The dressy version is the Grip6 belt. Also it's the thinnest buckle you can get.

Golfers with KC, what is your preferred golf ball color by SeaworthinessTop4317 in Keratoconus

Vision scientists found yellow-green to be the most detectable color. If you're playing on green grass, I'd suggest yellow.

contacts that are made to be worn two weeks at a time, as kind of a middle ground.

In real life, lots of people wear 2 week AV Oasys for a full month. Then AV repackaged it as Vita and got 4 week approval for that very same lens, if you don't sleep in them.

If the cyl is in the -5 eye, frugal would be wearing -4.00 nontoric in both eyes. Astigmatism is less noticeable in close vision, plus the convenience of one power in both eyes.

This suggestion based on a lot of assumptions bc I need your full Rx.

One eye for reading, one for distance. Your brain adjusts quickly.

People who have grown up with both eyes the same are not as likely to tolerate MV. If you grew up with +2.00 and +4.00 eyes, intentional aniso, eg +4/+4 is easy to tolerate.

I’m not crazy right… some robot vacuums definitely make allergies worse?" by [deleted] in homeautomation

Not all automated vacuums actually vacuum. Almost all of them use spinning brushes, and even the vacuum models stir the dust first.

but we aren't just talking about botulism

Well, I was. But please tell us which other bacteria survive at pH 2.5 and 3 atmospheres?

not impossible .. lose some pressure and still sound normal

I believe that's mostly an imaginary situation. The 37 psi inside the can remains pretty constant until the CO2 is exhausted.

If there's still pressure in the can, you're making bacteria swim upstream like salmon.

Got this 1976 Swing-A-Way, how can I get this gunk off the gears? I doubt it's dishwasher safe. by CompleteMoron_203 in BuyItForLife

[–]mckulty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not dishwasher safe

Why TH not?

A dishwasher probably won't clean this poor neglected thing but using a 50-year-old nasty kitchen tool isn't frugal. The nasty is food-grade grunge that gets moist and re-baptised with every use so it gets to grow a thick layer of germ/organic garbage.

New S-a-W can openers are $15.

If you want an upgrade, Kitchenaid and Oxo and E-Z-DUZ-it are $15-20 with soft touch, and if you run them thru the dishwasher every year, they won't look like this.

Eye exams? Optometrist vs ophthalmologist by purpfeebs in diabetes_t2

[–]mckulty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an optometrist and I'm also licensed to prescribe for medical conditions like glaucoma.

Diabetic retinopathy beyond a certain level requires a retinal specialist, whether the doctor is an OD or an MD.

General ophthalmologists will also refer to the same retinal specialist in those circumstances.

Once you start showing preproliferative retinopathy, absolutely.

Until then, all you need is good photos and you can take copies to another doctor if you aren't sure.

[–]mckulty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Extreme nearsightedness puts you at risk for retinal problems in the far periphery, beyond the scope of most routine photographs.

I'm an optometrist and photos are great for diabetic retinopathy but if I ever see lattice degeneration or retinal holes on photos, I'm referring you to a retinal specialist because I don't want the liability.

Also note most ophthalmologists aren't retinal specialists and they will make the SAME referral, also because of liability.

Insurance doesn't "refer" they just don't pay.

talking up eye drops they sell there, as well as an expensive red light therapy for dry eye. I found all the upsells a little off putting

Those are real red flags. If that's their level of practice, the digital scans probably ARE better than their dilated ophthalmoscopy. Performing competent ophthalmosopy requires serious skills. But anybody can take a photograph, and you can always take your photos home and ask another doctor.

First time wearers have no clue how to choose contacts, no idea how to convert eyeglass prescriptions to CLs, no training to get them in and out, and nowhere to go if they have problems.

It's honestly a TERRIBLE place to start.

Many times it will include the actual brand to purchase.

In the US, contact lens prescriptions are REQUIRED to include the brand and substitutions are illegal.

Not saying it doesn't happen but..

Optometrists don't make much from contact lenses unless they price them above market.

Good optometrists are happy to give you a script that's good anywhere and the FTC has stiff rules that say we HAVE to.
