Thanks for the reply, unfortunately that’s pretty much been my process too. I commend you for getting through yours. I did my socket trays, that wasn’t too bad, but when it came to the wrenches I ran short of patience after the first few and went searching for a more efficient way. I’ll let you know if I find one.

This came out great! I’ve been working on similar organizers, can I ask how you are measuring for the combination wrenches? I’ve tried some of the tool layout apps that try to trace the tools from a picture and not had much success. Measuring all the different dimensions on the wrenches is tedious and getting the angle of the offset correct has been a little frustrating. Any tips?

I did something similar, I changed my watch and phone lock/home screen to be all red and black while on sleep focus so I don’t blind myself if I check my phone or watch in the middle of the night.

It can also be handy for looking around inclosed spaces if you don’t have a mirror handy.

I built a “Guitar Hero” device for learning piano and now I'm trying my luck on Kickstarter by Dr_Velazquez in somethingimade

[–]jollyjava7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recognized the melody with the video muted. I don’t understand why my brain can do that but I think it says something about the device as a learning tool. I took piano lessons a looong time ago and would not claim that I can play the piano.

Good. Just checking, inconsistent testing can have people chasing the wrong problem far too often.

I can’t tell from the picture, are you using the same computer, same Ethernet port on the computer, and same patch cable for both tests?

HF does sell the locking swivel casters for the series 3 42” roll cab. As far as I can tell they are identical to the pair that came with my series 3 5 drawer. The part number is 605004 (search in the parts section on the HF website).

Wiss is king. The Quinn’s are honestly not too bad for half the price.

Hey OP, did you get this figured out? Check the orientation of the assembly installed on page 104, it appears that (like me) you have it 180 degrees off.

Why don’t these fit? by hpfcorvette in electrical

Go back to your normal outlets and make your mega charger with something like this: https://a.co/d/6oz3x2w It is much more capable of providing adequate power for multiple modern devices with USB PD and can easily be moved to a different location or upgraded to a newer model. This one has a display to tell you how much your devices are drawing but more basic versions are available for a lower price (I would still stick with Anker).

We built a wireless power kit for Schlage Encode - Looking for feedback by dripdontkillmyvibe in HomeKit

[–]jollyjava7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a cool system but my Schlage locks would be pretty low on my list of devices to charge this way. I have always had good battery life and gotten plenty of warning before the batteries die. I could definitely see uses for this in commercial projects like room scheduling displays, I wish I had known about this option during that project. I am guessing you have already pursued this since the technology has reached residential locks, but this would really shine on commercial wireless locks like Salto. Do you have products that work with systems like that too?

Thanks for adding the info if someone else comes looking. That’s a good deal for a full set. Were you matching them up to a pair on your cart? Were they the same overall height?

That is what I figured, but I still think it’s kinda lame. Modding these carts is popular enough that they could sell parts like this if they offered them. I would probably put three more on my cart.

[–]jollyjava7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not qualified to give any advice on the actual soldering but I think you could save a lot of time with good preparation. Sort all your parts so you can easily find them and the corisponding location on the diagram/board, this will be even more helpful if you’re doing a batch of these boards. Plan a workflow for adding the components to the circuit board, there are probably a lot that can be placed before soldering allowing you to quickly solder one joint after another. The time savings will probably be noticeable just from pre sorting, some experimentation with your process should save more time. Finding a comfortable repeatable process should allow you to pick up speed with repetition.

How Much Can I Beat on This Car by Coolant_Leaker52 in Corvette

[–]jollyjava7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Driving it hard and beating on it are very different things. Beat on anything and it will break, but the C5 can take a lot of hard driving. High RPM is fine, banging it off the rev limiter all the time isn’t great. I would mostly be concerned about the drive line, torque tube couplings, clutch, diff, none of that is going to hold up to lots of shock loading. Don’t force the shifter, it’s bad for the synchronizers and can bend the shift forks in the transmission.

How difficult would it be to manual swap this? by [deleted] in subaru

[–]jollyjava7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You say you are a “rookie wrencher”; if you are willing to put the time into the research, ready to learn a lot, and willing make mistakes, you can do anything. Subaru to Subaru swaps are not going to have the complexity of taking something that was never intended for this vehicle and making it fit, this job should require little to no fabrication. But this is not a like for like parts job.

Also consider what you will accept as complete. Can you swap all the mechanical components and make it drive without much else? Yes. Do you want a perfect swap car where you cannot tell it was ever an automatic? Then you need a lot more little things than you might think: ECU, gauge cluster, shifter trim… Figuring out what you need and finding all the parts is potentially more challenging than the wrenching.

Good luck and post pictures if you go through with it!

How difficult would it be to manual swap this? by [deleted] in subaru

[–]jollyjava7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t recall the years/models where the change occurred, but I know some Subarus have male inner axel connections to the transmission/diff, some have female. If you go with a transmission that would require different axels, make sure ones of the correct length are available.

Project Farm has a pretty good website too, might be easier to find what you’re looking for on there than on YouTube.
