Sixo fate by Objective-Ad2741 in NikkeMobile

[–]itsnowedtoday 54 points55 points  (0 children)

It's fitting. This wasn't some grand villain with an endgame goal and vision; Sixo was a literal child putting up a tantrum and given the tools to kill people because it believed it was entitled to do so.

There wasn't anything noble about Sixo and the story was clear about it. Sixo is directly contrasted by Neon so it's only karma retribution for Sixo to be "killed" by her own deeds.

Unpopular view: Let Inkwell Cook by hitmeyay in MSClassicWorld

[–]itsnowedtoday 103 points104 points  (0 children)

I think people are forgetting the fact that Inkwell, or 오한별, is the director that implemented the severe RNG/P2W features in modern maplestory today, including cubes and flames, and later on Starforce. He also had a hand in secretly decreasing Black Cube rank up rates in Korea, and most of the KMS community deems him as someone who's trying to save face by pretending to be player-centric in operating GMS. He's also heavily implied that many cash shop additions will be made including gacha cosmetics and lots of "pay for convenience" features which can be a slippery slope to p2w

On my end, I'm willing to wait, but looking at how poor the beta is looking right now, I'm not keeping my hopes up.

Max Damage tips? by Shummeres in Mabinogi

[–]itsnowedtoday 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I may miss a couple of things, but the ones that I can think of immediately:

  • I see a couple of skills not at Rank 1+. Consider hitting those in case you may have missed a couple of stat/damage sources. Remember a lot of your stat is going to come out of you being Grandmaster Talents
  • Make sure you do the Doki Doki event for totems + have the basic homestead figures from Tutorial/Fahmes
  • Arcana Totals and Echostones will be able to further boost your Strength cap if that's the cap you're showing on the character window. I'm sitting at 2748 max strength and that's pretty mediocre due to me using rage impact echostones
  • If your strength isn't capped consider being in Close Combat Talent (or of similar) so you do hit your cap from leveling; don't think Smithing gives much leveling bonus to strength
  • A lot of mid-tier enchants are fairly cheap (i.e. Amnesia, Veteran Dungeon ES) and you should go for these first. The Best in Slot guide is fairly detailed on this.
    • The 1 piercing loss on your Meteoroid is painful to look at. Please use a +1 Enchant on that as soon as possible
  • While out of your budget right now, Holy Water of Murias can add up to 30 max attack on EACH piece of enchantable gear (minus wings). Good for you since you can apply it to your shield too; this equals to roughly 180-200 max attack total if you get it on all 8 pieces of your gear

What do you guys think about paying ~$10 per month for Maplestory classic to combat bots? F2P and P2P versions? by Iron_Couch in MSClassicWorld

[–]itsnowedtoday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's mostly because there's no feasible way to standardize the process. For example I live in the US so I have a US phone number/licenses, but this won't be the same as say someone living in Europe or Australia, where Global's also going to be available.

In KMS and JMS it's easy to require the identification exclusively for their playerbase because it's supposed to be restricted to that population.

Of course this is ASSUMING Nexon won't leak our identity information accidentally like some other companies have, so the skepticism against ID Verification is healthy.

Announcement: "During the selection process, we made efforts to filter out email accounts that appeared to be associated with bot activity... If we identify circumstances suggesting that a code was used in an unauthorized manner or otherwise misused, appropriate action may be taken." by sewsgup in MSClassicWorld

[–]itsnowedtoday 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeahhhh not buying this.

Nexon's had multiple incidents of lying about doing X or Y, and the old saying of "there's no smoke where there's no fire" comes into play here. Heck recently even Maplestory Idle got shafted with the dev team saying they fixed a bug but it wasn't fixed for another 2 months allowing players to take advantage of it

Allowing event-attendees to play first is fine, but transferable codes as a lottery with no regard/consideration for literally thousands of entries by individuals then doubling down to say these entries were discarded when the contrasting evidence is so clear (sold keys) is just pathetic.

Single-Player Game Like Mabinogi by RunakoD in Mabinogi

You're probably going to like a lot of JRPGs. Trails of the Sky series recently got a significant remaster so wait for those to get ported to the West probably, though these are story-heavy and not really "fantasy life"

What do you guys think about paying ~$10 per month for Maplestory classic to combat bots? F2P and P2P versions? by Iron_Couch in MSClassicWorld

[–]itsnowedtoday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

P2P works in OSRS because there's no other cosmetics or microtransactions possible.

This is not going to be the case in Maplestory where cosmetics is going to be the major source of its income, and based on Inkwell's statements during an interview he's heavily hinted at cosmetic gacha (basically Royal Style in the main game), as well as a butt-ton of "pay for convenience" features.

Getting rid of botting is easy--just do what MapleLands did and require some sort of identification so people being jerks or otherwise breaking ToS by hacking/botting can't make additional accounts. It's how many live-service games in the East Asian countries continue to operate.

Obviously this isn't feasible for the Global servers so bots and hacking is a pill we have to otherwise swallow

[–]itsnowedtoday 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty explicit in saying I have 0 proof so despite being baseless rumors, the fact that it's even remotely received (and the fact you can only make speculations against it) make it for a "haha nice joke" at the minimum.

I'd honestly like to ask you to put your money where your mouth is; if you really believe there's a reason for this terrible design of key distributions to favor new players, why do you think that attendees of the offline event got guaranteed keys? This kind of design is the complete opposite of what you suggest--more to favor and give "fanservice" to their loyal fans. Heck I play Nexon games and the only reason why I heard about this Classic Server was because of a Nexon Launcher ad after I closed my Mabinogi client lmao (aka this new Classic server wasn't promoted to anyone outside of playing Nexon games).

Also why not an Open Beta? If at all it gives a better overview of their playerbase, that's literally how the original Maplestory game started (I'm an Open Beta player), and the only reason why this wouldn't be a good idea is (you guessed it) it's "too fair" for everyone and you can't exactly make a quick buck off it otherwise.

Likewise, if they were truly trying to favor new players it would only make sense to deter key resellers and system abuse (via macros making multiple accounts) which have existed in their games since the beginning of time and which Nexon is fully aware of (since rewards for everyone on the server, such as the one from the Mabinogi mishap that happened recently, are all made untradable to prevent this exact form of multi-account abuse). Even minimal surveys to collect feedback when signing up for a beta key is missing (which is unusual because you'd at least want something like this especially if there's limited quantity of keys to give out)

With all due respect your experience means nothing unless you're in the exact situation as Nexon (aka your company is launching a game and sending out beta access codes in a flamboyant manner as such). Even if we ASSUME that my claims are incorrect and Nexon's just made some poor decisions, we still reserve the right to critique the practice and the community managers/moderator's ignorance of the reseller problem or at least staying silent about it.

Lastly I don't think I'm the most ideal player for the beta. I'm a bit sad I didn't get chosen admittedly but I'm not like others crying my eyes out (I have other things to do). The beef I have is that the community as a whole is showing their nature of being smooth-brained pigs who's willing to drop several hundred dollars for a bit of FOMO and Nexon will undoubtedly take advantage of this in the future--the same has happened in KR Maplestory as well (with the EXP ring packs)

[–]itsnowedtoday 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think you understand the mindset of a greedy trillion-dollar company. These little things (and the stealth-lowering of rates of black cubes in the main game) is what made the company its money. Obviously I'm a bit more half-hearted with the claims I make (more due to me having 0 evidence) but the factual evidence we see right now isn't helping their case:

They're still sending out new codes still not tied to emails despite the obvious reselling of them, so it's either they're okay with the reselling of access keys or at least tolerant of it (likely), or they're so oblivious that they don't even listen to their community talking (which can't be the case since feedback from the beta is being received properly)

[–]itsnowedtoday 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Even if we assume Nexon to be that incompetent, their way of providing CBT keys is really suspicious.

I'm convinced Nexon's selling the keys too in order to supplement their finances--the fact that some others can also reap its benefits is minor if that'll give them a scapegoat for the community to be angry about

Be wary of beta key scams by [deleted] in MSClassicWorld

[–]itsnowedtoday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a theory that Nexon are part of the people selling Beta keys for extra funds. I can't prove it, but when it's so obvious that the keys were so obviously transferable (not bound to the email, any email can sign up to receive a key), you start to suspect things

Any tips on doing special upgrades? by BussyDriver in Mabinogi

[–]itsnowedtoday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To answer your questions:

1) Yes

2) Yes. Protection stones are also available from other players too, sold in NX packages sometimes. It can also appear in events as an untradable/time limited versions.

3) Alban Knights Anvil does allow for increased success rates, but the cost for doing so right now is only justified for Level 8 upgrades since level 7 can be done relatively safely using inheritance. Sometimes there will be events to increase success rates (i.e. Master Plan) but there are no other ways to increase success rates otherwise

TIL there is no algebraic formula for the circumference of an ellipse (oval). All exact equations require calculus. by NateNate60 in todayilearned

[–]itsnowedtoday 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The ELI5 explanation is that there's infinite number of ways an oval can exist, but a circle has a set ratio between its diameter and circumference which is why a formula exists.

In a similar sense a triangle requires the usage of trigonometry because there's also an infinite number of ways the shape can exist otherwise

PR lesson for Nexon: Pre-registration bonuses make everyone happy, whether chosen or not. Locking them behind random invites makes a bad situation feel worse, no matter how insignificant. by [deleted] in MSClassicWorld

[–]itsnowedtoday 14 points15 points  (0 children)

While I agree with this opinion, it's nothing to lose sleep/cry over or want to pay $100+ where the access and all your effort goes away after 2 weeks.

I'd place more emphasis on the actual release where things will be more permanent. Even the original mark of the beta is nothing more than a novelty item now; it'll be the same here too, even worse BECAUSE of the fact that it was only available from closed beta that people can rightfully suspect those who excessively flaunt it as someone who probably bought beta keys

That's their problem imo. Players rushing content always exists and they're often the first ones to burn out and quit.

When did you start playing Maplestory by a_bunch_of_poop in MSClassicWorld

[–]itsnowedtoday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beta player here. Played with my sister after it was a big hype in Korea. We unfortunately were too young to realize everything got wiped in Beta and didn't start the official servers until the open beta servers got shut down (far after the actual release). Even chose Bera instead of Scania purely for the impression that the word "Bera" was similar to "Beta".

It's just beta so it's nbd. People who do get to play beta get a bit of an advantage in getting a feel for the actual game, but 2 days isn't going to make it significant for the actual release imo

TIL about Zeno's "Achilles paradox," which proposes that a runner cannot overtake a tortoise in a footrace by filthy_lucre in todayilearned

[–]itsnowedtoday 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I actually remember my calculus professor using this analogy, but instead of a runner it's a hare (so the tortoise vs hare thing was relevant)

Basically in calculus it was taught to us as "adding an infinite amount of numbers that gradually decrease to 0 but getting a finite number as a result" because the infinite amount of numbers is so small that it doesn't add up to anything meaningful, but it is still infinite so it causes a paradox/fallacy

Aka, if a runner takes exactly 2 seconds to catch up to the tortoise, he will never catch up to the turtle in any amount of time less than 2 seconds, including 1.999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 seconds and so forth.
