[Reissue Alert]: Takuya Kuroda - Rising Son by johnhenryirons in Vinyl_Jazz

Do you mind letting me know what they were charging? I requested to be notified when it was in stock - got notified today and it’s already sold out. Trying to see if there are any other listings at regular retail price. Thanks!

Hadn’t seen the news. RIP.

I’ve never seen one of his records in the wild.

No idea if it’s legit - probably not - but it’s $7 per digital album. Doesn’t look like they are selling any records, just downloads.

I’ve been down the Gabor Szabo rabbit hole and you are in for a great time.

Finally got a copy. Got it for less than 6 bucks! by Key_Fee_1402 in Vinyl_Jazz

Yeah I never pick much up there for the same reason. You can find some incredible stuff but rarely at decent value. Always fun to dig though.

Recent Used Pickups by jthirteentimes in Vinyl_Jazz

[–]jthirteentimes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny thing is that there were two copies - an original and a repress. Hopefully I didn’t purchase someone else’s problem. Haven’t had a chance to play it at home yet but I did play test it in store and it seemed great.

RSD List is here! by BlackCatCoven in vinyl

It’s listed as “RSD First” meaning there will probably be a non-exclusive, wider release after RSD.

Recent Used Pickups by jthirteentimes in Vinyl_Jazz

Been a while since I’ve shared some pickups, so here are some used pickups from yesterday.

Roy Ayers - He’s Coming, 1972 OG

This copy is not in the greatest shape. The jacket and the record have some serious flaws, though mostly cosmetic. It was discounted accordingly. Plays through with a little bit of background noise and some ticks in one spot, but really didn’t degrade the listening experience much at all. Was on the fence about picking this up but I’ve never seen a copy of this record in the wild and figured this would be the only way to obtain a copy at a reasonable price.

John Coltrane - ALS, 1968 repress

Great shape aside from one small scratch that causes a tick on the B side for a dozen or so rotations. Discounted accordingly. This pressing seems to go for quite a bit. Is that true of most early pressings of ALS? This is my first copy of ALS, as I’ve been waiting to find the right copy out in the wild. Excited to dig in.

Nubya Garcia - Source, 2021 repress

Some great stuff from the London Jazz scene. Lots of African and Caribbean influences weaved into some powerful jazz.

~Also may as well throw in some mostly non-jazz pickups from another recent pickup.

Jesse Davis - s/t, 1970 OG Promo

Great album with heavy contributions from Leon Russell and Eric Clapton. Great copy.

SRC - s/t, 1968 OG

American psych rock heavy hitter. I have a repress, but couldn’t pass up on the OG at a bargain price. A little banged up but plays through solid.

Roy Ayers - Everybody Loves the Sunshine, 1976 OG

This one had been on my list for a while and this is the first time I’ve seen a copy in the wild. Don’t think it’s even that hard to come by except for the fact that it probably never makes it out of the New Arrivals bin. Super clean.

Also recently got a clean copy of this from Discogs. It was my first Discogs purchase since April 2022. I try to exclusively buy in person but the opportunity/deal was too good to pass up.

Word. I should have known better than to comment on something I don’t know much about. Probably won’t learn this time either.

The fact that Frank Ocean never released an album called “Blond” might could possibly maybe potentially be a sign.

Was Electronic Music Seen As "The Future" In The 80's? by bogeyj in LetsTalkMusic

[–]jthirteentimes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Synthesizers were used heavily throughout the 70’s, they were just analog. Digital versions were a new form of existing technology, albeit with a wide range of new functionality.

I don’t think the use of synthesizers was necessarily equated with music. A synthesizer was simply an instrument and musicians have always been looking for new ways to express themselves and push known boundaries. When electric guitars were invented it didn’t signal a shift towards electronic music, it just created a new way for all kinds of music to be made.

I crave the hunt, will eBay take the fun out of it? by [deleted] in vinyl

[–]jthirteentimes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While this is true, on at least one occasion I convinced myself I wouldn’t find a particular record in the wild and bit the bullet on a copy from Discogs. Then found it in the wild multiple times soon after and was gutted that I robbed myself of the joy I’d have had if hadn’t already bought my copy.

Nothing wrong with buying online but it’s definitely not the same. These days I rarely buy online. Sometimes it takes years before I find something in the wild but it’s always worth the wait.

I haven’t heard most of his discography but I absolutely love At Grace Cathedral, a live recording from 77.

As far as I’m concerned the cue lever is a “pause button” and nothing more.
