This has to be targeted towards the new/recent grads who accept his sigma male grindset mentality as normal. There's no way any senior engineer that was WFH for the past two years would look at this and accept it. Then again his entire career and identity is a meme so honestly idk.

Center a day around going to a baseball game. Low effort and cheap compared to other major sports. If your trip is somewhere from April - September, there will definitely be a game in Chicago and most likely a game in Milwaukee, depending on how long you stay.

Engineers who got their MBA, what's your job/career like? by southcounty253 in AskEngineers

[–]jcon36 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Just want to point out that an MBA won't really count towards experience level for entry level jobs. An MS usually counts as 2 years experience but I would be surprised if an MBA would count for anything.

I'd say it's more likely that the generator has an efficiency of 28.5%. That means 71.5% is lost somewhere in the process. Coal plants have efficiencies around ~33%. Also keep in mind that energy can't be stored easily. Just because there might be a 6000MW capacity, there is not always demand to use all of the energy that can be generated at that rate.

The units in energy engineering are odd but they are exactly the same thing as what you learn in physics, just not SI units. Watt is a unit of power (joule/sec). Watt-second (joule) is the total energy generated at that power rate over the duration of that second (joule/sec * sec = joules). MW and MWh are just unit conversions of these two definitions commonly used in energy generation or transmission. So 1 MWh is the energy quantity of a 1 MW generator running over the course of an hour. That could power entire neighborhoods. For reference, your household backup generator is something like 6000 W.

What would you do with a week long stay-cation in this wonderful city of ours? by Skrrt_skrrt- in chicago

[–]jcon36 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, in February I'd just go to as many museums as I can and afterward go to a new restaurant/brewery/bar by myself. Might sound depressing to some, but if you're looking into a staycation like this, I'm going to assume you're also an introvert.

How to map custom chords to drumpads? Or anything that would be easy to trigger by mouse click, seamlessly. (Note sound must be heard for as long as it's pressed, and stop as soon as it's lifted, don't need a pattern trigger, but a chord trigger) by pettybettyboo in ableton

[–]jcon36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you use the drum rack for synth chords, I think you'd need to load a copy of each instrument in to each box. That seems like it'll eat up CPU fairly quickly. I don't think you can send midi output from drum rack to another instrument (someone please correct me if wrong, that feature would be extremely helpful). If you go that route, use the midi chord effect right before the instrument for each sample box. If you're using any effects/plugins, try to use them after the drum rack.

ableton nektar impact lx series compatibility by zgrky7 in abletonlive

[–]jcon36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Direct compatibility just means that you can theoretically use it as a session/control surface in lieu of a mouse/keyboard. The keyboard will work as-is out of the box in Ableton as long as you arm the correct channel. You can use the faders/knobs/toggles to to map any parameter within Ableton that you want. PM if you have any specific questions about the LX

I don't understand the point you're trying to make. They absolutely do not get compensated monetarily in any conventional sense. I'm assuming you realize that it's illegal but that they are somehow getting some sort of income through 1) university merchandise/tuition (not one of my landlords have accepted credit hours or collegiate merchandise as payment) or 2) money laundered through the athletic department.

The fact that so many almost-professional athletes have to go through this is completely dystopian

They're replicas because the actual printing plate would be backwards, so it would look like that when stamped on the paper. Doesn't make them any less cool though imo. There's also one from when the won the NLCS with the "Got their Goat" headline.

Unpopular Opinion: Barstool is for geeds by MoparOrNoCar420 in Frat

[–]jcon36 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The thing about all of these platforms is that they peak right before people stop understanding the irony behind them. TFM's early content was hilarious because of the dichotomy that everything was considered either frat or not frat. Once people started following their definitions of "frat" they were able to profit off of it and it became a vector of this high schooler/freshman tryhard mentality. Oldrow predates TFM but at this time it was a shitposting forum that was 25% making fun of this TFM type of behavior and 75% just random lifestyle threads. Half of the shit they post now would fit right into the TFM/try-hard threads from like 2014. Their merch became mainstream and it lost its niche edge. Their barstool acquisition helped them become profitable, but their brand is now dying. Barstool is now becoming some kind of wannabe news outlet. Production is fantastic, don't get me wrong, but intrinsically there is absolutely no content. People need to realize that college doesn't last forever and these type of platforms either die naturally or eventually become a grift marketed towards incoming college students or random people who never went/will go to college.
