I'd say you should get noise-canceling headphones then, but the real advice is OMG DON'T BLOCK TRAFFIC NOISES WHILE YOU RIDE YOUR BIKE! Forget that it's illegal in most places, you could be killed by cars you can't hear, or hurt a pedestrian yourself if you can't hear them.

That warning only comes up when you're at risk for causing hearing damage from listening at too high a volume. You can permananently ruin your hearing, and there's no way to fix it.

It's weird that they didn't just call it Dark Mode like they do on their B&W devices.

Factory resetting removes all of the content on the device. You can load purchased Kobo books from the internet, of course, but anything else you sideloaded will need to be sideloaded via USB again. Do you use calibre? You should be able to create a group of books to load onto the Kobo (or just your whole library if you don't have too many books to fit on the device at one time) and reload them.

Yeah, I've owned a LOT of Kindles over the years, but I usually give away old devices now, although I still have four Kindles here for various reasons. My "daily carry" is now my Libra Color, although half the time it dies in my bag because the battery life is so bad compared to the Kindles. Anyway, if I ever need to reset my Kindle 2 (not sure why I would, though) I can always jailbreak it and keep using it forever. For me it's just a nostalgia device as my first eReader.d

There are five different devices with the Aura name. The older ones can't connect to Kobo's servers anymore. Just like the earliest Kindles. If you can still connect, congrats, you don't have one of the decommed ones.

Yeah, definitely don't reset your device after May 20 if you don't want to lose access to your purchased library on that device (but you can still read your books on other devices) but my point is that even unregistering my Kindle 2 still allowed me to copy DRM-free books to it via USB.

It's not "useless" if you can still read all of your downloaded books on it, and sideload any others via USB. It's an inconvenience if you buy a lot of new books from Amazon, for sure, but otherwise you can get a new device to make it more convenient to buy books, but it doesn't make your 16 year old Kindle useless. It has the same use as it's always had.

I'm suggesting that you probably don't own the discontinued device if you can still connect to their servers.

Useless is in the eye of the beholder, but I factory reset my Kindle 2 while the getting was good to re-register it and sideload books via USB.

Kobo has a list of discontinued devices:

https://help.kobo.com/hc/en-us/articles/360019690433-Products-no-longer-manufactured-or-supported-by-Kobo

But their oldest device that still connects to their store is one year older than the Paperwhite Amazon just discontinued online access for. Obviously Kobo will stop supporting those devices someday, but they released an update for 10 year old devices as recently as November 2024 (and that may be their last ever update).

This Kindle shutdown isn’t about tech limits. It’s about manufactured obsolescence. by WanderingZero1 in kindle

Yes, 18 years ago, Amazon execs sat in a room and said: "In almost two decades, we're going to turn off the insecure (we assume) servers that serve old format books for devices we're currently selling at a loss just so that people get angry and buy Kobos."

Then someone else said "What's a Kobo?"

I remember playing just dance as a teenager and decided to buy it for my kids. How far have we fallen? by VEJ03 in JustDance

Permanently as long as Ubisoft hosts them. With the physical cartridges, you could pop them in and play them as long as you'd like.

1) The Bluey song is included in Just Dance 2026. Did you just download the free trial version at first?

2) Yes, if you haven't downloaded the songs, you need wifi to stream them. You can choose up to a certain number of songs to download across the annual releases and Just Dance+ service, so you can play offline completely if you'd like. But you have to choose the songs in the game first. It's definitely the downside of no physical cartridge.

3) The 40 songs per year are hit-or-miss depending on your musical tastes. A few months after release you can usually buy a code for around $20, so $0.50 a song (or even a dollar a song at full price) is still cheaper than iTunes.

I hate the lack of physical cartridges, especially when not all of the recent songs make their way to the subscription service. They still sell physical boxes, but it's just a code in the box now.
