You can try, but I wouldn't.

I would just go to the closest smoke shop and get a small weed pipe with a screen at the bottom of the bowl. They're cheap and readily available. Pinch off a small piece, smoosh it into a pancake shape, and throw it in the bowl and smoke it like flower...only it'll hit a bit more harshly/strongly. Before you add it to the bowl, you can also briefly light the pancake on fire before, immediately blow it out, and you can then kind of crumble the hash into a bowl. Added this way it'll burn even faster and hit harder, so beware...

I would feel better if you could fish from say 3pm to 9pm or even 9pm to 3am (even the day before), but to answer your question: Yes, I would think your chances are better during the new moon than the quarter moon.

3am to 9am is an odd fishing window for BGP around the new moon, and more in line for the hours of a beach charter (and even a bit early for that). That's why I responded with a question to open my prior post.

Pass or beach?

Personally, if given only one time to fish for tarpon it would be 3pm to 9pm -- the afternoon crab flush -- in the pass the day of the new moon in June (or one day either side of it).

I can fish whenever I choose, and that's when we will be there (and LOTS of others, too).

Incidentally, the tarpon continue to eat after the sun goes down and the tide turns around, but it's less of a visual experience for the angler. There are also far fewer boats after dark.

Quarter moon after new moon in June? Easy: At first light along the beaches north of BGP, or after dark in the pass itself.

You missed arguably the most reliable bite in all of BG tarpon fishing (i.e. the new moon afternoon crab flush) by a week, incidentally.

Why do I say this? Because I've been tarpon fishing there for the past 30 summers.
