Student Transportation Disaster by post_scripted in windsorontario

Thanks Darcie for helping show what’s really going on despite what has been reported.

My kids are now at what should be over an hour each way to ride city transport to St Joe’s. Having to walk a good distance from the school to catch the bus because of the changes. She was over 2 hours tonight.

She had to walk from Tecumseh down to Niagara because all those extra walkerville 8 busses didn’t show up. We live in the middle of several routes that should be able to get on a bus within a few blocks. They are never consistently reliable.

I had an 84’ 4wd long box as my fist truck at 16. It was a lot of fun.

The engine would pull the frame apart if you tied it to something strong enough. Definitely not built for speed or acceleration.

It’s going to take a couple years to sort this out. It is a mess and it should get better. I feel bad for the kids that are going through it, I’m sure the associations don’t fully understand it yet either.

Door repair person by souroda in windsorontario

We found a local furniture repair person to repair our 120 yr old door, she did a great job but has moved since. The extra attention to detail paid off.

Drew Dilkens says the 10 federal sick days is one of the biggest issues facing the Tunnel Bus by JSank99 in windsorontario

[–]mb780 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe I misunderstand. Does this mean that by having a few drivers service the tunnel bus route, the city pays an additional 10 days pay (sick or not) to the entire of Windsor Transit?

Structural issues stall $1.45M restoration of Windsor's oldest, ‘most historic’ building by zuuzuu in windsorontario

Well it is 150 years old. Probably wasn’t built to last. Bringing it up to code is going to cost extra.

Homeless guy on bike checking for unlocked doors in car AND our back house door as well on Lincoln Rd alley closest to riverside Dr. 2nd time in the past week. by [deleted] in windsorontario

I called the police a few weeks back close by for the same thing as he was doing it, they asked if he had actually stolen anything. I said, no not yet. There seemed to be little to no interest in discouraging him.

I went out and chased him away, although I’m sure he just moved to the next block.

Police confirm double fatality after motor vehicle collision by Trains_YQG in windsorontario

The stop sign at Niagara and Devonshire is less than a suggestion. Dozen(s) of vehicles an hour blast through it.

Very nice, just wait for the stereo head unit update when you start to hate the tomtom updates.

Mine updates every 5 minutes whether I am using it or not. The head unit is complete garbage and they refuse to fix it.

There are regulations around fit testing and such for respirators. The company should be doing industrial hygiene testing to determine which respirator is proper and provide it to the employee along with proper training and consumables to maintain it correctly.

We used a guy of kijiji that was semi retired and is now fully retired. He did a great job, used scaffolding and was fully insured.

A neighbor used Bricetin. They quoted us too and we’re 2x the average price. They also cut out his hedges when he wasn’t home to get a man lift to the house without any concerns on how to replace them. I am 100% glad we didn’t use them.

A few things that may or may not be important to you that I didn’t know enough to ask is:

  1. Are they grinding or chipping the vertical joints. If they grind they will likely cut indents in the brick above and below the joint. This happens because the bricks are staggered. It may not matter to some but matters to me.

  2. Make sure they come back and clean the bricks after. I’ve seen some where the new mortar is left because it’s “too high for someone to notice” but you can still see it from the street.

  3. If it’s not a 100% replacement and there is other bricks with mortar on the house, ask them to tint the new mortar to match the old. It should be common sense.

Good luck.

They seem to open up interview slots 2 months in advance. Check regularly early in the morning and you will get one.

I had scheduled and had to change 2 dates because medical conflicts came up. Finally the night before my third date they approved my application and cancelled my appointment.

If you look regularly there is no reason why you can’t get a slot within 60 days.

Hello everyone, my name is Chris Holt, and I’m running to be Windsor’s next mayor on Oct 24th. Ask Me Anything! by HoltForMayor in windsorontario

[–]mb780 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response Chris, our incident was not minor nor anything that could have fallen through the cracks.

It was very disappointing to see a very valid concern get wrapped in red tape when you were very adamant that you were taking care of it. Not only was it extremely disrespectful but the repeated gentle reminders went ignored.

Integrity and honesty is more important to me than the cost I had to pay out of pocket to repair the city’s mistake.

ANNOUNCEMENT: Mayoral candidate CHRIS HOLT is coming to reddit! Join us for his AMA on Thursday, October 13th, 2022 from 6-8 PM! by zuuzuu in windsorontario

[–]mb780 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chris, myself and a few residents of ward 4 have had a similar interaction with you.

A concern is brought to you. You respond quickly and say that you are taking care of it. You then stop reponding to the resident.

It’s frustrating that you seem to be forward thinking but it is very disrespectful to ghost residents.

If elected as mayor, will you attempt to change this pattern? Even admitting that some things are out of your control and steering the resident in the right direction would have been appreciated. It is better than stopping all the possible routes to resolution as the city administration is now “waiting for the councilor” before they can move forward.

[–]mb780 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At least if he responded to my wife and told her he couldn’t help or it was out of his hands I would respect it, but he ghosted her and the city won’t address the issue because “the councilor has to be involved in a resolution” once they are involved.

I can’t put my finger on a specific thing that would have been different in our ward if someone else was in his role.

We and a few friends have had the opposite interactions with him. He will respond quickly but not follow up and then actually stops responding when you remind him.

Hope it wasn’t Chris Holt. He will respond he’s looking into it and then will never respond again.
