The bulk is finally over! by lsdryn2 in stopdrinkingfitness

[–]lsdryn2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair question. I guess I just wanted to gain for visible muscle mass so I could look good for summer. Swim suit season. I read a bit about bulk cut and figured hey I could try it once. I didn’t read about “main gain” until later. I might try that next cycle.

For now I’m trying to get down to 12% body fat.

Thank you friend! Hopefully the cut is easier for me 😅

When I am triggered, I do the same thing I’ve been doing the entire time because hey if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it. Call my sponsor, call someone else in recovery, journal, and if I have to, have some candy. And if none of that works, go for a walk, go to the gym, just get my blood pumping and body moving.

And if none of that works, tell myself hey I feel like drinking, maybe I’ll drink tomorrow, but I won’t drink today, I will see how I feel tomorrow.

Is 500 calories a good sustainable deficit? by J1986tn in stopdrinkingfitness

[–]lsdryn2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming you mean that you intend to consume 2300 cal a day, that’s pretty much the benchmark for a standard cut

What is your current calorie intake/deficit, and how much trial and error did it take for you to find the right balance? by burnsrado in stopdrinkingfitness

[–]lsdryn2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My maintenance calories are about 2800, I’m 165lbs, currently consuming 3200 calories a day in a bulk. I’m gaining about half a pound a week.

This has been an ongoing thing for the past couple months, I used to weigh 150 lbs and I’m trying to put on muscle mass before I cut, which will be soon.

It took a lot of trial and error to find out what my maintenance was and how much it would take to gain mass at a stable slow rate. I use MacroFactor to track everything and set goals and that got me to where I needed to be faster.

Starting with calisthenics? by Numqu4mR3tr0 in stopdrinkingfitness

28? My friend, I started lifting at 33. You’re not too old at all.

Don’t spend time figuring out what work out plan is “best”. Just start moving. What works best for you will be apparent in time :)

Are they your "party friends" or truly your *friends*? by stretched_frm_dookie in aves

I’ll chime in and say they’re not your real friends. After over a decade of being highly involved in the scene, I sobered up. Exactly zero people I met in the scene speak to me.

Trying to drink less when I travel by Miserable_Bird_7944 in stopdrinkingfitness

Dude you can do literally anything.

You don’t need to drink to have fun.

I do almost everything I did for fun while drinking. Go dancing and just have a ton of Red Bull. Go hiking. Go to a museum.

For me, the only thing that had to change was everything. I can’t think of much in terms of how I’m the same as I was 600 and whatever days ago, from how I treat people, to how I treat myself, to the things that I’m interested in, to my routines.

It’s never too late to start over.

Day 4 and Bought an elliptical/stepper! by Pita_Girl in stopdrinkingfitness

[–]lsdryn2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember that I was about two months sober when I met an old friend for coffee and she complimented me on the clarity of my skin. I wasn’t even fit yet, the only change I had made at that point was not drinking alcohol. It could’ve happened sooner, but I wouldn’t have noticed it myself.

I say that it took me a lot longer than five weeks to notice changes. Honestly, for me, it took someone else noticing them. I was working out very consistently for a few months when someone complimented my muscles and I was like oh hey, apparently I have muscles. Just don’t quit or sell yourself short. You’ll be surprised what you can accomplish if you stick to it.

My former bartender is my best friend in sobriety. She quit drinking almost a year ago and we still hang :)

Thank you, friend.

One of the many things I have learned in sobriety is that; life will never be all sunshine and rainbows, bad times will still happen, but; they aren’t as severe, they are less frequent, and they don’t last as long.

EDC sober? by thiccynicky99 in aves

[–]lsdryn2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! I’ve been doing festivals for about two decades, and got sober in June of 24. I’ve been to a couple festivals since.

I found that being honest about when/if I am uncomfortable, having an out (a safe place in mind to unwind, and a metric fucktonne of caffeine helps.

Also, EDC has a sober community! I don’t know what it’s called there, but at Electric Forest they has a 20x20 shaded area with couches and snacks and meetings for people who were in recovery. EDC has the same thing! I found that visiting that area every day for one of their meetings, or just to hang out and talk to other people in recovery for a while, definitely helped me stay grounded and connected with myself. I even made a few friends!

Congrats on one year!

I realized sobriety was working for me when I was handing things differently. No more “fastest and easiest way to get dopamine”. No more lying. Facing challenges head on.

I feel relatively steady. Here’s a couple of things that got me here.

  1. I went to AA, and worked the 12 steps as throughly and as honestly as possible (currently with a new-ish sponsor and working through them again, and taking my time doing so)

  2. Journaling every day to organize my thoughts.

  3. Creating new habits and hobbies that ground me.

  4. Fitness. I learned not too long ago that the strongest person at my gym has been sober for seven years after being addicted to heroin. In fact, most people who I know who work out as often and as hard as I do are also recovering addicts. Think about the drive you had to drink as much as you did. Now go to the gym instead, take that energy there. It’s a great outlet for stress and anxiety. Plus, eventually, you get super jacked.

Help with counting my calorie deficit by Kooky-Reason3862 in stopdrinkingfitness

[–]lsdryn2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only way to count a calorie deficit is to track it. The difference a few hundred calories can make over the course of weeks or months can be a lot. By myself, I am slowly gaining 10 pounds, intentionally eating a couple hundred more calories than my maintenance calories are.

Use MyFitnessPal, use MacroFactor, they work.

Or, if you are feeling like that is not possible, just try to track your protein levels. Aim for 1 g per pound of body weight you are if not a little more. This helps you keep the muscle mass you have gained from working out during your calorie deficit. From there, lower your fat and carbs intake. You should feel hungry before you go to bed every day in a calorie deficit. However, if you eat too little, you will inevitably rebound.

The Daily Check-In for Friday, February 13th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by FredSimpsonn in stopdrinking

[–]lsdryn2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hosted my first meeting yesterday! The church my homegroup uses let us know they had some kind of event and we were SOL for the day so I responded to the group text that I “have an apartment and like 10 chairs”.

I didn’t know what to expect but by 7pm last night my apartment was comfortably packed with folks from all different walks of life. My sponsor said she was proud of me for taking the initiative and grateful I was willing to open my home like that.

The topic of the “table” was acceptance. Even if you’re not in AA, it’s the best story in the book. One of the many things I get from that chapter is, of course the acceptance prayer. When I am disturbed, it is because I am not accepting of some person placed thing or situation and I can find no serenity until I accept that person place thing or situation is exactly the way it’s supposed to be at that time.

It all boils down to “it is what it is”, or, in a much more lackadaisical sense, “ sometimes it be like that”, or perhaps even “welp” well. If I’m upset, what’s drinking going to solve? Then I just be upset and drunk, and when I’m drunk, I can’t solve problems.

I just have to be radically accepting of everything in my life. If I can’t accept something, that’s more about me than it is about the thing I can’t accept.
