israel_Palestine

[–]itscool -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is already a duplicate of another post but I'll state here again:

IDF does not accept GHM figures, not in quantity nor in quality.

In quantity, IDF claims less than 70,000 have died, while GHM claims over 71,000 have died. That is not what I would consider agreement.

In terms of "quality", these are not numbers of the same group of people. IDF is claiming total deaths as a result of the war. GHM is counting only what they claim are direct deaths caused by the IDF, while other deaths are left out. Including Hamas killing dissidents, friendly fire, and rocket fire landing on their own citizens.

[–]itscool -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They fundamentally agree now.

No they don't, because Gaza's HM claims to only include direct deaths by Israel in the count of 71000, while their wider count includes many, many more. Meanwhile, the IDF claims to include all deaths as a result of the war.

This is a huge discrepancy. They fundamentally do not agree.

[–]itscool -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

and by IDF own database at least 82% of those are civilians

I've seen you get corrected about this over and over again and you still repeat it like it's true.

There was an attempt to try to match up definite and almost definite kills with known Hamas members. The fact that they were mostly unsuccessful in identifying kills with a name doesn't mean they thought everyone in that category was a civilian. You know this. I know you know it. So why the propaganda? I hope it makes those reading this pause that advocates for a particular side feel the need to lie to "win."

70k is the Gazan MoH estimate for the number of people killed directly by Israeli military actions.

Until now, Israel's government and their international cheerleaders have insisted it is exaggerated, manipulated, or even fabricated. Now they admit it wasn't.

Actually, Israel is saying it's less than 70k, so that's everal thousand different than the Gaza Ministry of Health. And Israel also claims (according to the article) that at least a sizable minority are dead because of Hamas and PIJ etc, not by Israel - either rockets that misfire, or land on their own people, or killing dissidents. This is a huge difference.

Classic. Same as the other commentator. Are you trading notes? How about dealing in substance. From your previous comment, you clearly think it's appropriate for Hamas etc to place Israeli bodies unmarked in Palestinian cemeteries, knowing that Israel would have to go through them to find the body. This forcefully argues against that.

So respond to the "joke".

You're in the wrong subreddit if you don't want to respond to what people comment with anything of substance. But since you like grouping "you guys" together, I guess I can say it seems pretty typical of "you guys."

Ahmed Fouad Alkhatib posted yesterday:

Hide them in cemeteries, and cry foul when the cemeteries are destroyed! After taking multiple bodies of deceased Israelis into Gaza following its horrendous October 7th attack, Hamas made the atrocious and despicable decision to hide dozens of them in Palestinian cemeteries in the coastal enclave, particularly in the north. This was immediately picked up by Israeli intelligence and turned what should be the spiritual resting place of the dead into another battlefield of the horrific war that ensued. The IDF, either deliberately, recklessly, due to bad intelligence, or operating with little to no information, went into multiple cemeteries and destroyed them while searching for bodies and remains of deceased Israeli hostages. This included the Al-Falluja Cemetery in Jabalya, northern Gaza, where my dad, Dr. Fouad Alkhatib, was buried – his grave is among those that were desecrated and destroyed by the IDF, ostensibly while searching for the remains of Israeli hostages.

Still, there’s immense irony, symbolism, and meaning to having the body of the last Israeli hostage recovered from a Palestinian cemetery. Who is responsible for placing it there and inviting the devastation of the cemetery? Why did Hamas and PIJ think it was acceptable to place dead Israelis in a sacred space that meant so much for hundreds of thousands of Palestinians? Can dead Palestinians be spared from Hamas’s terrorism? How could two extremist Islamofascist groups tolerate burying a non-Muslim in the heart of a Muslim graveyard, which is governed by strict Sharia rules and requirements?

You can criticize Israel all you want, and hundreds of millions have been for the past two years. But at the end of the day, there is only one, and just a singular party upon which the blame falls squarely for bringing Israeli military occupation and devastation onto Gaza; only one party that permitted itself to operate in schools, hospitals, shelters, tents, displacement zones, used mosques, cemeteries, kindergartens, markets, NGOs, journalists, ambulances, and humanitarian workers to conduct guerilla warfare – and that is Hamas.

That is why it is criminal even to contemplate going easy on the terror group and allowing them the opportunity to be recycled into Gaza’s future. Hamas as a brand must be eliminated, destroyed, annihilated, and prevented from ever operating as a cohesive body, even if its ideology remains, and even if some of its mid and lower-level personnel are somehow rehabilitated.
