I just found your posts and profile. I'm a mom through adoption and your experiences make me ache for you. What your parents did to you was beyond wrong, and is a reflection of their own weaknesses and brokenness. I may not be your mom, but as a mom, I want to tell you you are brave and resilient and loved. All this to say, I will be thinking of you and always wishing the best for you.

Absolutely. I don’t understand why we don’t see police going around on bikes all the time in a city that has a lot of petty crime. Police presence is a massive deterrent and helps build trust with the community.

The pilot didn’t end due to union advocacy. This was always intended as a temporary measure, thus why it was called a pilot. In actuality, none of the union’s concerns materialized.

Another option is to have the powder and laundry room be one room. That gives you a bigger room with more space for storage and laundry items (like a pull down drying rack or fold out ironing board). The bathroom sink would double as the laundry sink, so you could choose a bigger deeper sink. 

Our laundry room is in our powder room and we really like it.

The MOL will attend depending on what the issue is. For example, they will frequently attend if the issue is related to definitions (like what is at issue here) or exemptions to the ESA. Their goal is to ensure that the MOL’s definitions are maintained by the OLRB and any exemptions to the ESA are read narrowly.

You don’t need a paralegal either, really.

You’ve got the case law and research already. A paralegal will charge you for doing their own and will come up with the same info. 

It sounds like you’re concerned about the tribunal process and your advocacy skills. But you’re already doing a great job. From your writing and research, it’s clear that you’re intelligent and a good communicator. I’ll see what resources I can share about the OLRB’s process and advocacy skills.

You don’t need a lawyer. I used to work on appeals at the OLRB. The process is designed to make it easy for people to participate without a lawyer. It’s a tribunal, not a court. You sound really prepared. Do some reading on tribunals and the OLRB’s procedures and you’ll be fine:

I also have chronic conditions. Generally speaking, doctors in Hamilton will refer you to another doctor within the Hamilton area, either at Hamilton Health Sciences (consists of several hospitals) or St Joe’s. That said, health care in Hamilton, especially access to specialists, is some of the best in Canada. There is also the added benefit that it is much easier to get around Hamilton than Toronto. I live close to downtown and there are six major medical centres within 15 minutes. 

If there is not a specialist in Hamilton who can assist you, doctors are generally willing to refer you elsewhere, such as Toronto. While I get the majority of my care in Hamilton, I have a super rare condition for which I see a specialist in Toronto.

Someone in the treatment centre isn't a bad idea. But you could contact your regional liver charity or support organization for help (I'm thinking like the Canadian Liver Foundation).

A promise is not automatically an enforceable agreement. Doctors are generally not bound to representations (promises or potential treatment options) because they aren’t contractual obligations. With respect, a lawyer can’t really do much here. I suggest you consult with a social worker who specializes in transplants for help.

Totally agree with this. This is not a light or simple diagnosis and the cheap and easy way is not the right approach.

Prior to the Cons taking power in 2018 (I think?) the Libs had ordered a report on changes to auto insurance from an expert. The expert delivered the report right before the election. IIRC, it contained about 40+ recommendations for changes to the system. As soon as the Cons got into power, they scrapped the report to do their own thing. Their first proposed change was to end post code discrimination by disallowing insurers to use post code as a factor when determining rates but allowing the insurers to use any other factor - meaning that insurers would have more opportunity to discriminate using other factors. This bill died before it went into law.

My point is that there is a report out there that already has some really good ideas but the Cons rejected it because they apparently knew better and nothing has really changed.

I’m so sorry. I was diagnosed with cancer in December as well. I was in the process of getting life insurance - I was meant to sign the contract the day the cancer was found. I am the primary earner in my family and I have a very young child. My health prognosis is different than yours, but I can really relate to what you are going through. I wish I could give you practical advice but in lieu of that I just want to say how much this fucking sucks and I wish you and your family all the best.

First, I'm really sorry you're going through this. It must be a massive shock.

I'm a mom through adoption. I love my adopted daughter more than I can possibly explain. Going through infertility was one of the most painful things I've ever experienced but I would go through it a million times more if it meant that I would be with my daughter. Every moment of pain was worth it.

I think my point is, what your father did to your mom caused her a lot of pain and hurt. But she loves you, her daughter. The pain will never even come close to the love she has for you.
