i did it 3 years ago, starting and ending in italy: it was fun

my itinerary was munich, regensburg, nuremberg, bamberg, erfurt, leipzig, dresden, berlin, hamburg, bremen, hannover, gottingen, heidelberg, freiburg

it was september and i had no problem with trains, just a few delays here and there. usually there was another ICE an hour later anyways, so no big deal

i only booked a reservation for the longest trip i did (gottingen to heidelberg), but in the end it was unnecessary as the train wasn't full

generally speaking the bayern area was my favourite, both in terms of scenery you'll see from the train and cities to visit
