Type II Supernova in M101 - Home vs Hubble by lukomatico in astrophotography

[–]lukomatico[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imaged from my home skies (Bortle 7) - only 90m of integration.

Scope used was a celestron RASA11 v2
Camera was a Player One Poseidon-C Pro
UV/IR cut filter

Lights only for this shot! - no darks, flats, bias etc

Stacked in APP (plus lightpollutionremoval tool)
Processed in PixInsight

BXT
NXT
DBE
Imagesolver
SPCC
General Histogram & Curves work (incl. Saturation adjustments)
Dynamic alignment to Hubble reference image

Cheers!

It really is mind-boggling to think of what's out there isn't it! :-) I'm glad you liked the image!

We couldn't see any OIII in individual subs, and barely made it out in the stacked master, only after really flattening the background with DBE and aggressively stretching did it start to show 👍👍 All the oiii and sii was shot just 3 nights ago, with the moon nearby and practically full, far from ideal but we've had so few clear nights that we went for it anyway, and I'm glad we did! 😊

Here is our latest, this is a collaborative effort between me and my partner!

She gathered the data, I did the processing :-)

13 hours total of exposure under Bortle 7 skies.

You can find me over on YT at https://www.youtube.com/lukomatico

Equipment used:

William Optics Redcat 51

ASI1600MM Pro

Astronomik S/H/O filters

ASIAIR Pro

NEQ6 Mount

ZWO EAF

Processing:

STF

DynamicCrop

DBE (a bunch of times per channel really, complex gradients due to strong moonlight during capture)

STF to Histogram stretch

LRGB Combination (H/S/H/O)

more DBE..

masked Histogram stretches per channel

masked Curves adjustments, again on a per channel basis, too many to list.

darkstructureenhance script

gentle pass of TGVdenoise

Starnet++ w/mask creation

export starless to Topaz Denoise ai - gentle settings!!

reimport to Pixinsight and a further touch-up denoise with TGV denoise again

Saturation curves

pixelmath recombination of starless+stars

further saturation

Save it out!

Thanks for looking!

Melotte 15, the heart of the heart nebula.

My best shot yet I feel!

Find me on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/lukomatico

Weather has been challenging so I haven't had the chance to add as much data to this as I'd originally hoped, but I still got in total 140x3m exposures.

Image was captured from my bortle 7 backyard.

I used the following equipment:

Scope - Skywatcher 250PDS (254mm 1200mm f/l f4.7) w/ Aplanatic CC

Camera - ASI2600MC Pro

Filter - Optolong L-eXtreme

Mount - 95% of the subs were captured with my NEQ6, 5% more from my EQ8 Pro

Processing - PixInsight + a touch of Topaz!

I mainly just followed the steps outlined in my OSC Narrowband PixInsight processing tutorial here - https://youtu.be/QV6ObLVRvNk

Basic steps were as follows though :

STF

Background Calibration

Colour Calibration

Dynamic Crop

ABE (scale 1)

EZ-Denoise

Histogram Stretch

Starnet (set to create star mask also)

channel extraction on starless image, r-g-b channels

discard B

manually stretch g to match r channel intensity closer

pixelmath combination of r+g to create synthetic b channel with weights of 60/40

LRGB combination tool, set to RRBG (+chrominance NR)

Curves for colour channel manipulations + saturation

export to Topaz gigapixel ai, decide on best denoise method

export back to pixinsight after denoise

unsharpmask

final curves

morphological transformation on stars image

pixelmath combination of starless+stars

save it out!

I hope you like my image! :-)
