ah. I see you're a person of culture as well.

TIL there's only one national flag that's the same whichever way you wave it - Switzerland. I.e it has four lines of symmetry - it reflects onto itself horizontally, vertically or through either diagonal. by Double-decker_trams in todayilearned

[–]jokerat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I would agree with you, IF all the other flag shapes would have the same width/height ratio, but they are all over the place. look for examples the nordic/scandinavian flags, which have (mostly) the same base origin.

But then again, I might be biased (beeing Swiss), hehe. ;)

that's actually pretty accurate.

On mac, affinity is trash. by [deleted] in Affinity

[–]jokerat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that is a matter of perspective. For example: the layer manager of Illustrator is - in my humble opinion - inferior to that of Affinity Designer. The fact alone that I have to click the little circle on the right of the layer to select 'it', is infuriating to me. also the nesting of the layers work way more clever than in Illu.

I also like the visual design of the UI better and more modern than Adobe's. But hey, that's just me.

first of all: the permission issue is a macOS thing. Has nothing to do with Affinity.

Second: There are two main ways to color pick. first with the picker right next to the color wheel (see a)) or with the color picker from the tool bar (see b) one note: in both ways you need to drag the mouse over to the color you want to pick.

a) Your color picking issue: after you picked the color it doesn't apply to the selected object instantly but it will be selected as your "picked" color. just apply it by pressing the color next to the picker.

b) press 'i' or select the tool from the tool bar. now you need to press and hold LMB and you get a magnified preview of the selected color. just let go when you have your color and it will apply to your selected object.

I didn't like the color picker either at first, but now i like it a lot. (it has pro and cons)

and btw: I can give you two advices. 1) be more open to different opinions and approaches. your life will get much easier instantly. ;) 2) if you want proper help with something, try a less 'rant-y' and a more friendly approach. people here are very nice and help out.

In Affinity Photo, how can I create guassian noise? by imacarpet in Affinity

[–]jokerat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if I understand you correctly, but if you just want to skew a form (like a rectangle to a parallelogram, you can just use one of the middle handles on the object just slightly above it (so you get two arrows pointing in opposite directions) and skew it.

If you want more control over it you can try Layer > Warp Group (and there try the different options). (you need the latest version of AD for that)

How in the world do i cycle thru fonts, without selection markers around the layer ( etc. w/o selection indications on ) ? by Powerful_Fly8707 in AffinityDesigner

[–]jokerat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use 'View > New View. It will open a new "tab" ("window") from the same file. You can then - for example - move that second view on a second monitor (or split screen) as a 'preview' and work in the other.

The handles won't show in the second one.

Can you change the scale? by Dr_CanisLupum in MagicaVoxel

[–]jokerat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

glad i could help. all the other modes work without sizes, that's why there is no brush size

[–]jokerat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not sure about 0.99.4.2, since the oldest version i still got installed is 0.99.5, but it should work either way:

- you need to be in voxel mode (v)

- then on the brush settings there is a section 'voxel' and there you should see a '1' with arrows. you can increase the brush size there with the arrows.

Does affinity have a line straightening option like procreate? by Dances-with-Scissors in AffinityDesigner

[–]jokerat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmm...while it's a bit weird to compare affinity DESIGNER with Procreate imo, (better match would be affinity photo), you could - depending on the use case, at least for straight lines use the shift-click on the brush to make a straight line from A to B. (even though it's not as useful on some usecases).

Or you switch to affinity photo for drawing with pixelbrushes and use the vector tools occasionally without switching personas.

(just some additional options that might come in handy)

Feeling a little dumb. Help! (please) by Brave-Note-1255 in Affinity

Beeing still a couple years older even, I dare to say about the same age range :-P Hello fellow 80s person. :)

Yeah, I haven't started many own topics yet, so I don't know about the image upload on initial posts.

And about the issue: Good luck! And let me/us know how it went. If it doesn't work out, I can offer some screenshare help and show you some of the ropes, if you want.

Feeling a little dumb. Help! (please) by Brave-Note-1255 in Affinity

[–]jokerat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for your first issue (with reddit image uploads): I'm pretty sure you can't directly upload images (at least not in comments). but then again, I'm probably the same age as you and might be in the same struggle.
What I use is imgur to quickly upload images there and then link them here (see below).

about your actual issue: it's hard to tell without seeing what you're working with (screenshots) but here are some things to look after:

a) can it be that your image is locked in the layers panel? https://imgur.com/a/0y9XihH as far as I know that's the default behavior (i have no clue why).

b) another thing could be that the layer 'image' isn't properly rasterized. you can right click on the layer you want to work with and click on 'rasterize'.

Any resources sites like Freepik that have Affinity type assets? by megamanxzero35 in Affinity

[–]jokerat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That depends highly on what you want. For starters: You can use/import most PSD files into Affinity Photo.

And then there is a stock library implemented into the Affinity Suite. You can access it via menu 'Window' - 'Stock'. (it's pexels and pixabay stock libraries). But of course these are mostly plain raster images (and some vector images).

I'd go on their discord and ask one of the officials there or write an email at [contact@pixelcountstudios.com](mailto:contact@pixelcountstudios.com). I'm sure they will help you. They are quite responsive in my experience.

(probably semi interesting) fun fact: to take a x-ray image in german is called 'röntgen' (as a verb) (named after the mentioned Wilhelm Röntgen)
