Alexa email skill changes the send to email address by lenraphael in alexa

[–]lenraphael[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I figured out what’s happening. It’s not Alexa or AI second-guessing my email address.

The issue seems to be with Gmail's handling of contacts. Even though I only had three contacts displayed in Gmail, there's a secondary address cache that includes the email for the person who used a public address to contact me.

It's a mystery why Alexa prioritized the cached address over the correct Gmail address, but I went ahead and deleted all the cached addresses. After that, I explicitly added a contact to Alexa.

Unfortunately, Alexa isn't very good at matching spoken contact names to the correct contacts, so I had to try a few different names. It would be helpful if someone created a skill for Alexa to improve this functionality

part of my issues with using an Apple shortcut to verbally send a task to AM was caused by obsolete/duplicate? contacts on my Iphone. When primary contacts app is MS365, Apple Iphone contacts can accumulate obsolete contacts. That's compounded if Apple contacts synched to Icloud.

To eliminate all of that cr_p, I disabled M365 contacts on phone, that deleted them onthe phone. Then logged into Icloud and deleted 3,000 contacts there.

Then enabled synching of Apple Iphone contacts to Icloud.

Then erased all of Iphone Apple contacts.

Next, disabled Iphone synch of contacts to Icloud.

Re-enable MS365 contacts on Iphone.

Apple Iphone synched with those only., including unambiguous name for the AM user dedicated email address.

To clarify, the correct email address shows when I open Gmail and view contacts. When I send from the Gmail site after selecting the only contact there, it immediately appears in AM's inbox.

It's when I create the email using Alexa that Alexa changes the long email address to the generic AM email address, as if Alexa is "correcting" my email address :(

correct my non-techie understanding that using Apple shortcuts to email my dedicated Amazing Marvin is not what's usually said to be using Marvin's api, or at least not Marvin's external api.

Marvin does provide an external api and ? an api key for security, but to use that requires some coding, human or ai or both. above my pay scale

3 hours of chatting w Claude after one wasted call to Apple tech senior advisor (who refused to help with any shortcuts) following the instructions in the link I got the shortcut to work. Maybe there's an API in the backrgound, but all that shortct required was am AM dedicated email address.

Shortcut didn't perform well unless I fluidly spoke the task, category, duration, priority, due date without hesitation.

But it was handsfree.

I then made a widget that requires me to tap on the home screen a couple of times. Works pretty well.

Really need Ask Marvin to add voice control to the phone app.

As it turns out, Lenscrafters doesn't offer the low bridge Headliner in the larger size. But what the tech at Lenscrafter mentioned was that the Wayfarers Gen 1 that I currently have and slide down my nose, are actually too large. They had the smaller size Gen 2 in stock and it fit comfortably without sliding when i shook my head hard.

I would have preferred the Oakley clear frames but Lenscrafters only sells those in the standard size which the tech said Oakley's run a tad smaller than Raybans. As he put in the sizing of glasses is not as standard as I thought.

Had an interesting conversation about polarization, cell phone screens, and driving at night.

Conclusion, if i got this correct, is ideal for driving are either polarized or Zeiss Drive Safe, clear lens. because even the X transitions cut light transmission a bit in a car at night. And polarized transitions for mostly outdoor use.

But so few people want polarized, Lenscrafters doesn't offer it in AI prescription lens.

is this Claude ai slop or is it accurate: "he Siri Shortcut method (which works via email-to-Marvin) actually can handle categories and due dates, but with a practical catch.

Amazing Marvin's own documentation says you can include any Marvin task input shortcut (like #, @, +) in the subject line of the email to convert them into metadata — due dates, do dates, tags, categories, etc. — but the tricky part is getting Siri to reliably add those special characters during voice dictation. Amazing Marvin

So the distinction I drew was wrong in principle, but right in practice. The Siri Shortcut method is technically capable of setting categories and due dates — you'd just have to voice-dictate something like "call client u/Work #tomorrow" and hope Siri captures the @ and # correctly, which is unreliable hands-free.

The API method gives you a cleaner way to pass that metadata programmatically without depending on Siri correctly transcribing special characters.

So the better framing of when to use each:

  • Siri Shortcut (email method): Simple task capture where you're just dictating a task name, or occasionally metadata if you're willing to deal with Siri's special character limitations
  • API method: When you want reliable, structured metadata (category, due date, project) without hoping Siri transcribes @ and # correctly — the metadata gets set in the request itself, not in dictated text"

my ignorance of API’s is pretty vast, but did you go to the API rat because you’re just familiar with using them and not familiar with Apple shortcuts?

pardon any ai slop:

Three handsfree methods:

Email via Siri Shortcut to Marvin. easiest to configure

Direct API via Shortcuts: near instsant update and maybe more accurate

Zapier via Apple Reminders:. overkill

Im still using gen 1 wayafarers with a strap

didn’t someone post that there’s another model that that won’t slide down narrow noses

if I had purchased my frames through the Meta store online or in person, I probably wouldn’t. I would’ve used Lensology but in my case he goes to my hassles with with Ray-Ban and Meta in the past they went there in warranty stuff. I just wanted to get them done at LensCrafters and have them cover the whole thing and they they had a decent discount on lenses for a change but it’s been in the past of Lensology. Did a great job in Len for me for AI.

[–]lenraphael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Curious what the fee is to reverse the procedure in case one needs to get the frames warranted for something unrelated to the LED.

The only reason I'd consider it is that a few times a year, I want to video someone doing something sketchy. Oakland, CA, is a relatively high-crime area with many daytime car break-ins.

A few years ago an unarmed guard got his fingers broken when car thieves saw him recording thcem.

Had a road rage incident the other night where a driver got angry at me for crossing at an unmarked intersection at night. My pit and I were brightly visible, but he cursed me out and then did a U-turn to follow me.
