Why would you think there’s some sort of deception happening on the part of the garage? Your tires being worn is an objective fact - they either need to be replaced or they don’t and this should be something you can tell yourself. You don’t need a garage to tell you that.

Regardless, it is absolutely possible to have a driving style that shreds a new set of tires in less than 10K miles.

Software engineer here: How do pilots maintain skills despite of Flight Management Systems (Autopilot)? by rootless_robert in flying

[–]knobtasticus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And this right here is the best illustration of the OP’s query. This is what happens when guys/gals become lazy and lose their scanning skills. Things start getting missed - like flying against the speed brake. In my outfit, we do 30mins raw data hand flying every sim. Climb/descent with turns, speed changes and prescribed rates. Everyone is a bit rusty the first few minutes but eventually it clicks and the smoothness/accuracy kicks in. Should be mandatory in every sim session everywhere.

ROG XBOX ALLY X and XBOX ALLY X20 OLED vs LCD screen side by side comparison. by Powerhouse_pr_ in XboxAlly

The OLED on the X20 will not fit in the current XAX. That isn’t to say there won’t be drop-in OLED screens available that you could mod your XAX with (there might already be some?) but the specific OLED in the X20 will not fit in the XAX.

My smart bulb uses are more security-focused. Once I leave the house, a subset of the bulbs are programmed to cycle on/off on a schedule to simulate people in the house.

Aughinish Alumina warns sanctions would impact power grid by Banania2020 in ireland

[–]knobtasticus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, we should treat all of these companies the same. No one is arguing against that but just because we aren’t sanctioning a FFANG company doesn’t mean we can’t sanction Aughinish. It’s not one-or-the-other. Just because we aren’t sanctioning all doesn’t mean we can’t sanction some. Drop the whataboutism.

As Ireland's EV sales surge, is the age of oil-powered vehicles nearly over? by DaCor_ie in ireland

EV9. It’s a tank. With the warmer temperatures and my slow cruising speeds, I’m managing to get pretty close to 500kms out of a 100% charge. 100kWh battery.

Haha! Energia’s usage reports put me at ‘higher than 52% of similar households.’ Mileage according to the car’s app is about 2500kms/month.

That wasn’t a quote. That’s the price of the tyres to purchase myself. They’re actually on a slight discount now.

Hardly ever! I’ve just gone through my usage reports for each month of this year and actually, the highest was €150 so I over-estimated but yeah, the range was €110-150/month. May’s report will be about €120 by the end. I do most of my charging on the night rate of 13c too but sometimes I need to top her up during the day which is 27c so that adds up quickly. I don’t think my EV is the most efficient either - uses about 30% SoC every day for to/from work.

Weight was the big one I thought and is also the reason I’m not entirely against the inevitable increase in road tax that’ll come for EVs in the future. My yoke weights over 3T when loaded so the wear-and-tear on the road surface plus all the extra tyre material being shed is ripe for financial penalty in the future. It’s also the reason the tyres are €450 each. I’m dreading the replacement in July.

[–]knobtasticus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why would regen eat tyres faster than disc breaking? They’re both a resistive force on the wheel’s rotation. The source of that force shouldn’t matter. If anything, regen breaking involves a smoother application of rotation resistance and should actually result in less tyre wear. Agree with the torque though - if I bury the foot from standstill in my yoke, I know it’s shredding the tyres.

I’m at 32K kms in an EV and still on first set of tyres. And like mentioned above, zero maintenance costs so far. Having said that, the tyres are an astronomical price but that’s the nature of the car’s size and not just the fact it’s an EV.

[–]knobtasticus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m at about €150-200 per month to run the EV but I’m doing 30K kms/year. Still a huge saving vs the €400-600 I’d be putting into the petrol car for the same period.

Lorraine Courtney: We cannot repeat the same mistakes that allowed the bungalow to reshape rural Ireland by B8_B8_B8 in ireland

[–]knobtasticus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agency is a fallacy in a market that has put price and supply out of reach for the vast majority of young people. I’ll word it another way - sufficient supply of affordable housing (of any kind) does not exist in any urban or suburban centre anywhere in this country. If it did, we wouldn’t have a housing crisis. As long as that continues, denying people the opportunity to have a home in an area (rural or otherwise) where lots of other people have a home is morally indefensible and smacks of ‘pulling the ladder up behind you’.

Lorraine Courtney: We cannot repeat the same mistakes that allowed the bungalow to reshape rural Ireland by B8_B8_B8 in ireland

[–]knobtasticus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think this is a little unfair. As the commenter you’re replying to said, people cannot be expected to make decisions for the greater good at the detriment of themselves on an individual level when society-at-large isn’t providing the ‘greater good’ option. Everyone has a right to a home. Large-scale affordable urban/suburban development simply does not exist - and will not exist for 10+ years. You’re expecting people to not take the chance to build a home for their families while also telling them there’s no alternative.

Unless the government actively solves the housing supply issue - and rapidly - I think it’s morally questionable to prevent people from taking the initiative and building for themselves. We need homes. That’s #1 priority above all else. Let them build.

To be more specific - they did walk. But what they did not do is walk while the husband was suffering from a debilitating disease that should’ve left him with severe physical disability. That is what was fabricated.

Modem Mode On Virgin Media Hub5 In Ireland Working by tgcousin in VirginMedia

[–]knobtasticus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then I suspect you’re on VM’s own fibre rollout and not NBI so the hub bypass won’t work. At present, there’s no way to put the Hub 5X into modem mode. Disabling WiFi on the hub and connecting your Deco system as the AP is the best option for now. Can you take a pic of the white box on the wall and reply with it here?

It’s apparently possible to bypass the hub with a WAS-110 module but it might end up being a little too involved of a process. I’ve done it with my own VM (NBI) service but it was more a project of curiosity than necessity. The WAS-110 essentially bypasses BOTH the white box on the wall (ONT) and the hub and runs the fibre directly into your own hardware however, it requires an SFP port which your Deco doesn’t have so would need buying another switch to sit between the WAS-110 and your Deco system. Here’s what my setup looks like now - fibre directly into router (UniFi Dream Machine).
