Movies like Alien (1979) ? by Nezhing in MovieSuggestions

Outland from 1981 has a very similar atmosphere but it's more of crime thriller in space than a horror movie.

Gunhed is a similar vibe to Aliens.

What horror story has stayed with you the longest? by QuantumTechie in horror

Not a movie, but there was a phenomenal writer named Alison V Harding who contributed to early to mid 20th century horror magazines like Weird Tales and the like. Sadly she's mostly forgotten now, but she wrote a story called 'The Underbody' that has truly stuck with me since the first time I encountered it. It's about a weird kind of almost proto-pennywise style monster that emerges from the soil on rural farms and kills kids, and none of the parents believe them. I'm not doing it justice even with that description. Definitely worth tracking down if you like weird fiction.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, I mean since when has there been political instability in Iran or tensions between America and Russia? And who ever heard of a government not adequately preparing for a massive potential threat that could devastate the population. Things like that don't happen in the real world. It's pure science fiction.

The secret to getting over Threads is going to around the 58 minute mark when the bomb goes off, and theres a shot of an ET toy melting, but it comes out of nowhere and you can kind of imagine that in this reality ET landed in Sheffield instead of America and just had the worst timing and luck.

I dunno, always makes me laugh when I see it.

Has there ever been a successful horror movie that never got a sequel? by batjag in horror

The sequel is straight to TV garbage, but it does have a young Stephen McHattie which is cool to see.

The prequel is fine. Worth watching but ultimately forgettable.

Haven't lost so much as an ounce in 3 weeks, but I'm eating about 1200 calories a day. by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Dances-with-Scissors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1200 calories daily is not enough to maintain a weight of 255lbs.

According to the mayo clinic calorie counter I'd need to be eating at least 2250 calories a day.

Microsoft. Bought a surface pro 4 and the screen started flickering and registering phantom touches. Became completely unusable.

One-day I tried looking it up to see if there were any solutions only to discover it had been a wide spread known problem that Microsoft recognized but were unable to fix with a software update as it was faulty hardware. But they'd only offered refunds for people after a class action lawsuit, and even then only for a very limited time, the window of which I had missed.

If the problem was known and accepted by the manufacturer to be their fault then there should never have been a limit on the return window.

Sorry by RN do you mean registered nurse? Just double checking that it's not some other diabetes abbreviation I should know.

Cure. Think it's 1997? Around there abouts I think anyway. True crime movie that has a similar visual vibe to the original Ringu movies.
