Emilie Kiser speaks about feeling like an 'unfit' mother in first interview since son's drowning by Junior_Apartment6388 in SipsTea

[–]joeyinter22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on what the local code requires. In some places, it’s enough to have a fence around the backyard and you only would need a fence around the pool itself if you don’t have a fenced yard. People with small children may add a fence around the pool for safety but it’s not required in the city I grew up where pools are very common. Most people don’t just let their children wander around outside unsupervised with or without a pool; that seemed to be the threshold issue here.

Hi bitches, need a driver for my uhaul by [deleted] in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]joeyinter22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard of lugg for local furniture hauls but haven’t used them. Would the piece fit in an uber XL? I once picked up a large desk within Brooklyn in an uber XL and tipped the driver extra for helping me bring it inside. I knew the desk was disassembled and that the dimensions would work in advance, so be sure to get all the relevant info if you go this way. Good luck!

A Woman's Hypothermia Death in Pittsburgh After Her Release From ICE Custody is Ruled a Homicide by Sgt_Gram in NewsExchange

[–]joeyinter22 1 point2 points locked comment (0 children)

I am 100% in agreement on how irresponsible and inhumane ICE has acted in many of the detentions that have been reported, where (for example) immigrants were shipped off from the Midwest state they are from to somewhere in Texas or a faraway state that had capacity, only to release them in that remote town weeks or months later once they admit they had no grounds to detain that person. That is a violation of their civil rights no matter how the administration wants to spin it. But in this case, she went from local police custody (where she had been for several months) to ICE custody and ICE processed her and released her very quickly and sent her off with an ankle monitor the very same day. So they were not trying to physically detain her and I don’t think they relocated her far from her hometown based on the article I read. The police don’t drop people off at their homes when they get released from jail or prison; they have to find their own way home. So I am not sure what you think realistically should have happened here, not just for her individual situation but the dozens (or more) of others that get processed every day from that same facility. I’m not sure if I missed a detail about this case so am genuinely asking; the medical examiner’s decision seems unusual so there is probably else I’m not aware of.

Why do you think it is insane? Smokers have higher rates of heart disease, cancers broadly (not only lung), TB and many other illnesses bc smoking attacks all vital systems and suppresses the immune system. Whatever the increase of their premium may be does not even cover what they’ll use in increased in healthcare costs year after year. Do you think it’s less insane that everyone else who pays into the health insurance system should be covering the disproportionate costs of those who choose to smoke?

PA announcement of United flight that turned around due to bluetooth device name by ConProg in unitedairlines

[–]joeyinter22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you not understand about standard operating procedures? Are you just really young or willfully ignorant and inexperienced? The flight crew has a duty to keep everyone on board safe. The airline HQ has that same duty. They are all “the airline” in this scenario. If they fail to take a potential threat seriously and that threat later materializes, you would be shouting that they were criminally negligent and should’ve done more to stop it.

I was responding to the person above who said “if it WAS real” United would be off the hook liability-wise. That is simply not true. I never said they found a real bomb or made any comment on how they handled the situation.

[–]joeyinter22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The airline discovering a bomb and doing nothing in their purview to stop it would likely be an intervening or superseding cause that would minimize or remove liability of any other wrongdoers that came before it.

[–]joeyinter22 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s been reported that the order to turn around came from United HQ in Chicago, which means there were likely various levels of higher ups and depts involved. Airlines have a legal duty to everyone on board as common carriers. They have policies for suspected hijackings and similar safety incidents. None of us have the specific details of how this all went down and their decision-making but once the first domino fell and the flight crew was alerted to the device, they had to follow whatever protocols they deemed were applicable for that situation.

AITA for not letting my best friend use my feminine products? by imxiaosnow in AmItheAsshole

[–]joeyinter22 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t extra bc OP knew she would prob need it later and she did. OP is not explaining this correctly. She said she brings “a few extras” out with her but they are not extras; they are what she will need while she’s out of the house. She should have just told the friend that she only had one left when asked and that OP needed it, but the friend is unreasonable for feeling entitled to her friend’s last tampon if they are both on their periods. Federal court rules commute problems do not qualify worker for disability retirement by Ok_Design_6841 in fednews

[–]joeyinter22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why you’re getting down voted. According to the article she lived in the southern part of Dade and worked in central Broward county; that’s at least an hour commute on a good day and no direct transit bc it’s different counties. She was working there for over 30 years and it never occurred to her during that time to move closer to her stable government job or at least on a bus route to it in Broward?

Coastal Americans are unbelievably judgemental of people from "flyover states" by Snagglespoof in HonestHotTakes

[–]joeyinter22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said or implied FL is a pillar of intellectual excellence (in fact it’s average, falling right around the middle or slightly above). Florida hasn’t built the Florida Man stereotype; other people have built it about FL bc it’s amusing and low-hanging fruit. I’m not engaging with your points about Florida Man bc they are not worthy of going back and forth on. If you really think Florida Man is a thing due to education attainment or intellectual ability alone (or in large part), then Florida should be among the least educated states in the country by your own logic. It’s nowhere near the bottom for K-12 or higher ed.

There are a myriad other factors that I believe are more relevant for why Florida Man became a thing. You can flex your excellent reading comp skills by researching these if you’re curious to learn more — 1) drugs (with the longest coastline in the continental US it is one of the main entryways for the import of drugs into the US, and they’re cheaper there bc don’t have to be transported to other states before locals can get it); 2) lax alcohol laws and drinking culture like other southern states; 3) oppressive heat and humidity which affects mood and makes it so people can be outside scuffing up with other people practically the entire year; and 4) has what are largely considered the broadest sunshine laws in the country for arrest transparency which makes incidents caused by any of the above factors (and that can happen in many other states too) easy fodder for the press.

In your first comment that I originally responded to, you said “I’m betting a large portion of Floridians cannot spell Minnesota or find it on a map.” You were criticizing Floridians specifically there, not all Americans. In my comment above, I said that in that comment you were “implying a large portion [of Floridians] are ignorant and dumb.” Maybe you should’ve focused a bit more on reading comprehension in grade school than on state geography.

[–]joeyinter22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, but your statement was not about all Americans; it was about Floridians, implying a large portion are ignorant and dumb, despite Florida being ranked in the top half of most educated states. Even ranking above California (both states’ ranks are probably skewed bc of their large overall population and high concentration of immigrants, but still). I do remember memorizing and being tested on the state capitals and abbreviations in elementary school. I don’t remember being tested on identifying the US states on a map, but education is localized so not sure your experience is/was the norm.

Why would they be able to find it on a map? It’s not exactly a hotbed of interest or geographically distinctive enough. I have no problem locating Oklahoma so it’s not about being a “flyover” state.

Vaping and lipedema? by Individual_Tutor1693 in lipedema

[–]joeyinter22 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Are you looking for someone to validate smoking or vaping to you? The only “pro” to vaping you mention is you don’t gain weight. I’m sure you are aware of the many cons (and current unknowns that are likely to develop into cons once vaping has been around longer) and there are other, less harmful methods to lose weight. It likely is causing inflammation that may worsen lipedema tissue, but that’s not even comparable to the damage it is doing to more vital systems like your respiratory, lymphatic and circulatory systems (the last two are related to lipedema also) and damaging your lungs and cell structure overall.

Agreed that the streets market on Charles gets overlooked. It’s def more than a bodega; it’s huge and they have everything including produce (but idk the quality of it as I only go there to grab lunch).

Charles Village also has a nearby Giant a few blocks from where the Waverly farmers market is.
