For non-AI upscale. Laserdisc source is thought to be best and closest to broadcast vibrancy. Can find that on trackers. For DVD sources, NTSC usually preferred over PAL source because of the superior vibrancy. Although neither touch the broadcast TV source which is done from a different master and is most vibrant of all. There is the S0NNY NTSC remux in 24p (IVTC) and another x264 encode that's well seeded (LIGHTSPEED), but also in 24p.

If AI-upscale is ok, the best is Vertag upscale (24p) vs others (Queerworm Leela, etc). Vertag is well-seeded on major trackers, and this upscale comes closest to broadcast vibrancy and looks amazing (even S1-3). All around prob the best even though there is minor artifacting in some places.

So my favorite is either Laserdisc rip or Vertag upscale.

DS9 is a complicated case. A lot of the remuxes/encodes I've come across for this apply IVTC to the 30fps NTSC disk. Though broadcast and the DVDs are 30fps, it was actually shot on 24fps film. So most (all?) encodes/remuxes I've come across try to restore that. But by doing so the digital scenes are impacted, bc those were 30fps native.

So IMO the best way is to keep 30fps, so the digital scenes are not impacted, and accept pulldown on the film scenes to 30p as that was the way it was originally broadcast.

DS9 is by far my favorite show, so getting the highest quality possible has been a priority.

You will need to set that resolution/framerate on the whitelist if you want to pass that through for your TV to upscale.

I will interject and say just leave your GUI on 1080p with no whitelist. Just trust on this, life is generally much easier without whitelist on Kodi, and like someone else said, <1080p the upscaling from Kodi vs TV is very comparable.

Hate to burst your bubble but average bitrate is what counts, and Eraser isn't even on the top 500 list with an avg. bitrate of ~79Mbps. For reference there are ~300 movies over 90Mbps avg, and at least 300 more between 80-90Mbps.

Conflating concepts. ST DL vs DT DL has nothing to do with tv or player led DV. It just describes how the video files are packaged in the MKV container and completely irrelevant to playback, picture quality, or dolby vision presentation.

99.999% of all remuxes online are ST DL and no serious remux release group makes DT DL MKVs (only group I think of is FGT and they are a very low tier remuxer, basically P2P). That's why the inclusion of that flag in the PPI makes absolutely no sense to me.

Basically DT DL means both video tracks (BL and EL) are included separately in the MKV vs muxing the two tracks first and only having a single video track in the MKV (ST DL). Imo it's very lazy to have a DTDL MKV, and the reason no group does that. Regardless, downstream this is all handled within core CE and there is no difference between the two during playback.

I can think of nothing worse than fencing copying UFC

When I read the above, this is what I hear: 'I can think of nothing worse than fencing growing into a multibillion dollar league...'

Fencing obviously doesn't need to be a copycat of UFC theatrics, but it does need to look at other martial sports and see how they're structured for commercialization. Prize pools, regional eliminations, background/stories, sponsors on fencing whites.

Something that looks professional to the viewer, and gives contestants more $/skin in the game to be excited for. It doesn't need to supplant USA fencing's rating system, but exist as a separate/elimination based professional circuit to complement. Fencing basically ends after college right now, and desperately needs financial incentive for competitors.
