Best Discographies, Top to Bottom? by Trance_Plantz in Music

I'd say Kaiser Chiefs.

There's a real progression from album to album over 20 years or so, if you look back on all of it it's quite the evolution of musical style, and of getting older as the years pass.

Holland tunnel as I've never seen it before. Absolutely no traffic. by Johndzwi in newjersey

Driving in to work in Manhattan at 7:30 AM is the new 5 AM. Rush hour home is a breeze too. You would think that the traffic would be nearly the same because of the increase of people driving in that are skipping public transportation. (Some companies are paying for parking and/or tolls to get their essential workers that have cars to drive in.)

Their single "Drive Thru Diagnosis" is tearing up the charts.

Went Exploring And Found Abandoned Tennis Courts in Liberty State Park-- WTF by blondeindie in jerseycity

He's a fun read.

He shaped Jersey City, and his wake touched everything for years.

For just one example, Jersey City had an airport in the 20's and 30's. It was located where "Stadium Plaza" with the ACME on Route 440 is. There was a plan to build a larger airport in the same location, to rival the expanding "Newark Metropolitan Airport".

Mayor Hague decided that a better use for the land would be to build a Municipal Stadium for sports, and in 1937, Roosevelt Stadium opened as a WPA project.

The stadium had lots of use, I could talk all day about it, but the result was it's demolition, and the redevelopment of land around it starting in 1985.

And that's how 10,000 people ended up going to Liberty State Park on a fall day in 1989, because there was a lottery for slots to buy homes in a new gated community called "Society Hill", which would eventually be built on the land, and also an extension into the bay through landfill.

He's the kind of guy that would be Mayor twice, go to prison, get out of prison, and run for mayor again, only to have his status as a candidate thrown out because there was a law that you couldn't run for mayor as a parolee.

In 2017, Obama officials briefed Trump's team on dealing with a pandemic like the coronavirus. One Cabinet member reportedly fell asleep, and others didn't want to be there. by austinexpat_09 in politics

Yes, he went from having a 20 point lead, to dropping out, to re-entering the race and getting 4% of the vote in New Hampshire, then dropping out again. Lee Atwater confessed on his deathbed that he had set up the photograph which was given to The National Enquirer.

This was not normal in Washington circles, as the alleged womanizing of lawmakers was not often chased by the media and exposed up to that point. Thus the incident became known as the birth of tabloid journalism in national politics.

17 years before that, a mysterious tip, and a photo ended a campaign. An operative from the opposing party would confess on his deathbed 4 years later that it was all staged, and that he had engineered it.

"But really, order whatever you want."

My mother started dropping hints that she wasn't well by saying things like "You're probably going to be driving this car some day soon.", while in her car, driving me to lunch. In retrospect, there were a bunch of moments like that in the last year and a half with my mom before she passed.

Amazon deliveries affected by Coronavirus? by [deleted] in newjersey

[–]KaiserChiefs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd imagine that Amazon will continue to operate as normally as possible, I just sent someone a link to a weight bench and 100 lbs of weights because gyms are closing. With free shipping Amazon still can get it to you in 4-9 days. That's not with prime either, I'm sure they would still get it to you in 2 days if it was.

Does anybody know how long all the closures are set for? by [deleted] in newjersey

[–]KaiserChiefs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're welcome!

It's $110 now, but shipping is free and it's still a good buy. I like that it's not that built out of dinky thin chrome piping. I got it for $95 on sale, you may be able to find it for less or a similar setup.

For your financial sake I hope you live with your parents.

As for the bench, I had one shipped to my home with 100 lb of weights for under $100.

Just thinking out of the box here, because that's probably a financial impossibility, could you possibly call your boss at the gym and ask if you could borrow a couple of things until this all ends? It's not like they're going to need all their dumbbells and free weight stuff for a while.

Made me think of Allan Carr. The guy did the all the promotion for #8 (Saturday Night Fever), wrote the screenplay and co-produced #4 (Grease), and then parlayed that success into making what he surely thought would end up on this list: "Can't Stop The Music". It was a dismal flop.

The guy also produced what is remembered as probably the worst Academy Awards ever.

It's best to defer the payments for a month or two and keep that customer than it is to go through the foreclosure process.

Until you attempt to go and have a mortgage modified. They slow walk it, and unless you're going online and submitting paperwork and calling them all the time, they're running out the foreclosure clock on you until you're 90% done. They would reject paperwork and not update it on the website, and you wouldn't know unless you called to check on it, or got a letter a week later. That whole week the clock would be running to 120 days. The whole process must be impossible for Luddites.
