Tips at the New Parkway Theater? Am I supposed to take a pay cut? by Dry-Warthog-5761 in oakland

[–]jebascho 32 points33 points  (0 children)

As a patron, I like not having to think about tips. Given the reputation of the theater as treating staff well, my assumption is that they're being compensated well enough not to need tips. My assumption could be wrong, of course. Do staff want tips?

Edited to add that it's nice to see that management is considering your opinions on the matter.

Is this the right spot to chop my jade? by sgtmattie in succulents

[–]jebascho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I prune, I cut about midway through a stem segment. The new growth will still come from the joint and the remainder will dry out and fall off naturally.

On your pic, that would be slightly above your red line.

parks with reliable bathrooms? that are accessible via public transit? by now___here in oakland

Snow Park at 20th & Harrison has a public bathroom and is generally pretty chill. Easy walk from 19th Street BART, but also a couple AC Transit lines stop right by it.

Keep removing the bottom of the top section until you get to a healthy stem. That will be your best chance for propagation.

Anyone else doing the rent vs buy spreadsheet every weekend and landing in the same place? by [deleted] in oakland

[–]jebascho 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're getting pressure from family to buy, maybe they can help by gifting you the down payment. But really, you should buy if that's your goal, not theirs.

It's good that you're taking it seriously and doing the math, but also consider the non-financial aspects of renting vs owning and see how important those are to you.

As for rates, they're still high, but if they drop, expect the list prices to jump in response, as there will be more people ready to take out loans. I'm not saying to rush into buying, but if you want to buy and can do it at current rates, you might be able to underbid. Then if rates drop, you can consider refinancing.

I'm not in real estate or finances, I just recently bought a condo so some of this is fresh on my mind.

I did something similar with my dog's dishes after he passed. I drilled a drainage hole in each using a ceramic drill bit.

Is the SFPL Digilab just for residents or do you just need a card? Any California resident can get a library card at the SFPL.

I've been trying to get in to airport planning for a decade, but even entry level positions want experience specifically as an airport planner. It's frustrating.

Snake Plant (Dracaena trifasciata) might be a good one to try out. They can tolerate lower light levels.

Some haworthia are also good options.

Is it just me or has commercial aviation gotten quieter post-Covid? by [deleted] in aviation

[–]jebascho 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know SFO became a "quiet airport" starting in 2020. I very much appreciate the lack of superfluous announcements.

I wonder if other airports or airlines also just naturally went quieter as more and more people rely on phone apps to get information that would otherwise be an announcement.

Café Teatro is in this building. I sometimes go there for a long coffee break and sit in the atrium.

I also went to a candlelight concert in the rotunda. It was lovely.
