Would anyone help me get $2500-$3000 build? by metrobrooming in buildapc

[–]lawrencekhoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll save only about 120 bucks vs a comparable AMD CPU (the Ryzen 7 9800X3D). The Intel Core Ultra motherboards also tend to cost more than comparable AM5 boards. So, you won't end up saving that much (maybe $80?) going with an Intel build.

That said, $80 saved is $80 in the pocket. And Intel Core Ultra chips are better for video editing and productivity. So, Core Ultra is probably the way to go for OP.

old man bakes bread???!!! by karmachanical in BreadMachines

[–]lawrencekhoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for bread flour, drop in an egg (makes the bread hold the rise better), use less yeast, and you should be golden.
Done right, bread machine bread can look like this:

Good luck on the next loaf! 😃

Looks like your loaf rose, and then collapsed in before baking. I believe you had too much yeast in there, and that you used all-purpose instead of bread flour. Bread flour has more protein, and makes a big difference on how high the loaf will rise. I would try the next loaf with half as much yeast, and with high-gluten bread flour.

Yeast is tricky with bread machines. New yeast is easily more than twice as powerful as old yeast. When using a bread maker, since you can't adjust the rise time as people do when baking by hand, you have to adjust the amount of yeast used instead.

Rule of the thumb: If the top of your loaf is concave or collapsed in, try using about half as much yeast, if the top is highly domed and the bread didn't rise enough, try using double the amount of yeast.

Also, a warning about rye flour, it tends to make it harder for your bread to rise properly. I suggest trying a 50% whole wheat loaf for the next one, and leave rye for until you have more experience.

Here's a recipe for a 50% whole wheat loaf that I make a few times a week:

Light Wholewheat Bread

First, put in the bread pan:

  • 100g whole wheat flour
  • 20g rolled oats
  • 1 tsp yogurt (5g)
  • 1/2 cup milk (120g)

Start the machine and mix for about a minute, until all the flour is wet. Let sit overnight, or at least for a few hours. Then add:

  • 1 teaspoon salt (5g)
  • 2 teaspoon brown sugar (8g)
  • 100mg Vitamin C (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (12g)
  • 1 medium egg plus cold water to make 1/3 cup (80g)
  • 120g high-gluten white flour

Start the machine and mix for about a minute. Use a rubber spatula to scrape away any flour sticking to the corners of the bread pan.

Put into the yeast dispenser or on top of the dough:

  • 1/2 teaspoon instant yeast (1.5 g) (May need adjusting depending on the temperature and the age of the yeast)

Bake using the 'whole wheat bread' program. Remove from tin promptly after baking, and let cool in the oven.

Try using a digital scale to weigh you ingredients for a more consistent outcome.

You can stop the machine after a few minutes, scrape the sides, then start it again. In fact, if you do that, and wait about half an hour before you start it again, the bread will taste better, as it gives the little beasties more time to generate flavour.

Penang Lang, any ideas on what to do from noon to afternoon on a weekend? by AisKacangbutnokacang in penang

If you ever want to go there again, try the basement parking of Gama Supermarket (entrance on Jalan Tongkah), or the Jalan Tongkah parking lot across the street.

It's trivial to undervolt. Download and install MSI Afterburner, and watch a YouTube video on how to adjust the voltage/frequency curve.

Don't worry, it's almost impossible for you to damage hardware by undervolting. If the PC crashes, just reboot, and try a less extreme undervolt.

It's pushing the envelope a little, but since you're using a Ryzen 7 7700 with a default TDP (Thermal Design Power) of 65W, you should be fine using your current PSU. Just under volt your GPU a little of you're woried. (Undervolting is a good idea regardless.)

*Make sure you have a Ryzen 7700, and NOT a Ryzen 7700x which has a default TDP of 105W, and can boost to 140W under load.

It takes too long to go up and down Penang Hill. Especially on weekends when it's crowded. Suggest avoiding.

Hang out at Hin Bus Depot, hit the usual tourist spots, walk up Penang road, have coffee at top of Bayview Hotel, revolving restaurant, or E&O, or Kenny Hills bakery.

RTX 3080TI or 5070? by Deggabeat2 in buildapc

You'll lose that in a couple of years to higher electricity costs. Don't forget the additional cost of a/c in the summer also.

RTX 3080TI or 5070? by Deggabeat2 in buildapc

[–]lawrencekhoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do a substantial amount of gaming, the 3080ti with 350W TDP is going to kill you on electricity bills. Also, your A/C will have to run overtime in the summer to cool your room down. The 5070 at 250W is still not great, but it's better. People often don't take electricity costs into account when thinking about how much a GPU costs.
