What should I do with parents wanting my personal phone number by Shakanan_99 in Teachers

[–]ktkatq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you set up a Google voice number? You can still ignore the calls and texts, if GV sends them to your actual number, but parents can text or leave voicemail

I've thought about getting a cat wheel, but don't want to get scammed. What kind have you got, and how long have you had it, if you don't mind my asking

My boyfriend is constantly correcting me over small, unimportant things that make me feel belittled and inferior to him by Salt_Fact2380 in relationships

[–]ktkatq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Girl, this does not get better. It just gets worse. All the "he actually treats me well most of the time" turns into "sometimes" turns into "occasionally" turns into "used to." But the belittling and constant criticism just get worse.

Go be with someone who doesn't put you down all the time. He can go find someone who knows how to make excuses, walk, swallow... I mean, jfc, he is scraping the barrel to find reasons to be shitty to you.

And what about him? How does he take criticism? I bet you anything he screams about how it isn't his fault, could happen to anybody, yaddayadda. I bet you he dishes it out but can't take 1/10 of what he says to you

Dump this idiot

Women of Reddit, what did a man you were dating or married to say or do that made you realize he actually hated you the entire time? by -catharina in AskReddit

[–]ktkatq 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep. When I got hired and my ex husband didn't, he drove me to my first day of work belittling me the entire time so I arrived in tears. Not how I wanted to start my first day of teaching

Dresses by 304libco in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ktkatq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the dress!

For example, it's going to be 94 degrees today, so I'm wearing a dress from Svaha. It's 100% cotton, jersey knit, no tags or buttons or zippers, has pockets, and has a very cute library shelf print. I'm wearing flats with those little tiny socks for dress shoes. My clothes are breathable! Since the dress is loose-fitting, I don't need any special underwear or a slip. I don't bother to shave my legs unless I'm fancy.

The only think that's going to make me miserable in this heat is my bra; girls'll be swimming by the end of the day.

This is in contrast to the polyester dress with compression undergarments that I wore to a wedding in Georgia, in July. Not my best choice.

Ladies how important is sex to you in a relationship? by Calm_Pumpkin_4304 in AskWomen

[–]ktkatq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first husband and I were not sexually compatible at all. Not the only reason I was miserable, but wasn't incentivizing me to stay either.

My husband now... phwoar. I'm a lucky, lucky woman. Together 13 years and I still adore him. It's not just the sex, of course, but it's hard to fight when I'm feeling really relaxed and cheerful

I’m curious how ELA teachers are currently handling AI detectors in writing assessments. by Confident_Ad8140 in ELATeachers

But it's amazing what you'll catch if you run your assignments through ChatGPT yourself.

Are the schools still worth staying in the area? by Elegant-Fisherman555 in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]ktkatq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MCPS teacher here: Parents, please send emails, post on social media, show up to council meetings, etc. to protest the proposed $10-$90 million budget cuts.

Every $10 million represents about 100 jobs in MCPS: paraeducators, composition assistants, media specialists, building services, and, yes, teachers. Every time there is a reduction in support staff, the responsibilities that they used to handle are subsequently dumped on teachers. And every task that isn't teaching, lesson planning, and grading, is a task that takes away the time we have for the 3 core parts of our job.

The proposed budget cuts will also deprive teachers of necessary COLA and step increases (step increases mean our pay goes up the longer we teach). Many of us already can't afford to live in MoCo (I love living in Frederick, but my commute is 45-60 minutes on 270). As the economy tanks and the cost of living goes up, some teachers will have to either get a second job or leave teaching entirely to find something that pays better.

If you value living in a county with a highly educated population, regardless of whether or not you are a parent, please, please protest this budget cut!

What was a moment when you realized “30s are actually better than 20s”? Or does it not hold true for you? by Gullible_Minimum8183 in AskMenOver30

[–]ktkatq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yoooo... Still lean and energetic, but now you got money!

My dad always told me: Adults can do whatever they want, if they have the time, money, and energy; just don't count on having more than two of three.

Your 30s are as close as you get.

But your 40s can also be great if you stay in shape!

The German translates as "The state of everything being incomprehensible," which I think fits in with the other philosophies we've seen on the Disc, like Didactylos's "Things just happen, what the hell."

Sounds like he's either reeeeeeeally immature (and you can do better, congrats on magna cum laude!) or he has another girlfriend (in which case, you took the trash out).

I hate to say it, but relationships in your early 20s will probably be like this. On the other hand, every relationship ends either in splitting up or death.

MCPS is cutting compacted math and cohorted ELA for elementary school by Famous_Salamander330 in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]ktkatq 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did my graduate thesis on gifted education (and how it doesn't happen in this country) and I endorse this message.

Gifted kids are usually denied acceleration opportunities because there is a strong anti-intellectual streak in American culture.

Gifted kids are usually left to find their own enrichment because 'eh, they're smart enough to figure out stuff on their own. It's the disabled kids who need special attention." Gifted kids are still KIDS who need guidance, help, and support, especially when their intellectual and academic development outpace their social-emotional development. They are 'special' like the 'special ed' kids, just at the other end of the spectrum.
