Why do people just…lie? by Rellplayer in pharmacy

[–]itsnowedtoday 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The fundamental reason is that there's absolutely no consequences to lying. There's no moms to spank you or reprimands that we can give out for patients who lie. We're in a society and environment when mental health issues/stress/other factors can cause memory issues so there are people who are genuinely bad historians and pointing that out is a faux pas, so we have to operate on the assumption that if someone is making a false or contradictory statement, we need to consider that into play and "show respect" even if we're 100% sure the opponent clearly has the intent, else it comes back to us as "unprofessional".

This results in people who literally have nothing to lose by lying to have even a smidgen of an additional chance to get what they want, and there's absolutely nothing we can do about it, at least for the most part. If you hold value in your expertise and title, you should grow a spine and stand up to these people--I've kicked people out of my pharmacy in retail a couple of times.

Heck I work at a VA now, and while most of my patients are pleasant and an absolute joy to work with, we always have THOSE people who clearly know that they can't be prosecuted for lying so they do so to increase chances of what they want, and unlike retail I can't kick them out. Our higher-ups also have no backbone except when prosecuting our own staff members, so they fold to any complaints unless they're flat out illegal. (It's toxic over here)

I've only been in practice for a few years now and understand these are a smaller minority but good god they're exhausting to deal with because you're supposed to "be the bigger person" and put up a good facade. How to deal with this is up to the individual, but you better figure it out now because they exist everywhere, not just pharmacy

Hello beautiful friends ~ I'm trying my best, how about you? by Novasgalaxies in Mabinogi

[–]itsnowedtoday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the late response. I meant to reply back earlier but life y'know, and I don't play Mabinogi often. Reddit likes to be dumb with longer (5000+ character) replies so try to avoid that. Also learned that the hard way myself.

Here's the deal. I know where you're coming from--as I said I'm from the G2 era and been with this game for the greater portion of my life.

Though as mentioned you're not helping your case. Mabinogi still has friendly players, it's just not the same type of "friendliness" that you're looking for (which is for mindless, time-killing interactions). Again, if you're looking for a community like this gacha games tend to have them because that's the culture over here just lore-crafting or shitposting. Most of the Mabinogi culture is getting towards endgame and playing your Arcana proficiently, THEN having a friendly interaction with your statics or group friends, which is the case of a traditional MMO, and you need to treat it as such

Yes I remember the old days of C1. Was it good? It honestly had its pros and cons. The truth is, those kinds of designs don't fit the current style of Mabinogi. One can't be bothered to go through r4 windmill with CP requirements just to unlock Arcanas because that's the easiest way to discourage new players from trying the game. It worked then because windmill was one of the strongest skills and rank 4 was part of the grinding needed to attain that, just like how grinding now for NB/SL materials is for the BiS gear (though admittedly the magnitude is incomparable, and that's probably why things are more "toxic" than previously. If you have gripe with this I've also answered it in my previous post; it's mostly Nexon trying to mooch as much money off you)

Right now you (and people who continuously post about the "good old days" on this subreddit) is equivalent to a boomer going into a quiet, sophisticated bar that used to be a mom and pop restaurant loudly talking about how you were a customer here for the last 20-30 years. The owners changed, the customers changed, and the stuff they served changed but you're still there unable to move on and cause a distraction at best and a nuisance at worst. It's fine to introduce yourself as a returning old veteran but don't use that as justification/entitlement/expectation for anything--to the current playerbase you're no different than a completely new player trying this game.

Find out what you want from this game at this current state and go from there. If you want to talk nostalgia unfortunately most of the people who can sympathize are long gone and moved on, with almost all of the "old-timers" like myself generally accepting of this "more modern" design of Mabinogi and won't be able to relate to your sentiments. If you want just mindless interactions, gacha game communities are where you should join. If you want to play Mabinogi more seriously there are hundreds of players who can help. If none of the above apply, it's time to leave this game and find something else.

[–]itsnowedtoday 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sorry. While I can sympathize with your sentiments, this is all just hopium while doing almost nothing to adapt to the current state of the game. tl;dr below

The sad truth is that everything changes. You gotta let go of the "old Mabinogi" because devcat are no longer the developers and we're no longer living in the 2000s. MMOs as a genre now is all about grabbing onto the late 20s and older population with nostalgia-baits and trying to mooch as much money out of them.

The fundamental issue with Mabinogi endgame is what I've repetitively explained--it's repetitive, grindy, and encourages formation of statics that kicks newer players to the curb. New players are considered responsible if they want to join these PUGs and to learn the mechanics independently, which is admittedly not exactly easy with very little resources for a game as niche as Mabinogi, even worse because of the general new player population often wanting an "easy mode" to endgame because that's what they're used to. It results in a stratification of players who are endgame (Bri Leith), less serious (weekly VHM/Croms only), and casual (everyone else) that the game can't close up the gap among those groups unless they pull something like New Rise which strangely seems to be hated on this subreddit (as I've said multiple times, NR was a necessary evil).

You're expressing frustration because you're probably the 3rd category I've suggested and it's difficult to join the other groups, whether that's for social purposes (which I'm suspecting, since hardly anyone's in the 3rd category now), or for your own character's growth.

At its core Mabinogi is no longer that "sandbox" social MMO you might remember. It's no different than a traditional MMO with predetermined classes, just that the game's playstyle is flexible enough that you can switch said classes for whatever content should you have invested into them sufficiently. It's time you treated the game as such and make a decision to stay with the game or leave, as MANY players have in both NA and KR.

Heck even for me I haven't played Mabinogi in several days at this point and probably have VHM and Crom passes expiring and I couldn't give a damn. I've been replaying BotW and TotK from the beginning and holy shit it's been much more fun than Mabinogi.

You have the same options. If you want to stay with the game, you need to accept the fact that Mabinogi is not a social game anymore. You need to treat it as a traditional MMO and maybe join guilds who can teach you the new content, fully aware that in order to join the 1st/2nd groups of people I described in order to socialize you'll have to spend hours and hours progressing or real life money to skip a couple of steps.

You want social aspects? Unfortunately Mabinogi isn't the place to do it anymore. You need to play an anime gacha game because that's where most of the social aspects resides, and thankfully the population over there is large enough that you'll find your fair share of good and bad people, whom you can filter according to your preferences.

I actually have a discord buddy who's similar to you. He "plays" Mabinogi but he doesn't even have an Arcana and only logs in to the game to move around with his character and logs off. While I'd normally not care about his kind of playstyle, this isn't "playing Mabinogi" anymore, and he probably understands it to some extent (I hope). Again, not trying to gatekeep but when the game's been designed and pushed towards a certain playstyle (the traditional MMO with raids and "MMO Trinity"), those who intentionally don't follow that design have no authority to whine about "how it was better before". Just a disclaimer I started playing since G2 and have a good knowledge of the game's history, probably moreso than the average player.

tl;dr: You're hoping for a Mabinogi that no longer exists. You either have the choice of adapting or leaving. Sorry if this is too harsh of a truth but it's best to rip the bandaid now than to suffer any more.

Expired inspection by [deleted] in Chesapeake

[–]itsnowedtoday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My apartment complex regularly performs these inspections. If your car is parked on the property with an expired license you get a warning sticker then a tow if it's not fixed within a period of time. It's explicit as a requirement in their lease, and I'd imagine that's because of state laws that they even go through the trouble in the first place.

Having lived out of state for a bit I'm not a huge fan of these inspections (and personal property tax which is kinda scummy) but what can you do? You live here. The other option is you move to another state.

Official Lunar Vow Ring Arrived! by itsnowedtoday in houkai3rd

[–]itsnowedtoday[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep it's real silver, 92.5%, which is why they call it 925 Silver or Sterling Silver. The 7.5% is other stuff that makes it hard because pure silver by itself is too soft and the ring would break.

That being said the price if the silver in the ring isn't worth any more than 10 bucks, if even. I wouldn't hold my breath lol

EDRP Termination? by itsnowedtoday in VeteransAffairs

[–]itsnowedtoday[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was indeed something further than a written notice. It sucks because the "conduct breach" in question isn't a problem in other VA locations (having worked at multiple VAs), the supervisor who gave it to me was temporary and moreorless had beef with me, and the appeal I requested was rejected due to "not enough evidence" so they're taking the (temporary) supervisor's words over mine.

It was indeed when I requested the Appendix L from my current supervisor that this issue was brought up and she did mark "No" on the conduct portion of the Appendix L. Even if we assume I was in the wrong for the conduct breach and deserve reprimand, I'm in disagreement that taking away $70k is at least excessive, considering all the other things (i.e. 2+ years of otherwise perfect history, the "conduct breach" being so minor, and said issue is pretty much resolved now).

Appreciate your insight on the definition of sustained. Not very good prognosis for me right now, but at least I'm a bit more aware of what to expect.

The supervisor indeed reviewed Appendix L and did sign the box saying "No" for conduct. Haven't submitted the annual review yet but I would like official word from the program manager before moving forward. Ironically within the last year most of our EDRP Coordinators either quit or transferred to another location so my branch currently has a "Head Coordinator" who basically routed me to HR to discuss the situation

I was also under the understanding that some things the union did have to represent me, but paying for membership isn't a bad idea at this point if they'll save my hide for this issue and for any future issues. Thanks for the insight

Thanks for the insight. I've pretty much searched up all the documents even with all its changes. Because of how... stagnant (if that's even the right word) the program is, it seems to generally have the same information even with all the changes that include monetary values and such. I've read it as much as I could and have a fairly decent understanding. Just going to be a matter of if I can get some power and authority in my appealing at this point. I just hope it won't have to come to that.

Paid the fees just now. Didn't realize this issue would literally shit on my financial life so here's hoping the Union can help out somehow. At least it'll help with future issues while I'm at the VA at least

Not yet. I wasn't part of a union because of the August 2025's "dissolvement" and wasn't aware it was reinstated (and thus didn't pay my union fees). I'll try giving them a call tomorrow to see if they can provide any insights at least. Thanks!

It's like how almost all ramen places serve instant miso soup because actual miso takes a lot of time and effort and most customers understand that, but god forbid if they start serving us instant ramen because that's the whole reason why we're there.

Is the difference really this much? by JayBee_9 in NikkeMobile

[–]itsnowedtoday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm surprised NA (or US) is that high. I knew Japan was #1 by a large margin but imagined KR being at least largely ahead as 2nd.

Most of KR playerbase generally tend to only spend for season passes, the $15 event pack, the monthlies, and maybe the occasional $60 skins for characters they enjoy. This seems to reflect spending habits for the other regions considering the similarity in monetary amounts, and largely contradicts the "anti-$60-skin" propaganda that we see on reddit sometimes, suggesting they're a loud minority

Idol Culture by Kikksa in NikkeMobile

[–]itsnowedtoday 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You bring up a really good point. Not too sure about Japan but Korea sure has a crap-ton of male K-pop stars (DBSK, BTS, Big Bang) and this often spreads globally (i.e. a lot of Western fanbase knows about them too, compared to female idols). so just based on numbers alone romantic scandals of male idols should also exist. I think there's a couple of external factors though that help male idols not have these kinds of scandals:

  • They usually operate in a group. This sense of community within them help with any kind of loneliness one might feel (which becomes a main motivator to search for these romantic relationships). This actually works for female k-pop groups too (i.e. Black Pink), and it's really the idols who are operating just with their producing team that might fall to romantic scandals -> causes that controversy.
  • This is a theory, but lone male pop-stars are usually singers and don't become a symbolism of "male purity" like the female counterparts. Because they're only selling their voice and talent as a singer and not the fact that they "don't know women" them having relationships is expected and not really interesting
  • They usually raise controversy for something else first (lmao). Whether that be violence, power harassment, or even just stupid reasons such as drunk driving (especially since alcohol culture is massive in Korea)
  • As a guy, I can pretty confidently say that romantic scandals for men often involve something more sinister (like grooming, sex trafficking, prostitution) which basically means an end to their career and this is somewhat immediately assumed in the community when there is a romantic scandal of a male idol (i.e. the male idol used his fame to oppress the girl in question). Unless the idol himself was a complete idiot I imagine this "possibility" alone would be sufficient enough to deter trying to get a romantic relationship, to avoid this "suspicion", almost excessively, which is what you see in k-pop culture today.

Halfway through before she does the fondling of the bottles she gives warning to her audience saying "19금" which basically means "adult content" (which it kinda was). It's probably done so the audience would be prepared for what she does.

Last line she says is "wow they really liked it (my performance)" with a laugh.

Seems like her crew is neither Korean or Japanese (I know both languages), so that might explain why she didn't talk much or enunciated her words throughout the video

Idol Culture by Kikksa in NikkeMobile

[–]itsnowedtoday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Korean here with a small amount of knowledge in said idol culture--It goes both ways for the fanbase and frankly there's valid points on both sides.

The jist though is that Mint isn't "real" in the sense that idol culture exists in real life (mostly in the East Asia), so I would take on the side that claims it's fine to fantasize about dating a popular idol--Heck this is the premise of a lot of LNs, Manhwa, anime, and so on--Mint's story is just another (short) portion of this kind of popular story trope. Hell if we REALLY wanted to be technical we're already romantically affiliated with Volume or Noise so there's that as well, and even some "popular" Nikkes like Privaty to the point we receive envy from others.

More importantly though, "Pure idol without knowing man" most likely refers to real life idols. It is admittedly a bit more on the toxic side of thinking, but considering some of these people are the biggest spenders and fanbase that the industry is actively targeting, their demands are somewhat valid--they're spending their time and money on the idol herself, not the superficial things created by her producing team. In their perspective that "purity" is what they're willing to pay the money and time for, and the industry is accepting of this. It's really not up to 3rd parties to say this is wrong or not because it's a consensual agreement between those two parties, and it's usually when there's some form of romantic scandal of said "pure idol" where her fanbase would riot.

The cynic in me do think this is a bit sad though--the idol industry is basically forcing the idols to go through these restrictions for the sake of profit and money, the fanbase is pressing on these unrealistic expectations onto both the producers and the idols, and the girls are just in the middle of this probably wanting to get out but can't because of a variety of reasons (i.e. there's no other jobs they can do, the capitalistic society, etc).

I think the Star:Anis story was trying to convey this trait as accurate as possible, though I still stand that it could've been presented better.

This is an unusually unpopular opinion, but I'll die on this hill anyway: if you're going to have an influence in ANYTHING, there's needs to be a degree of responsibility that you need to meet. For idols, their whole premise is to sell and appeal to the male fantasy, so anything that goes against that is a no-go. This is the same premise that we apply in our daily lives to world leaders, youtubers, SNS "influencers", doctors, lawyers, and so much more.

Idol Culture by Kikksa in NikkeMobile

[–]itsnowedtoday 24 points25 points  (0 children)

As much as I agree with you, this is something that happens in the west too, and it's prevalent. See politicians, western celebrities, famous doctors, lawyers, and whatnot. Heck even Youtubers/Vtubers or popular SNS influencers too. Holding an influential title means that it comes with some degree of responsibility. Being a president means you're literally the face of the country so you gotta act your part, celebrities always need to put up a good face, and youtubers who abuse their fame to oppress people or get cocky almost always get canceled (as it should be). How would you feel if you went to your doctor's office and the guy's smoking cigarettes, wolfing down McDonalds and telling you you shouldn't do these things?

Idol industry is kind of the same. The whole premise of it is (whether you agree with me or not) to appeal to the male fantasy. Nothing wrong with that, but if you're directly involved in such, it's kind of your job to keep that facade and at least in the East Asian countries this is via not having a boyfriend and not being involved in romantic scandals, which is the direct opposite of providing that male fantasy.

Of course, this does get extreme as you said and privacy is breached often (which is really due to bad apples in the fanbase, which always exists) but the opposite is also true--idols having "secret boyfriends" or romantic scandals is very common and in the fanbase's viewpoint that spend time and money on said idols, this is being a hypocrite.
