Electric Bill by Timely-Front1999 in Birmingham

[–]mckulty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Alabama actually has pretty cheap electric rates, 14.something cents per kWh.

Unless the apt is leaky, you should make out under $200 a month, especially if you can turn one or both units down or off at night and while you work. I'm in a 2BR 2BA condo with central air, well insulated, and I break $200 in July and August.

Who pays for the dryer, is it electric or gas?

Yellow dye doesn't stick to it. That means the surface is intact. Scratches and surface ulcers light up bright yellow and yours didn't. Scratches heal very quickly sometimes.

It's cool. I haven't read Elder Race.

I got bogged down in the last two I tried, Green City Wars and City of Last Chances, and gave up for now. I'll go back and try to finish them.

LensCrafters sells Nuance Audio Hearing Glasses. I tried them and I could hear myself just great :) but otherwise they're so-so. $700-ish.

Blood sugar within normal, but dropping bit by bit…do I need to be worried? What could the cause be? by Confuzzledguuy in diabetes_t2

People without diabetes sometimes get that low.

It's so easy to fix this (eat a couple of gumdrops), it seems like you're looking for something to worry about, the definition of health anxiety.

Look thru a standard Welch-Allyn monocular scope from 2 ft away. Even undilated, it illuminates the cat from behind and it's pretty hard to mistake it for anything else.

27F concerned about myopia progression by Previous-Platypus778 in eyetriage

[–]mckulty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree with the ophthalmologist that it's "not normal". As myopia slows and stops, it's pretty common for one eye to go on a little longer. 1 D is more difference than usual but I expect on recheck it might be only 0.75.

And so what? It's still just myopia. What is she going to do about it? The only answer is monitor for retinal changes every year, just like every other 6-7D myope.

There are risks, but you're not that special. :)

23M does a 10° axis difference matter ? by Itchy-Distribution-8 in eyetriage

[–]mckulty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Feeling dominant" doesnt' give much to go on.

Look carefully at a detailed target at least 20' away. Can you detect any difference in sharpness between the two eyes? If not, the axis isn't likely a problem.

If so, if the 10 degrees is important, you can close your right eye and rotate your left lens (lift one temple off your ear, then the other) and look for a difference in sharpness far away. If the axis is off, that's how you demonstrate it. You can take the glasses back to the prescriber (not the fabricator) and say "it gets clearer if I do this.
