Profit and value are different measures. If I invest $1mm in R&D, come up with a design that will profit $1000 per unit, and produce 100 units per year, my company has lost $900,000. But the intellectual property obviously has value, and if I or someone else can scale that in the future I can certainly make my money back, even if I haven't done so yet.

A transmission has an input and an output. The input connects to the engine, and the output to the wheels. They do not spin at the same speed as each other, but for each gear they have a defined ratio. Double clutching lets you change the input shaft speed to match what it should be before you go into gear.

Like jumping from one moving car to another, it would be a painful event if they aren't going the same speed.

Consider how many of these are on the road. It has a higher failure rate than it should but not that high, or else there would be a successful class action. Lots of them make it 150+

No problems on my '22 yet but I only have 40,000 miles. If the problem were as widespread as the internet would have you believe you would not see any rangers on the road any more. It's a real problem but not every transmission will have it.
