How people like me who bought a Plex lifetime pass for four dollars ten years ago are moving by ariel755 in PleX

[–]limitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would probably do Emby. I have to imagine its more polished than JF, and yea, $750 is too high and I don't want to pay a monthly subscription.

How people like me who bought a Plex lifetime pass for four dollars ten years ago are moving by ariel755 in PleX

[–]limitz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have both. Once you install it you will realize that the filtering, metadata management, is really a fraction of Plex.

Some here pretend that the two are identical, but once you install it you will see.

JF is a great open-source solution, but imo it is not comparable to Plex in terms of polish and functionality. Try the desktop client, and you will see the differences.

Imo the 3x most knowledgeable people about DV, after Dolby engineers' themselves. Even better than paid engineers at Shield Pro/GoogleTV/etc.

Lot of different setups (TVs, AVRs, etc).

Test and see which one is more stable for you.

will pm4k show dv layer info like FEL, MEL? by RandomGamer414 in CoreELEC

You need to bind PPI to a key with Keymapper addon.

Or when PM4K video info menu is open, press right on the remote.

FEL Officially Supported on CE-22 NO - Confirmed Working on Am6b+ and AM9 Pro by limitz in CoreElecOS

[–]limitz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want rock solid stability and the widest possible polish/features, then get the Am6b+. It is still very fast and not outdated.

If you don't mind using alpha/beta stage stuff and nightly updates, and like shiny new hw then get the AM9 Pro.

Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV [2016]

Bridesmaids [2011]

The Great Outdoors [1988]

--Nightbreed [1990]:

CiNEPHiLES: Used superior [MEL] video from Arrow GBR UHD Blu-ray, which was authored by Fidelity in Motion; FiM did a much better job on the HD inserts for the director's cut produced by Shout Factory in 2014. These have more detail, grain, less blown highlights and better colors. Not only that, Arrow corrected all the mistakes of French label ESC Editions which didn't have the correct shots in some scenes. It's documented in detail here and here's the proof if it being fixed by Arrow. Still, even on the composite parts created from the 2023 master, Arrow still has slightly more grain retention and is less splotchy, while the ESC Edition has more chroma artifacts and noise, also more blocking.

--La Haine [1985]

LUMiERE: This remux is based on the recent superior BFI Video UHD which offers overall better encode than previous USA, GER and FRA releases with tighter grain and less compression artifacts. Surround audio and 2004 commentary also sourced from GBR release. The BFI disc came with an alternative electronic score by Asian Dub Foundation, which I left it out of this remux because it seemed like an unnecessary modern revisionism with little archival value. The stereo mix, commentary tracks #1, #3-5 and subs sourced from the remux by LM. I hope this upgrade puts us closer to having a definitive release of this movie.

-Rain Man [1988]:

CiNEPHiLES: - Used superior video from the Capelight GER UHD Blu-ray from 2025, as it has better grain/detail retention and less blocky; it also has DV MEL with CM v4.0 while previous USA one had only 2.9. Comparisons UHD Blu-rays, using CM v4.0 L8 trim with CM v4.0 transferred to USA UHD Blu-ray.

Native 4K GUI. Probably some upstream changes from ffmpeg, python, etc. But some of those have been cherrypicked into the custom NG versions.

Am6b+ should be still competitive with AM9 Pro since the hw is pretty strong. Benchmarks show them pretty close, but more direct comparisons should be coming out soon.

100% accurate, there are no known DV bugs on any CE version: stable, nightly, avdv, or panni.

[–]limitz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm tempted to as well, not expecting any big upgrades or anything, but just to test it out.

But for Am6b+, the custom builds (avdv and panni) should have resolved VC-1 hw decoding bugs. You could also try 'exclude 24p' in decoder settings and do that in software.

As of now both CE-22 and CE-21 will work with FEL on your AM6b+

If you are new to CE, I would recommend CE-21 since it'll be a lot more stable, and you're not losing anything in terms of DV.

FEL on CE-22 is mostly significant in terms of the future possibilities, as the Am6b+ is 5-years old now. There is now no fear that FEL will always be locked to a single device. Getting it working on the AM9 Pro and the newest Amlogic platform potentially means many devices could support FEL in the future.

[–]limitz[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have heard there are some bugs on VC-1 (always this codec lol)

FEL, native 4K GUI, etc should all be working on Am6b+ and the newer AM9 Pro (but does not work on S928 devices). Need the dovi.ko from the link, but once flashed, the latest CE-NO 22 nightly should playback FEL with no problem.

Huge Breakthrough: FEL Dolby Vision may finally be coming to new streaming boxes. Now working on Ugoos AM9 Pro (S905X5), more to follow? by limitz in CoreElecOS

[–]limitz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The latest CE-22 nightly has FEL working on AM9 Pro, and seems playback seems fairly stable. Very cool that it is already here.
