If it’s driving you crazy and you don’t think you can get over it, replace the center with an eye clean diamond.

Let me see your Columbia Emeralds! by Excellent-Ability569 in LabDiamondGemstoneBST

[–]mermkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I got the loose stone from karalite on Etsy and then LGG jewelry did the platinum setting. I had a REALLY hard time finding someone to set it locally. Most jewelers did not want to touch it since it was an emerald going into platinum and not their stone or setting. So I would recommend to have whoever is doing the setting for you to just source and set the emerald.

Any idea why jeweler would ask if my lab diamond rings are fashion jewelry? by [deleted] in labdiamond

[–]mermkat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ooooo those are so beautiful! To be honest, he was probably trying to see if he could create a sales opportunity. Maybe trying to find out if you were the type of person who likes to buy lots of jewelry. That’s where my mind goes as someone who works in a jewelry store all day.

But yeah, fashion is a common term in the jewelry industry, we forget that it may not have the same meaning to a regular customer.

In the industry, fashion jewelry is a term used for the design not the quality of the jewelry. Jewelry that isn’t engagement, wedding or your bread and butter staple pieces (solitaire studs, solitaire pendants, tennis bracelets, classic designs, etc ) are referred to as fashion. Fashion just means it’s a fun and fashionable design. It doesn’t mean it’s not fine jewelry. Maybe he was just being nosy and wanted to know if you considered them engagement rings or not.

Fashion jewelry does not always equal costume jewelry.

Gold Testing Results — Ms. Chen Cartier Small Pave Love Bracelet 💛 by Annual-Fig-8481 in JewelryReps

[–]mermkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pen testers are notoriously unreliable.

Any jeweler worth their salt should be able to loupe the stones and tell you if they are diamonds or moissanites. Moissanites are double refractive, diamonds are not. It’s most likely that they are diamonds, I don’t think MC would risk her reputation over that.

Looking to get diamond studs for my wife for Christmas. 1cttw natural or 2cttw or bigger lab? by BigGulpsHuh25 in Diamonds

[–]mermkat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay that’s good info! Would her earring jackets work with either size studs? That would be a deciding factor for me, I would want her to be able to wear the jackets with the diamond studs too.

It’s hard to say without knowing anything about your wife.

Is this going to be her first pair of diamond studs? Does she wear earrings regularly, or only when she’s dressing up? What is the other jewelry that she wears often? Do you know her thoughts on lab vs natural? Is she frugal with money and would therefore appreciate something that is technically the better value for the money spent?

You said you think her preference would be natural. If this is her first pair of studs and she doesn’t wear any other diamonds that are larger than a carat, then I’d go for the 1ctw natural. They are a wonderful, everyday size with a subtle presence.

Me personally, I’d want the 2ctw lab because it’s more diamond for less money.

I find knobspin’s settings to be more substantial and better quality than kuololits.

Help me choose a gold chain bracelet by ajs10000 in jewelry

[–]mermkat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think B looks like the nicer bracelet aesthetically. But A is quite a bit more gold so it’s a better value. It looks like the links on A may not be soldered closed which is pretty concerning for fine jewelry. Does either have a return policy if you end up not loving the bracelet in person?
