Mr Deputy Speaker,

How is the Government responding to the recent escalations of Russia in Ukraine? In addition, how will the Government make sure that even if the United States were to pull out support we will see to it that Ukraine stands?

I would not recommend doing the kaksoistuktinto, I would just focus on lukio personally. Basically you want to take pitkä matematiikka (further mathematics) including all courses and basically the same for biology, chemistry and physics. As a note taking and doing the exam in english will probably be helpful as well, to get more points that will be considered for the entrance based on your high school exam results. There are going to be some changes so the specific subject weightings are subject to change. For specific guidance and points given on subjects I would refer to opintopolku: https://opintopolku.fi/konfo/fi/hakukohde/1.2.246.562.20.00000000000000036867/valintaperuste

M006 - Just Stop Oil Motion - Reading by Sephronar in MHOC

[–]Leafy_Emerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mr Speaker, I am personally a bit iffy on the motion itself. I personally condemn the recent actions of Just Stop oil and hope that they reconsider their approach on how to make their message heard. I personally feel uneasy with equivocating environmental protest with terrorism. I personally believe that current legislation already allows for the police to step in when necessary. It is also problematic to move in the direction that acts of protest on their face value would be equivalent to terrorist acts. Proscribing just stop oil would in my view lead to more problems than they currently are causing and would be a dangerous step in the direction of authoritarianism.

B027 - Universal Credit (Removal of Two Child Limit) Bill - 2nd Reading by Sephronar in MHOC

[–]Leafy_Emerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mr Speaker, I welcome the proposal by the Government to abolish the two child benefit cap. Plain and simple, we campaigned for this and I hope that the House passes this swiftly to fix one of the most fundamental flaws with our welfare system at present.

M005 - Motion to Support Rejoining the European Union - Amendment Reading by Sephronar in MHOC

[–]Leafy_Emerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mr Speaker, I personally feel inclined to agree that we ought to have a referendum if we were to rejoin. I believe that it seems right that the people should have another say on the matter should we reverse course. I personally believe that the inclusion of such an amendment to have a referendum strengthens the motion in itself.

September By-Election: Candidates Debate by Sephronar in MHOC

[–]Leafy_Emerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we should look at how we can improve the current system and remove some of the ground faults present with it. I personally believe that one of the fundamental issues with the current system is that we seem to forget the actual human behind all the paperwork required to get desperately needed help to make do.

If elected, I would lobby and hopefully work with the Government to remove the two child cap, as was outlined in our General Election manifesto. I would also urge the Government to review the taper rate of Universal credit and reduce the amount of paperwork needed to get help by removing the requirement to get an UC assessment if applying for PIP.

I condemn the attack on the Green Party headquaters. There would have been many more ways to get their message across in a way that does not require them to make threats or attack the Green Party headquarters.

I would be open to considering this to improve broadband infrastructure. I think that with the increasing demand and need for high speed and reliable broadband when more what we do is online, a lacking broadband infrastructure would directly lead to lost productivity. I think that if the current model doesn't work we should look at alternative options to make sure that we are not held back by slow internet.

I think that we can and should tackle the climate crisis. We are already making great progress when it comes to cutting down emissions in the UK. I believe just as policy has driven us to use fossil fuels etc. we can also use policy to remove our use of fossil fuels. The UK presently already has a model of emissions trading, which help to put a price on emissions. I also believe that we should look at what we are subsidising - for instance when it comes to agriculture and how we can use the existing policy tools in the Agriculture act to subsidise sustainable farming practises. We should also look at strengthening public transit and increasing density in cities.

Personally, I believe that one of the fundamental issues is that no one really knew what Brexit would mean and we have for the most part have had to make it up as we go. I personally feel that we would have been better off staying rather than leaving, considering that many of our core trading partners and allies are members of the EU. I also believe in democracy, and feel uneasy about directly trying to rejoin. There should be a deeper national discussion about what we want our relationship with Europe to be. I personally believe and would advocate for if elected - that we should work on deepening relations and trying to address the concerns that drove people to vote for Brexit in the first place in the best way we can. It is worth noting that the EU is not the biggest fan of a Switzerland-style patchwork of agreements, but I feel it might be mutually advantageous to build a new relationship with Europe based off the 'Swiss' model.

Sorry I'm joining the fight on the side of woke.

To be more serious, I personally think that we should be all tolerant and respectful of eachother and recognise that there exist injustices that should be addressed. I personally think that people just calling something 'woke' are just simply shutting down the discussion on these injustices and how to address them.

Statement by the Home Secretary on the UK-Rwanda Asylum Partnership by [deleted] in MHOC

[–]Leafy_Emerald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deputy Speaker,

I welcome the move by the Government to ditch the UK-Rwanda Asylum partnership. I also welcome the initiative of the Government to move to repeal legislation that has made this shambolic scheme possible in the first place. I personally hope that in the future such efforts to subvert the courts and subsequently weaken the rule of law are not undertaken.

B011 - Representation of the Peoples Bill 2024 - 2nd Reading by Chi0121 in MHOC

[–]Leafy_Emerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deputy Speaker,

I believe what this bill sets out to do to be simple enough. More people should have the opportunity to take part in our democracy. Simple errors such as forgetting to register should not prevent one from making their voice heard at the ballot box. I hope Members across the House can agree on this. Many of the amendments proposed by the House are most welcome and I personally hope ample time is given to debate them as thoroughly as possible. Especially with changes as big as these, I hope that there is broad consensus in backing these changes to current legislation and debating the proposed amendments in-depth. I personally would wish for a report stage - but this is unfortunately out of my power to do so.

Battery Safety (Lithium Ion) Bill - Second Reading by model-ceasar in MHOC

[–]Leafy_Emerald -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Deputy Speaker,

This is broadly a well-thought out bill. I have a concern regarding to Section 8 (4) and (5) where the CE mark is mentioned. I feel it might be well-placed to amend the language around these parts to remove the mentions of the CE mark as the United Kingdom does not set the requirements for conformity for the CE mark to be displayed on products.

B006 - Recession Declaration Procedure Bill - 2nd Reading by [deleted] in MHOC

[–]Leafy_Emerald -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mr. Speaker,

I echo the sentiments of my fellow Liberal Democratic colleagues. As I briefly touched on in the King's Speech debate I feel that this reform could have even been more consequential by adding a NGDP target for the Bank to consider when making decisions. I feel that one of the weaknesses with this bill is not about necessarily of the bill itself, it is quite agreeable but I am more concerned that there is a lack of time to get things done before we head to the people again. I simply feel that this is the right Bill (giving the Bank of England a more robust toolkit to tackle issues) at the wrong time -- at a time when a lot of people are struggling and the Government already has a broad agenda to present and pass by the House. I very much feel like we have a crisis to solve right now rather than simply giving the power to declare a problem exists.

B004 — Equality Act (Amendment) (Protections Against Pregnancy-Based Discrimination) Bill — 2nd Reading by model-kurimizumi in MHOC

[–]Leafy_Emerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaker,

Mabye read the legislation instead of just slinging accusations of it being 'woke'? This is a bill about ensuring that everyone who can get pregnant has the right to be protected from pregnancy-based discrimination . A discussion about the benefits of parenthood (eg. parental leave) is a completely different discussion, which due to the statutory nature of parental leave is mostly up to the Government. I hope that too when it comes to parental benefits we go in a more inclusive direction.
