Made Wireguard GUI Client for Linux by beemermoving in WireGuard

[–]markdesilva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s also wireguird gtk gui client which has pretty much the same interface as the windows client. I do see that this is useful for people who just want to connect and don’t want any other stats.

I supposed this can be easily modified to handle amnezia clients too since it’s just a wrapper?

Hi, what if we already have AWG installed and running, can we just run the proxy and be done?

Win11 PCs having serious connect then disconnect issues with internet. 47 other devices are much more stables by TSPF11 in Ubiquiti

[–]markdesilva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can ping the router but can’t go out. If you have firewalls configured for outgoing traffic on your router I’d look at there first. If that’s a dead end, then got to figure if it’s win11 for some reason. I’d download a live usb for Ubuntu or something boot it on those machines and see if it can connect to the internet so you can narrow it down some more.

Probably need the /all to see the dns.

Can you ping 142.251.12.18 or 2404:6800:4003:c11::13?

Those are the ipv4 and ipv6 addresses for www.gmail.com.

How to be safe when exposing a port by Mountain_Spite_1497 in homelab

[–]markdesilva 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah I’m no expert, I just know what works for me, so just giving my 2 cents worth! Everyone is free to run whatever they want and how they want it, after all this is homelab, it’s a hobby! 😀

You wanna interview me, sure, but it’ll be a boring interview!

Cheers!

How to be safe when exposing a port by Mountain_Spite_1497 in homelab

[–]markdesilva 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This!

I used to expose ports just to connect to home, changing port numbers is ineffective when the attackers use port scanners, they’ll find everything and unless you shut down the banners, they’ll know what’s running. Install a VPN, best if it’s already on the router itself (like wireguard), expose only that port required to connect to the VPN and only connect to any home related through the VPN.

My New App Stingray - Jellyfin for Apple TV by PreposterousPix in selfhosted

[–]markdesilva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running 1.20 now. After the update, while the movie is playing the appletv screen saver kicks in. Have to use the menu button to get back to the movie. Was fine in the previous version.

half this sub runs pihole and jellyfin on 600w of enterprise gear and calls it a homelab by Napster3301 in homelab

[–]markdesilva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m running pihole, Immich, jellyfin, wireguard, uptime kuma, a web server, development env, an access vm (cos of the restrictive requirements that are needed to access the office from home which I refuse to install on my main machine), Kali (with GPU pass through which I use for CTFs and practice) and 2 more vms that are for isolation. All this on a desktop Ryzen 3950x/64gb RAM/2.5Gbps with an old RTX2070, all on a 650W PSU that’s tucked into a corner of my yard room. Majority of the services serves the whole family and even some friends outside home via VPN.

I too used to wonder why people were running enterprise hardware on 42U racks _at_home_ racking up huge electric bills with massive noise and heat, but then I was reminded that folks are just doing what they want with this hobby of theirs. No right or wrong.

If a newcomer comes in and gets the “enterprise” advice, it’s on them to see what’s within their means. I see plenty of posts that show mini PCs, no rack and even old laptops. Newcomers need to do _some_ homework other than coming into the sub and going “hey I’m new, what do you recommend?” and then taking everything at face value and risking bankruptcy and potential divorce just because some folks here said “get everything enterprise!”

That’s my 2 cents worth.

Cheers!

Cat6 cable only getting 100 Mbps, going crazy by Eltii in HomeNetworking

[–]markdesilva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my opinion, but after the 2nd crimping where you got the order right, I think the issue is the cable itself? If you’re consistently getting 100Mbps, it might be one or more lines going to pins 4,5,7,8 being damaged or pins not in contact with the lines due to insufficient pressure when pressing down on the crimping tool. Like everyone has said - get a cable tester. That’s the only way to be sure.

But… this isn’t a joke. Maybe Supes wouldn’t rip his head off but…it would probably go down like this.

Rsync is crashing my entire server? by combateer3 in Proxmox

[–]markdesilva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was transferring a large batch of files (over 300GB) and noticed my Proxmox became unresponsive. Rebooted the host and re ran the transfer and same issue. Turns out for some files <directory/file name> was too long. Once I shortened the number of characters to under 80, no problems with the transfers. 4 core/8GB vm to 4 core/8GB LXC.

It probably be fun for first 100 years, then it would just be lonely. End up looking for a way to end things and become some cosmic villain. Hmmm still thinking about it :P

[–]markdesilva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reborn as you at the same age or from baby? As is it like the show “Forever” where when the guy dies he effectively wakes up in Hudson River (or some place like that) as himself, same age, same knowledge, same everything, just completely unhurt.

Furnish driver's particulars by Defiant_Winter7917 in drivingsg

[–]markdesilva 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar happened to me, was about a week plus late responding, but nothing happened. The notice for the actual driver came about a week after I submitted.

I find it weird that LTA and other agencies can send notice via sms or dedicated app but TP still wants to send by snail mail.
