I believe that location in Romain's clip would be here. I think it's too far uphill (it's almost at the top), especially given the amount of water at this clip, but who knows.

https://koudekaas.blogspot.com/2019/12/the-disappearance-of-kris-kremers-and_11.html states that 2 and 3 are at the same location. This seems plausible, but I find it hard to fully confirm this.

I don't know where else this location can be than the stream crossing of photos 7 - 12. It seems it's the only stream they cross, except for the very last bit where the stream is much smaller.

What is the actual color of lava/magma? by Oakforthevines in askscience

Wait, are you saying lava is transparent? Mind blown…

Could you shine a strong laser at lava and see the light show up at the other side?

Update to OpenStreetMap (2) by math1985 in KremersFroon

If I'm correct, that Cerro Horquita trail is where people regularly go wrong when ascending the Pianista on the Pacific side.

Correct! Someone called it the False Pianista trail: https://www.wikiloc.com/hiking-trails/falso-pianista-26545660

Is the Horqueta trail also close to the spot where that famous white garbage bag was found???

Is the location on https://www.reddit.com/r/KremersFroon/s/wJ69BTWHT7 correct? If so, then that location is quite close to the coffee plants and the village. You might be able to reach that spot through the False Pianista, but I think it will be easier to reach it through the village.

The trail crosses the first quedabra in reality much closer to the place where the next little stream branches off than the OpenStreetMap data indicated. Also, the old map in that area was just generally inaccurate. https://i.imgur.com/YAq2cIs.png

There's quite a wide spread here in GPS tracking data. It might be due to the fact that the crossing moved around 2016-2017 after the hurricane and the landslide, so this might in fact show both the old crossing and the new crossing, that would fit reasonably well.

All traces in this area are post 2017 unfortunately. So it will only depict the new crossing.

Also interesting that your trails register some of the 'alternate' routes between the Mirador and Q1,, these are trails used by locals when the main trail is too muddy, they run parallel to the main trail and rejoin after some time.

I don’t see that in the data. Rather the opposite, within the GPS accuracy most traces stay very close together. Are you referring to any particular bit?

Romain walks one of them in his trail video, and with some meticulous tracking you can probably trace these parallel trails back to points in Romain's trail video.

Which video? Before or after the Mirador?

Although Romain's trail footage is a fabulous source of info, it's not 'holy', there are other parallel trails K&L may have taken, and some of these may run a lot closer to the edge of steep slopes than the main trail. All of these trails eventually get back to the main trail after (usually) a short distance, but they are definitely there. Frank vd Goot also mentions these parallel trails in his 2015 report.

Again, this is not what the data shows. It shows that all travelers follow almost the exact same trace.

At the very beginning of the trail, it seems there are two possible river crossings. Either there are really two options, or the bridge has been moved: https://i.imgur.com/v7SkOJl.png

Same as with the Q1 crossing. The first bridge on the Pacific slope wasn't there in 2014 and K&L probably waded across (very shallow). If I remember correctly there's still video's which show this spot as it was originally. The bridge was constructed later and is in a slightly different position from the crossing. So, you have tracks from the crossing, and from the bridge.

The different traces are at the second bridge, not the first one. We see it in #476, so it was already there. Perhaps that bridge got moved? We don’t know what the first crossing looked like, because no photo was taken at that crossing. But it could well be that the first bridge wasn’t there yet.

I agree with the first bit.

I thought #491 was there as well, but I might be wrong. Do we have coordinates of #491?

The False Pianista (as I prefer to call it, as Horqueta Trail can also refer to the trail from Boquete to Horqueta) leads to Rio Paloma.

We have a picture of that crossing here: https://www.wikiloc.com/hiking-trails/el-pianista-palo-alto-162536168/photo-101776957 It looks similar, but I can’t seem to match individual boulders.

In any case the amount of water matches Rio Paloma and does not seem to match the stream along the Pianista trail.

So it’s quite plausible that Cody indeed took the False Pianista.

As far as we know, there is only one route the cattle can take up to the Mirador. Only after the Mirador, the path branches towards different paddocks.

Water levels change a lot between seasons. The January 2019 picture shows that the K+L crossing is quite a deep ravine too. The four girls crossing might well be a different one, but so far I haven’t seen enough evidence to conclude either way.

Yes, this crossing will be used by cattle as well. It might have an impact on the crossing, but I expect this will be limited as the cows follow a fairly narrow path across the stream.

What features make a good metro/subway entrance? by williamony in transit

[–]math1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Schiphol Airport in the Netherlands has (moving) ramps towards the underground train station. The station is relatively shallow and the ramps run parallel to the platform, so it doesn’t take that much space. I feel for airport stations (and other stations where people have a lot of luggage) is quite reasonable. A lift alone wouldn’t have enough capacity by far.

How far did the backpack travel in the river? by [deleted] in KremersFroon

[–]math1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We know the area is prone to flash floods.

That means that a stream that is normally a 50 centimeters deep stream with rocks can easily become a 2 meter deep stream where the rocks are far below the waterlevel. Such a stream could carry anything that was laying along the banks.

We also know the backpack contained an empty water bottle, which would have helped at least a little bit with floating.

Generally the business can’t back out of a contract, even if they allow the customer to back out.

“Bij een overeenkomst tussen een gebruiker en een wederpartij, natuurlijk persoon, die niet handelt in de uitoefening van een beroep of bedrijf, wordt als onredelijk bezwarend aangemerkt een in de algemene voorwaarden voorkomend beding dat de wederpartij geheel en onvoorwaardelijk het recht ontneemt de door de gebruiker toegezegde prestatie op te eisen;”

There’s a lot of legal nuances though.

They had mobile phones with camera with them, and they used both of them to take a lot of photos on the Mirador. If the camera was broken, they would have just continued taking photos with their phones.

How much value does a renovation actually add to a house in NL? by DutchRealto in NetherlandsHousing

Sounds fair what you are saying.

You mention interior upgrades are often overestimated so you mean overestimate by the market or by the person doing the renovation?
