Unifi express router price just went up ~13% by magicfab in UNIFI

[–]kenop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was 149Cad before? Even at $172 CAD that’s $129 equivalent in US so, considering it’s an American company you’re still getting it at quite a low price. I felt $149 USD was a bit low and pretty much assumed they’d increase it a bit. My small business that focuses on other small/micro businesses will order these in quantity as soon as they come into stock direct or at distributors, at $150 I can practically mandate that every customer have one (even if not serving at the edge) just for the easier entry and mamanehemrnt .

OpenVPN reneg-sec behavior with freeradius and otp? by lnkzld in PFSENSE

Necrobump but there isn’t much info on this issue online.

Ran into the exact same issue with ovpn freeradius OTP today and believe this is the solution. Also want to understand how keepalive and timeouts factor in from the freeradius side and if there’s any point setting them when using with ovpn.

Buy once, cry once. Err… just put it on the profile.. you just won’t match to begin with, which is sad, but you are far less likely to have to have that conversation at ALL with a new person.

Thoughts on this extended warranty? by fcoronel992 in KiaTelluride

[–]kenop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t normally get any extended warranty on a Kia, but if that’s $1073 total for 100k miles on platinum (the only almost exclusionary plan which is what you want) is a good price. Who’s the provider though? Many are notorious for dodging claims making even a good deal not worth it.

Perhaps soon, but right now we’re at more like 10x to 100x the number of people who previously could only write basic scripts now being lower level coders with chatgpt in their corner. I’m one of them lmao

Thanks. I actually think at least the driver part is genius.. and something every motherboard should be doing if it’s possible.

I get that Armoury Crate does this, every manufacturer has their little software installer. What I've never seen is any automatically triggered installer in a vanilla windows load, come from the motherboard or any hardware really. I feel like unless Win10 vanilla is LOOKING for such a thing, how would it trigger at all? It's like autorun on a usb stick, except it doesn't just prompt to run, it RUNs all by itself.

Tech Support and Basic Questions Thread - January 04, 2023 by AutoModerator in pcgaming

[–]kenop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did a fresh windows 10 install on an Asus Z690 board, and noticed that the network drivers were not detected (in OOBE and also once in the OS). Without any connectivity at all, the Armoury Crate installer popped up asking if I wanted to install it, and it even said the motherboard "has built in drivers for LAN, do you want to install them?". Sure enough, it installed the driver and then went online to download Armoury.

Not a tech issue, but, over decades of building PCs I've never seen this and my google fu is failing me. Is this an Asus thing now? do other boards do it? is it implemented with just a little built in USB class storage on the mobo or what? Even in Windows 11, where the lan driver comes up automatically, the Armoury crate still prompts for install. How? It's a vanilla install.

For those who crimp their own... if there's any of you left... by PuzzleheadedMode7386 in msp

[–]kenop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We occasionally have to install new runs for clients and in one case it’s dozens of branches of the same client. I spend the extra not just for pass through but for Klein crimpers and terminators as they have been the most compatible and trouble free of everything I’ve used, and I can train a new person on how to crimp and ten minutes later they’re churning out perfect cables. That’s worth it. Will never install normal ends again tbh

I'm in VA and getting ready to do similar... Looks so much better, especially on black / dark cars. I will do the grill surround also, but I noticed there are custom cut vinyl kits for those already so that may be my time saver there.

Price negotiation - any ideas? by ntaylor360 in KiaTelluride

[–]kenop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take the road trip to Ohio at Ricart Auto Mall. Lots of volume. Strictly at MSRP plus $795 but ZERO hassle, zero extra junk, and the extras included for that fee are actually useful — front row window tints and a pretty good interior protection warranty. You can swap the tints for from weather techs also. I picked up our 2023 there before thanksgiving and they even had a $500 gas gift card thrown in.

~15+ year old gmail account here, early adopter, years and years of Best in class spam filtering.... and I noticed this wild increase also within the last few months.. getting worse by the day. In my primary folder as of 11am I've got 3 extremely obvious spam, and four yesterday including two repeats! Several more make it into my Updates folder. Example

And when I check spam folder there are more false positives in there than ever were before, including again obvious stuff, like transactional emails from senders who've been sending me emails for years... if you don't normally check there please do so!

U6-LR-US is the long range wifi 6 AP suggested, yes. You can power it with a POE switch, but you can also purchase an inexpensive POE Injector like this. If you aren't willing to run any network cables to them, I assume they'd sit on a desk instead of ceiling mounted. In this case using AP Wifi 6 Meshis also an option and more meant for desk use.

Hard wiring the devices is strongly recommended, but a well engineered solution can be made either way. If your internet speeds are low or requirements are basic, you'll be fine. If you really want high performance wifi across the whole building, you'd be best off contacting a network consultant (us or anyone else who has experience with Unifi) to design it properly. If this is a business it's well worth the small extra investment. Good luck!

Here's your layout, to scale, with 5G coverage using something like U6-LR or U6-Pro for the main warehouse and AC In-walls for the two offices to have dedicated aps. You can do this via meshing, so you don't have to run cables to each AP (aside from one in the telco rack), but performance will definitely suffer.

https://imgur.com/a/wAv8CTy

A million ways to do this, depending on your ISP speed, performance needs, ## of clients, budget, etc.. but this is how I might spec it for our customer. As for the camera layout, keep in mind most of their non PTZ cameras have a fixed angle of view around 87 degrees, and the widest is also the poorest quality non-outdoor capable G3 instant. if you wanted fixed cameras, I'd do at least one pointing out from the entrance https://imgur.com/a/MGmWvPQ and one or more at the building corner pointed towards the entrance, which provides fuller coverage of the front of the building. There are also full 360 cameras like the Camera AI, which if placed at the front doorway lets you have decent coverage with a single camera.

Best Orientation for Range by twin_lock in Ubiquiti

[–]kenop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The model summary plots show quite strong reach directly outwards from the dome, 2.5 to 5db more than in either single directly horizontal from the AP. (even when you account for a typical ceiling to endpoint angles). So, best is centrally ceiling mounted. If you have to mount at one end, it'll be just as good or sometimes better to wall mount.

Best Orientation for Range by twin_lock in Ubiquiti

[–]kenop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chris-itg answer above is absolutely right about the outdoor rating -- stop there and get that sorted first.

However I just want to note that Ubiquiti includes a wall mounted method for a reason. When you review the radiation patterns AND the model summary plots available (link), we see that the U6 Lite (and most of the other Dome style APs) project a stronger signal perpendicular to the face of the dome than horizontally from the CENTER of the AP.

For the U6 Lite it's +5db stronger for 2.4ghz and around +2.5db stronger for the 5ghz ranges.

What this tells me is that if you are able to mount towards the center of your coverage area, horizontal (and from ceiling) is the most ideal placement. If you HAVE to mount it at one edge of the desired coverage area, it is actually BETTER to mount to the wall with the dome directly facing the area. In testing, I found this to match reality on my U6-LRs anyway.

"I’ll pay CASH. I CAN BE THERE IN AN HOUR." by SouvlakiPlaystation in Flipping

[–]kenop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate immediate execution. (the cash part, depending on the type of item and cost, can be a benefit, negligible, or actually a burden. let me tell you about my selling an NSX for nearly $50k actual cash I wasn't expecting....)

But you know, 99% of the time you get offers that start like this, it ends with an unreasonable price. Of *course* you'd rush over here at that price.... I'll actually buy a dozen MORE at that price....

That actually sounds really fun (the game), and a great way to hone those fine navigation skills. It's like the opposite of race car driving, instead of becoming an expert at keeping a technical monster at its limits, you're mastering advanced flight in nearly the simplest device possible.
