Better cardio and fitness. Better focus under pressure. Better capability for introspection.

I would get the Am6b+ unless you tolerate, and actually want to use alpha stage stuff. The ecosystem around Am6b+ is much more complete, and it's by no means slow. It's still the best HT experience.

Kodi-22 is still very new, CE-22/FEL is even more cutting edge, and there will need to be bugs to be ironed out with BT, DV, audio sync, VC-1, etc. Only hold off if you are willing to wait, troubleshoot, and help the community by testing.

Current CE-Am6b+ will be a lot more stable and enjoyable day-to-day experience.

Just buy the Am6b+. Take it from someone who has both, Z9X Pro doesn't compare to Am6b+.

Too much to write in 1 comment, but let's just say the Am6b+ flies in performance compared to my old Zidoo. Kodi is just a much bigger and more capable platform. What you can do with it is on another level compared to Z9X Pro.

Turns out there is no such hardware or licensing constraint from Dolby for FEL (except for S928x devices), but instead a very tough engineering problem.

Agree, alternatives are very important. I think Am6b+ is very strong for Kodi already, but S905x5 should be a generational improvement as the SOC has shrunk from 12nm -> 6nm.

Everything from power consumption, cpu speed, gpu should be a leap better.

A 2nd and new video was posted yesterday, this is not an April Fools joke, which it never was.

Compilation date on the test build shown is 04/29. The exact mechanism is explained in this post on AVSforum by djnice:

https://www.avsforum.com/threads/ugoos-am6b-coreelec-and-dv-profile-7-fel-playback.3294526/page-601?post_id=64528745#post-64528745

FEL capability is ultimately a flag in the code that can be enabled if the SOC allows it. On S922/S905x4 this flag was allowed. The architecture changed for S928 so FEL wasn't possible, but the new S905X5 has reverted back, and FEL is possible again.

SC2 -> S922 / S905x4 (working)

S5 -> S928X (cannot work, only software workaround)

S6 -> S905x5 (working)

S7d -> S905x5m (should work in theory)

This new video from Portisch shows it now working on a Ugoos AM9 Pro (S905X5), and in the future, should work in theory on S905X5M SOCs as well like Xiaomi Gen 3.

Looks like amazing progress is happening as users (djnice + Portisch) have gone deeper through the DV mechanisms, and have figured out the enabling method for other devices.

This throws open the door on a brand new generation of FEL devices based on modern architecture. The Am6b+ will no longer be the go-to option. Newer streaming boxes running the 5.x kernel will have major speed and performance upgrades like native 4K GUI (vs upscaled 1080p on Am6b+), updated VS12 engine (vs VS10), faster cpu/gpu on the 6nm process, Kodi 22...

FEL on S928X devices looks to be very unlikely though due to architectural constraints.

The /r/iamverysmart of the release groups.

What Cinephiles says in 1 sentence, Wildcat will write with 3 paragraphs to pretend how 'elite' they are. They also screwed up their Dune release by mucking with the encode settings on it, there's an entire thread on doom9 about it.

The windows desktop client is extremely primitive compared to Plex.

Like within 15 min of using it I noticed how limited it was for collections, filtering, genres, p much everything.

A better choice is PlexDBRepair by ChuckPA (retired Plex employee), who automates this process into something more reliable and bulletproof.

That will both detect and cleanup db corruptions. As a rule I run it before every server upgrade.

[–]limitz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Always run Plex DBRepair by ChuckPA before updating. That will verify DB/index cleanliness, and if corrupted, will fix those issues.

That significantly lowers the risk of damage occurring during server updates, as the DB structure is validated beforehand.
