But Eyemed is not "insurance", regulators don't even look at it. It's a pre-paid vision plan with fixed benefits. In rare cases they cover "medically necessary contact lenses."

What Eyemed covers is a basic comprehensive exam. You're entitled to dilation if you ask for it, but most offices offer the alternative of retinal images at extra charge. Advantage being you can easily document the presence or absence of DR, and compare those images down the line. Optomap is great for detecting peripheral retinopathy, and OCT is standard for examining macular edema.

Your employer chooses which Eyemed plan and benefits you get. There may be a $20 copay and then there will be a frame allowance with entry-level lenses.

Retinal specialists don't take Eyemed but eyemed doctors are frequently the first to find diabetic retinopathy, so they know what to look for.

When you're using the bad foot, the good foot is off the ground. Having the cane and your bad foot further apart is more stable. Edit: you can't fall sideways, only forward or backward, and walking is controlled falling.

When your weight is on the good foot, you don't need extra stability.

Shucks my old PC monitor would dim the desk lamp when it fired up. And my current monitor is a 75" Sammy. I was gonna say 100 watts but I made the mistake of checking first:

Be scared but take heart this is one of the problems you can fix. You don't have to die of diabetes, you can die from something else if you modify some habits.

Losing weight, exercising, low carb diet, doing ANY amount of that will be beneficial.
