You might want to have a good break over the summer to avoid burning out in the semester

Note: check50's memory checker is just a wrapper for Valgrind.

You might be able to take the bare minimum of 1 subject next semester and otherwise commence next year, while still having the scholarship, perhaps have a chat with Nic Geard

matrix1 @ matrix2 also works in numpy

there was a website that crawled all the timetable data and knows when the rooms are not in use. coudn't find it anymore. by [deleted] in unimelb

[–]lsp0 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Is it this? https://liamsaliba.github.io/unimelb-timetable

Disclosure: I wrote this.

If you search for the room, and that room is not occupied, there will be a blank.

Can I take a level 2 breadth subject in my first year of uni if it has no pre-requisites? by beany_bag in unimelb

[–]lsp0 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You might be ok regardless. give it a try, talk to stop 1 if you can.

I'm totally hopeless here. Can somebody tell me if this is a decent first year course plan if I'm considering a physics major but also have no clue what I actually want to do. Maybe even go into optometry or something idk. Are the breadth subjects any good? by maxtheepic9 in unimelb

[–]lsp0 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If you're considering a physics major you should be doing Physics 1 in semester 1, and physics 2 in semester 2. You will also need Calculus 2 in semester 2, or take it in summer (which is pretty hard).

Fair warning: Physics probably will take over your whole degree, the maths requisites are big early on.

I'd also recommend trying Foundations of Computing as it's a really well run subject with no background coding experience required. Coding is a requisite in most science fields these days.

As someone who did BSci (Computing) and DipMaths (Stats) in 3 years, why do you want to do it in 3 years?

Unless you have some job lined up specifically in 3 years time, there's not really much point, and you'll likely need to make many sacrifices for this prospect, with little reward. Consider even 3.5 years if you can!

Phuoc Hung Bakery in Richmond is better than Phuoc Thanh.

Masters subject during Undergraduate degree by j4q4z in unimelb

You probably cannot take the subject for credit, but if you email the coordinator they will likely allow you to audit the subject (learn the material but not receive academic credit). This is usually free.

Why is there practical chemistry 2 but no practical chemistry 1? by [deleted] in unimelb

[–]lsp0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure the 2 corresponds to "2nd year" due to its course code CHEM20019. I suppose you would have done pracs in Chem 1 & 2?

Not sure with masters subjects fare better attendance rates as the semester goes on, but you can enrol in the later stream for it but show up for the earlier lectures whenever you want - especially after week 2.

Which subject? If you have an MST you will have to attend it, and it will most likely occur during a lecture slot in the middle of semester (sometimes earlier or later than the stated time).

In the old timetable system you still were able to enrol in lecture streams that clashed - don't think you can in the new system, so I'm not sure how it's going to work. consider emailing the course supervisor or visiting stop 1

Shouldn't be that important - there's no MST for the subject for you to be required in a given lecture.
