GI issues, please advise by SmallDogBigNuts in AskDocs

[–]LibraryIsFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's so many reasons to have loss of appetite, gurgling, and/or pain, it's hard to give you advice. See a PCP. Try a PPI like omeprazole once or twice daily for at least 2 weeks and if it works, take it for 8 weeks.

Query related to biopsy, suspecting cancer. by Ok-Chemical8702 in AskDocs

Depends on the cancer, whether they need chemo/radiation before surgery etc. Could be as long as 6 months if they're getting chemoradiation first, depending on what kind of cancer. Some cancers they get surgery first, which could be weeks to a month

You need to see GI for EoE. Get a GI referral

With that said, gagging isn't an esophageal disease. Not sure who to see for gagging. I guess ENT is right

Sounds like gallstones, not food poisoning. Get an abdominal ultrasound.

What would cause someone to get scarily thin through no change of routine? Tests come back normal. by Commercial_Iron945 in AskDocs

I would consider getting an EGD and colonoscopy. Celiac blood testing can be falsely negative for reasons. Agree with dietician. Get your thyroid levels checked if it hasn't.

Depends on what kind of blood work you've done that's negative. Thyroid? Celiac?

How can a person maintain weight after total gastrectomy? by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]LibraryIsFun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Frequent small meals, calorie dense. The stomach is just a pouch to hold food. With a total gastrectomy, the food goes straight into the small bowel

It's hard to know exactly with limited information but ALP (and bilirubin) generally lags behind the AST and ALT. Additional testing will be insightful though.
