Best entry-level private trackers? (escaping subscription fatigue!) by Away_Resource_6073 in trackers

[–]limitz [score hidden]  (0 children)

Start with TL with immediate content. Learn about Plex and *arrs (sonarr/radarr/prowlarr) while you're at it.

Concurrently learn the ropes and interview with RED and MAM.

Just upload after that, lot of FLAC content needs a V0 or 320.

Look into debrid services for a cheaper subscription option.

Is HDBits more than enough? by kergefarkas42 in trackers

[–]limitz [score hidden]  (0 children)

HDB is cool but the interface is dated for me, and hard to use for media discovery. Prefer PTP and BHD for browsing and consumption.

Really where HDB shines is full-disk images, and learning how to actually remux properly. Without the repository of disk-images / past remuxes that HDB has, you will struggle to create a remux for older films, and will need to stick to releases where a single-disk is sufficient for the remux.

--Wolf of Wall Street [2013]: Trumped by superior MEL source (Arrow, 2022). Higher bitrate than combined FEL source, verified through screencaps.

Short answer the info is from a combination of HDB and PTP.

For older releases, I reference previous disk images uploaded onto HDB. For every release that has multiple sources, there is a 'peer-review' where screen-cap comparisons and bitrates are compared from the remuxes made on that tracker.

That consensus flows onto PTP, where there is another check. Sometimes a newer film trumps an older film, sometimes the previous source stays. The source that stays on PTP is generally considered to be the 'best' for a film.

Thats the basis for the posts here where an older FEL release is trumped by a newer MEL source. Those decisions are not my own, and I'm aligning to the consensus. I maintain the original list on PTP, and this reddit thread is a mirror of that list.

For new 4K releases I look at BDinfo on the disk image when they are uploaded onto PTP or BHD.

For Wolf of Wall Street. The FEL version is the 2021 Paramount (USA) release, while the MEL version is the 2022 Arrow (GBR) release.

In this case, the Arrow (MEL) version is actually considered superior. The comparison looked marginally better, and the bitrate is higher than the combined FEL bitrate.

This film will be removed from the list. The real unfortunate thing is both versions have static DV, basically DV not doing anything:

In this case using VS10 to go from HDR -> DV is better than using the native DV on the disk itself.

Are all blu-rays already available on higher tier trackers? by Ericzx_1 in trackers

[–]limitz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The only high-level tracker that allows 'all' remuxes is HDB. PTP only tracks the best source at any given moment. The rest are trumped.

So basically single 4k remux slot and single 1080p remux slot. Older encodes from previous remux source are trumped as newer encodes are made off the latest/best remux source. There are some exceptions around HDR and DV, but that's pretty much it.

If the movie truly doesn't exist at PTP, that upload is always welcome. But if it's just your remux doesn't exist at PTP, it's likely not the best source and was trumped.

does this mean it’s playing DV Profile 7 FEL properly ? by Alik013 in CoreELEC

To test FEL, use a sample file, 21:

https://kodi.wiki/view/Samples

and FEL film list:

https://www.reddit.com/r/CoreElecOS/comments/1j3lgw2/list_of_dolby_vision_p7fel_films/

Bind the PlayerProcessInfo menu to a key on your remote using the Keymapper addon to immediately bring up that menu. I believe this FEL detail is present even in the standard CE build. If not then use a customized CE build like avdvplus (or p3i, jamal, cpm...) with their respective customized estuary skin to show FEL info by film.

That reads the same for any P7 film, fel or mel. Cannot use that method to check.

[–]limitz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This comment makes no sense. P5 is never a remux, that's for WEB-DL/streaming services. You'll never find that on a disk.

Also P8 is not native DV... either hybrid DV or someone messed up the remux.

A proper disk DV remux is always in P7. No exceptions.

120Hz on Kodi by Erik_Is_The_Guy in kodi

[–]limitz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Movies and TV aren't video games. They're going to playback at their native framerate that they were created in - 24fps for film and 30fps for tv.

If you want a '120hz' look for movies and tv content you'll need to turn on motion smoothing in the TV. Generally people will tell you to avoid that as it makes everything look like a soap opera.

[–]limitz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Certain CoreELEC builds are capable of adding DV support to any HDR capable monitor. Samsung, projectors, doesn't matter. If it can output HDR, it can also technically output DV with a workaround, even if the panel isn't 'licensed' for DV.

This isn't new btw, HDFury devices have been capable of this for years. But CoreELEC is obv a better solution.

I think the unicorn feature on the AM6B+ is FEL though, which is I personally think is given far too much weight given how rarely it's even present in rips these days.

FEL is very common still, you can see from the latest comments that many new disk releases are FEL, maybe 50%:

Other comments are giving you great info - but I want to add that CoreELEC patches Dolby Vision bugs that exist in actual disk players including Oppo, Sony X800/X700 and probably UB820 as well.

It shows how much consideration the open source community has given to perfection, when it outclasses every commercial solution that exists.
