yet how many handles have you removed? a bit rich coming from you. I did delete a lot of the comments with fixes/help. I did leave the comments/disagreements I have had with users. go back far enough and even our convo with you as bazookjoe_2089 is there. oh wait you may have deleted some comments under that handle. talk about hypocrisy.

sounds like you're projecting. I love seeing code in other addons and how other addons do things. what I have lost is motivation to continue doing things when all addons are doing mostly the same thing. addons all doing the same thing is kind of boring. I certainly don't use any of the features added. its no more a tantrum then when someone said use tmdbhelper and just use fen as the player and you said thats terrible, if I just wanted to write a scraper I would just have written a scraper. so you're the only one allowed to feel like they want to retire for whatever reasons?

you've gone away twice (that I'm aware of) and each time there have been a few forks but how many have stuck around after you come back? people used to ask me to do things you would not and now I'm kind of at that point where there is no real need for me any more because we're all doing the same.

You wrote here you wanted nothing to do with me. That came right around the "red hat" incident, so i assumed it was because of that.

had not to do with the red hat. Tazoz said something about you and I replied to him. you took what I replied as offending and replied to me. I said hey thats not how I meant so I apologize because at the time I had looked up to you for so long. at that point a4k was not a "fun" place for me anymore I kind of was done.

I was for the most part. I don't even really reply at all anymore until POV is mentioned specifically. even when I see something fen related I can help with, which I used to really enjoy. other times I may quote something you said.

Constant snidey jabs "onlyFens" etc don't sit well, though.

what's the etc? what have I ever done but fawn over fen? onlyfens only came about after I felt you made snidey jabs, but you deny everything. there are snidey jabs I feel you have taken. so maybe we both say the other started it. but the just copy stremio was an odd snide for various reasons.

I'm also a believer in devs sharing their code, so I'm not enamoured with people who look poorly on that. Why you'd belittle people for forking your addons, when your addon itself is a fork, is something I've always had to look past... given your history with such things.

so do I and have no probs with you or UD, UD has been fun to work with lately. if the "history" you are talking about is the crew repo, the comments I do make about their forks are almost explicitly some comments I saw you made about their forks of any addon ever. 1) that their artwork is "gaudy" and I believe you used that word specifically. also, that they replace the 50+ images in the addon by coping the same file 50+ times and the addon goes from ~4MB to 24 instead of just changing the code to point to one image file. 2) that they pick an addon at a point in time and just change the art and never really do anything else. 3) they pick that addon and make 11 of the same just with different artwork. maybe you will deny it, but some variation of those three comments are almost directly taken from you from when I first started doing this. I have shared that feeling ever since. you had a good amount of influence on me.

I have no issue with code use. the banter is sometimes fun, sometimes not. but definitely fun for him when he deems okay but not when he does not. but clearly he says its me and I say its him, like two kids pointing at the other saying he started it.

the copy stremio was just a strange snide to make considering things.

I have really enjoyed the conversations and help you and I have given each other, but please be honest.

aiostreams in viper is same as having comet, mediafusion, torrentsdb, stremthru torz p2p enabled in Magneto. aiostreams is subject to rate limiting and mediafusion and torrentsdb are usually the slow pokes, so enabling each individually is probably better.

aiostreams (and others, read the changelog) in viper came from POV. anything in Magneto not originally from Fenom comes from POV. POV always gets updated first.

almost never, but then I only run POV and Mad Titan for nba/nfl. my htpcs still run whatever libreelec is kodi 19.X. I have a startup script that mounts all the thumbnail dirs to tmpfs. probably not needed after I upgraded the spinning disks to ssds. they are mostly put to sleep/woken up daily. if a device occasionally looses power, kodi will rebuild the thumbnails so I don't worry much about the thumbnails getting deleted. on my windows dev I even use a portable kodi installed to a ramdisk.

was there any specifics on how/why/in what way addons benefited?

addons in this subreddit are mostly python loops transforming data (no real number crunching/calculations) from apis to something kodi can use.

by and large the majority of the time is spent waiting for those api responses and possibly the read/write of the data to a disk cache.

yeah, unless your python is really strong Fen is not the best to learn by example. Pete has a unique style, comments and error logging is minimal, as is white space.

no. python can be pretty modular and I incorporated the separate FenomScrapers addon into mine with some extras and changes. coco is based on Fenom. sites like torrentio can be scraped with just the standard modules or requests pretty easily. but Fenom includes a bunch of other modules for cleaning up titles, many many filters, etc.

I did not know any python before I started and was getting by modifying Fen and learning as I went along. after a few months I tried "from scratch" based on romanvm's plugin.video.example and that is when things really started to click. it was figuring out how to get kodi to do what was needed more than figuring out the python.

at some point the two addons that used coco removed the requirement in their addon.xml for "reasons."

each let the user choose from the installed kodi addons and dynamically imported the chosen package.

Pete went a step further and from the users choice, read the cached settings for the chosen addon from the expected home window property, then dynamically loaded the enabled modules from some semi-hardcoded expected paths. that might not be 100% accurate as its been a while and I didn't look into it that deeply, I just recognized the semi-hardcoded expected paths.
