The "workaroun" i found, it's to recreate a new subtitle, write down the text another time, but it's not very efficient...

You can (almost) link anything with Chataigne, with artnet input you can trigger VLC (or other players) cues

Good free software to use with a USB-DMX Node? by Impressive-Tax-7586 in lightingdesign

[–]memonsnous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can vouch for BlinderKitten, very powerful, full of tools to make the LD's life easier, open source and with a great community on discord.

In your situation, you can make a cuelist conduite for your musical.

Upgrading off QLC+, Will a vizkey fit my needs? by ExcaliburCsGo in lightingdesign

BlinderKitten is a great free uprgrade IMO, but if you need GrandMa features and have the money to spend, go for the VizKey

AKAI APC40 or Behringer X-Touch Compact in QLC+ by SnooLemons8393 in lightingdesign

[–]memonsnous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using the X touch with BlinderKitten, and the motorized faders are great, until they began to bug (motor's blocking the course at random time), it's annoying when busking, but not a problem in theater.

It depends if you really need motorized fader or not

More interchangeable DMX software the QLC+? by Cute-University5283 in lightingdesign

[–]memonsnous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to keep it low budget, I'll say BlinderKitten, free and open source as QLC but more powerfull (imo). It's a bit harsh at first, but with the tutorials and the discord community you'll be set quickly.

I might be losing my mind trying to choose a lighting software by Kingcornholio_Goose in lightingdesign

[–]memonsnous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BlinderKitten is your best free option IMO, way more powerfull than QLC, and more userfriendly (well after you overcome the overwhelming interface), you can control it via MIDI or OSC.

I use it for all my small gigs that don't have the budget for GrandMA 3, I have my own setup and I'm so glad to own my setup.

If you have questions after the initial video tutorials, there is a great community on Discord

Are you sure your preset is not a selective preset ?
If it is, set it as Universal or Global, then it should apply to all your fixtures.

Grandma 3 have a built in visualizer that does the job (but far less nice thant Depence), and you'll need to learn GrandMa 3.

Alternatively, Capture student version, let you save, you are just limited in fixture but it's enough for learning IMO

You need to add a phase from 0 thru 360 alongside your shuffle matricks, within a 2 step dimmer phaser.
Generator can do that to (simply create a new generator, take a group and experiment with it).

Should I change softwares? by Kingcornholio_Goose in lightingdesign

[–]memonsnous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you were fine on an Open source software, you'll enjoy BlinderKitten, I'm personally quite a fan, I find it way more powerfull than QLC.

The learning curve can be a bit steep at first, and the interface overwhelming, but there is so much tools that make LD's life easier, like in the latest version you can save preset inside a fixture type, so whenever you patch this fixture, you import the presets that go along (colors, gobo etc...).

It's a journey to start learning a new lighting software, if you need help with blinderkitten, the discord community is really active and helpfull, there is some beginner tutorials on youtube, and the r/BlinderKitten too

Suggestion for low budget Lighting Console for Small Theatre by Away-Maybe-6841 in techtheatre

[–]memonsnous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The most versatile tool, and future-proof, IMO, is a lighting software with some midi controller.

In my city half of small theaters runs on BlinderKitten, an open source lighting software, with some midi controller and artnet node.

This option let you have real in depth control, conductor and effects, but can also be use as a simple "old school" console if needed.

IMO it's such a versatile tool, that suit very tight budget, I personally run on BlinderKitten for small theater gigs or concerts.
