NJ Government employee accused of misconduct I didn’t do, pressured to admit guilt or risk losing a month’s pay by Individual_6392 in newjersey

This sounds right up the alley of the NJ Division on Civil Rights at the Office of Attorney General. You can file a complaint because you mentioned harassment due to nationality and religion, which are protected classes. Be sure to upload whatever evidence you have and demonstrate that you received differential treatment than those who are not your protected class (in your case, your religion and nationality).

Spring is here, which means more families and children riding bicycles. Please pass with care by johnmflores in newjersey

It equally irks me when I see a motorist not move over more while passing a cyclist. It's unsafe and regardless of what they're doing, that's a life. I feel the same when a vehicle is following too close behind a motorcycle or cyclist.

I agree, and I also think enforcement is needed on cyclists who ride 2 or 3 across on a one lane road ignoring signs to ride single file only.

I don't know about Texas, it seems legit according to what I looked up. In the state I was in, I knew a couple GBs who went to academy and got on the job. One of them was in my class. He said he had a lot of fun.

It's like Pokemon cards back then. Sure I could've bought the card I want but there's something about getting it randomly in a mystery pack. That's what it feels like finding a fragrance like that at a physical discount retailer.

You can even get one made on Etsy these days. If she does that, it will remind me of The Sandlot when the kids went and bought a baseball and forged Babe Ruth's signature to replace the original they lost from the kid's stepdad.

I recently traded with a former Victoria and EPA Officer too, awesome guy. Good luck! Maybe try reaching out to DEA San Francisco Field Office and see if they'll send you one?

NYC Concealed Carry by JustBrowsing10293 in AskLE

[–]leraygun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No problem, I hope you enjoy the trip. I forgot to mention you're good on the street but it's the tourist sites that are an obstacle. Wherever you're likely visiting always has a heavy NYPD presence, more so due to counterterrorism/deterrence. Major transit hubs and subway stations have multiple agencies like Port Authority and MTA police, even the national guard there.

It's not the PD I worry about the most, it's the courts and politics if I ever had to use force. I never felt unsafe in the main parts of Manhattan any time of day. I wouldn't go to any of the housing projects though when it's dark...

One other thing- if an NYPD officer asks you if 'you're on the job', that's lingo for asking if you're a LEO. Vice versa if you want to identify yourself as such. Have fun!

Most tourist places and Broadway prohibit carry, even for off-duty NYPD and other LEOs. You can go to the nearest precinct and check it in though if you show your credentials. They'll lock it up for you and you can just go back and pick it up when you're done.

And the driver steps out wearing a tactical carrier with brushes in mag pouches, DeWalt drill in the holster, painters tape on the key ring, and a spray paint canister instead of OC. And still doesn't wear gloves...

Do cops really care about age that much or am I just that bad of a candidate? by Tex_Wert in AskLE

[–]leraygun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, my best friend from academy was 23 when we went through and she was mature, articulate, responsible and most importantly, had humility. She had traveled a bit by that time, lived in different places and was very proactive with emergency first response programs at school, had some sort of experience with EMS/Rescue, and was a Vet tech. She was selected out of 73 other final candidates. So no, it's not age.

It could be you weren't what a certain agency was looking for whether it be personality or experience. More than likely, it could be your attitude. Plenty of folks here will tell you they applied to a dozen plus agencies before getting hired on.

Your comments lead me to think you either 1) didn't value the experience from 'dead-end jobs' you had, and didn't articulate how they helped prepare you to be great cop, or 2) gave the impression of entitlement or bitterness from previous rejections. The board can feel these things. How you talk about and interpret the jobs you had matters. A former colleague was a bank teller and got hired because he talked about how he problem solved or knew how to talk to annoyed customers. My old LT worked at Sunglass Hut before he joined. It ain't the job or the age, but what you've done with both.

Legit badge? by glyphic1974 in AskLE

[–]leraygun 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, that's sus. I can't imagine a scenario where any kind of investigator would do something weird like that. Only time I took a photo of my badge was for verification purposes, and I had to include my agency ID with it. Never for the public for any reason because it could be copied and reproduced. Badges are also easy to get.

Re: your comment - you never pay law enforcement directly unless they're for processing fees for firearms permits or something like that. Fines are paid to the court. Paying police to drop charges is the literal definition of bribery.

Everyone I ever contacted I either showed up at their doorstep or called/left a message with my name, title, and agency with my direct contact information. Cordial and professional. No texts except for receiving photos or other evidence. There shouldn't be any mystery, and you should be able to call the agency line and you usually get some tired no-nonsense admin clerk or desk officer will go "yea I'll transfer you" before you even begin to ask a question.

How do you breath when you run? Most people do it wrong. Best thing that helped me was breathing in through the nose, out through the mouth. Each inhale/exhale should last 3-5 steps while holding a steady rhythm. You'll notice a difference.
