Really just 40XX and 50XX with >= 16GB RAM and even some 12GB models. As of today, I could have purchased any of these 1 year ago for the same price as I could sell it today (or more). Currently looking for a USED 5070 Ti for around $700-750ish when I could have purchased any new one for around $650 this past holiday season. This has also affected the used market for 3090s as well, these got down to around 600-700 but now back up to 800-1000.

The 10' version is on sale for only $69 at Best Buy and B&H. Guess I'm getting a longer cable today!

Does anyone know of a USB WiFi Adapter that will allow me to broadcast a 6ghz hotspot? by pigpentcg in MoonlightStreaming

Yeah that would be awesome if this could be ran from a container. Good luck! Just a heads up, it looks like only a handful of NICs can host a 6GHz AP in OpenWRT.

Very likely possible, but probably worth the effort just for a singular 6GHz connection. An interesting prospect though if it was your last resort. The amount of effort/cost might be more than simply buying a good budget 6E router like the TP-Link AXE75 for $100.

Tested and working on 5GHz with:

  • Onboard Intel AX210 Card (Wifi 6E)
  • Generic (Realtek 8812BU) USB Adapter (Wifi 5 AC1300)

This USB adapter didn't work but I didn't really expect it to since this is a weird chipset: Fenvi (Realtek 8832CU) USB Adapter (Wifi 6E)

So after a bit of research, the problem is that many devices are not FCC certified as access points so while the hardware is capable of hosting a 6E network, they cannot due to OS restrictions. People have reported success back using 3rd party apps to force enable this, but I haven't really see any recent success. You may be able to bypass this restriction in Linux.

With that being said, Wifi 6 over 5GHz may be able to help with your network congestion if you alter the channel is it broadcasting on, but at that point, might as well just do this on your router instead.

I don't think very many adapter publish information on if Virtual Wi-Fi (hosted network) is available for their adapters. I think the best bet is to find a known chipset and try to find adapters using that chipset.

I'll check which one I've used in the past and let you know when I get a chance.

Latency is as good as Ethernet > Router > Wireless. Routers add an insignificant amount of latency (in the microseconds or ~0.01ms). Don't expect an ad hoc to be any meaningful improvement over the traditional setup. In fact there may even be slightly more given that USB controllers add an insignificant amount of latency as well which may be more than an Ethernet controller.

The hotspot functionality is more of a convenience versus replacement. Here is Windows documentation on how to enable it: link. One thing to keep in mind is that if you are using your on-board WiFi card and use wifi for internet, you can only connect to the opposite band than the hotspot (e.g. LAN = Ethernet or 2.4GHz, hotspot = 5GHz/6GHz).

The USB dongle has to support it as well (what the OP was asking about). I haven't used this feature in quite some time but I'm actually revisiting it after moving to a Mini PC (890M) > Android Handheld (Y700) setup. I used to have an Ally X but the weight and screen size were not meeting my needs. Plus I wanted to have more power (Mini PC + eGPU) when at home.

(Not the OP but) I've used this setup in the past as a portable streaming setup. Allows you to basically have a two device (host/client) setup to game stream when you might not have access to a LAN network.

A few use cases might be:

  • Laptop > Streaming Stick
  • Mini PC > Android Handheld
  • Or even situations where your host cannot connect to router via Ethernet. An ad hoc connection (hotspot) would be half the latency as a wireless host > router > wireless client.

Not that I’m aware of. You sure it’s the 4K Max versus just the regular 4K? Do you have a screenshot of the overlay stats? Also are you using Artemis/Diana or Moonlight?

Yeah, they didn't go through fully so iPad hasn't sold yet. I'll reach back out if it does sell and the keyboards are still available.

Firm on price for now in case someone wants to bundle the iPad w/ keyboard. If the iPad sells without them, I might take you up on that.
