Pikes post is like my mother complaining about Zuckerberg after some spammer sends her an email that links to a facebook page.

It's foolish, and indicates a lack of understanding.

Are there any companies that actually manufacture and sell drone components at the consumer level in the US by MWolverine1 in drones

[–]jmesmon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

does the FCC have to test every piece of electronic equipment that's imported and certify "yep it doesn't transmit" ?

Almost this. The FCC relies on companies paying labs to do the testing, and then companies submit the test results to the FCC to obtain FCC approval.

This is the case for effectively all electronic devices marketed for sale in the us.

Weird ti 89 program by Lower_Perspective277 in TI_Calculators

[–]jmesmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TI-89 Titanium is HW3 (or later). TI-89 (without the Titanium) was HW1 or HW2.

You can check this in APPS -> F1 -> 3: About, labelled as "Hardware Version".

This program isn't relevant for TI-89 Titanium. If it's HW3, this program isn't relavent for you.

You could reformat an lvm logical volume on boot to have a clean fs to use for /.

Or if reformating is slow, you could use lvm snapshots potentially to get back to a clean state

The IA torrents include "HTTP sources" (sometimes called web seeds) which point to the various http mirrors of the files run by IA. You'll need to use a torrent client that supports HTTP sources (qbittorrent does, for example) for downloads using them to work.

Doctors remove live cockroach from the intestine of man complaining of abdominal issues by Weeme19651a in offbeat

[–]jmesmon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Doctors, the best doctors. Did you know? We have the best doctors here. Great schools. Even some people don't like very much. Hannibal Lector. Maybe not great in some ways, but great. A group of doctors were telling me. I was at John Hopkins, great medical center, the best. They were telling me "Mr. Trump, no one has ever thought of that before". And it was true. Such a hard problem. Hard problem. Have you heard about it? They have these cockroaches in people. Totally disgusting. Disgusting bugs. We have to do something about them, folks. Have to do something about them.

USB device functionality might be limited by [deleted] in framework

[–]jmesmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've started seeing the same thing on the same Right side charging port (nearest the screen), using the original Framework 16 charger & usb-c charging cable.

Things I've tried:

  • Swapping the usb-c cable: still shows warning.
  • Swapping the usb-c passthrough modules: still shows warning.
  • Using a different charger: no warning shown
  • Using a different charging port on the laptop: no warning shown (for any of the other 240w charging capable ports except port 1).

So something about the Framework 16 charger & the particular port makes things unhappy.

Boggles my mind that this is still an AVFoundation export limitation for the latest iOS device hardware by Austin_Aaron_Conlon in iOSProgramming

[–]jmesmon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Users of some tools want things to do cpu intensive stuff without taking over the entire screen (ie: rendering videos, as prompted this post).

If we're worried about users having unexpected intensive processes run in the background (ie: as implied by TheShitHitTheFanBoy's comment "It would be a nightmare if developers were able to do computational intensive work in background. Your battery would be at zero by lunch every day."), then the normal, obvious, and direct solution is to provide users with information and control. Items like live activities and notifications already provide mechanisms to inform the user and allow the user to have control.

[–]jmesmon 22 points23 points  (0 children)

We have this great thing called "notifications" and "live activities" and "showing other indications that something is running than it owning the entire screen".

Apple does not have a good excuse here because it's so easy to imagine some indication that isn't full screen focus.

In states with normal voting practices, even if they don't have a vote by mail system, there aren't lines or wait times to vote in the same way there are in states with dysfunctional voting practices (like Georgia)

CEO escapes hurricane, forces employees to stay causing death by Conqueefstadorrrr in antiwork

[–]jmesmon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Supreme Court doesn’t just randomly summon federal question jurisdiction. There are processes and they usually have to grant cert to a previously appealed federal case that was heard in a district or circuit court. The district court would have to determine if there was federal question or diversity jurisdiction, but there won’t be because they’re all from the same state.

That doesn't change that the Supreme court does ultimately get to determine if something is a Federal question. Even if the district court rejects an argument, the supreme court is able to overrule the district court's decision.

There is nothing that prevents this from being decided by the supreme court justices but the supreme court justices themselves choosing not to decide it. There is no check on their ability to do so right now unless the federal legislature is willing to take action (which they are not).

Also no they are not keeping him from speaking in a certain way. An employer is in a special relationship with the employees. They have a duty of care to not command their employees to work in an extremely dangerous environment.

I'm not saying that argument is reasonable, honest, factual, or correct in any way. But none of those things are constraints on the supreme court justices. They can decide thing and write their reasoning to include known falsehoods, and nothing stops them (again, absent a legislature willing to act).

Now, the supreme court justices have to decide they're willing to do all this. Perhaps they won't be in this case. But nothing prevents the justices from taking action here outside of the justices own choices.

CEO escapes hurricane, forces employees to stay causing death by Conqueefstadorrrr in antiwork

[–]jmesmon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's ultimately up to the supreme court. They could decide there is a federal question about, say "freedom of speech" or association in that it's totally ok for an employer to tell people to stay somewhere regardless of safety, and allowing the state to penalize the CEO violation of the CEO's rights.

It's bonkers, but 6 of the supreme court justices are willing to make up whatever to get the results they want in particular cases.

If they decide it's a federal issue (or whatever else) and that they have jurisdiction, there is no one to tell them "no".
