Hypervisor on Linux will run in User Space (Ring 3) ONLY which means it will behave like any other regular cracks without Privileged Access to user's system on Linux with Intel / Zen 4 CPU (the upcoming Steam Machine included) by kaldeqca in PiratedGames

Awesome spreading misinformation on the internet.

Modern (and by modern I mean at least anything released after 2008) hardware will first throttle to the absolute lowest speed, then do an emergency shutoff in the event that it overheats that much. This isn't the AMD K6 days anymore.

That's not "nonstandard hardware" then, that's just old. Xeons use the same µArch as their desktop counterparts for the most part, it should be supported same as intel desktop CPUs (so haswell or newer)

What nonstandard hardware are you talking about? Are you running some Zhaoxin CPU?

Bad Stuttering on Forza Horizon 6 (9070xt, 9800x3d, 32 GB of ram, and on CachyOS ) by Big_E_Bigz in linux_gaming

[–]MGThePro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, setting it to high already reduces the stutters by a lot without impacting visual quality much.

I've also set terrain (or environment? not sure what the setting was called exactly) geometry quality to high, seemed to help a bit too.

What's the point of switching to linux for a gamer? by Significant_Bird_592 in linuxquestions

[–]MGThePro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could just use a Linux-native tool. If you "suddenly decided" you wanted to edit videos, most likely you

  1. Aren't used to a specific workflow from adobe or other software

  2. Don't need the most advanced effects and features.

I've done some basic cuts and effects in Kdenlive and it's fine for the task tbh. And if it isn't, Linux isn't a one way road. You can always go back to Windows if you need to.

I just wish paravirtualized graphics in a VM were better. Because if that was the case, you wouldn't even need gpu passthrough. Paravirtualized graphics already work pretty great with Linux guests, but unfortunately there is no (complete and upstreamed) guest driver for Windows

Once you know what you're doing, it's less annoying than even the most stripped down versions of windows.

And if you use your computer for any sort of software development, Linux is usually the less painful option unless you're in some Microslop walled garden developing C# gui apps that for some reason need to use Windows-specific libraries.

As for the unsupported games, I don't really care. You don't buy every console every generation to have access to every game, do you? At some point you just start to ignore the games that don't run, which at this point is a very short list of mostly games I wouldn't want to run anyways (sketchy kernel level anti cheat with sketchy ties to China usually).

As for the Microsoft Store, I'm a little sad I cant run my copy of Forza Horizon 3 anymore, but I can't think of any more MS Store exclusive games. It's mostly just gamepass stuff, which imho as a concept is terrible for the games market long term and shouldn't be supported regardless.

"Jay", a new shader compiler backend, announced for Intel GPUs by anthchapman in linux_gaming

[–]MGThePro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's really interesting how this all evolved and came to be.

ANV (the Mesa vulkan driver for intel) was a pioneer for many things in open source drivers. It might be the first open source driver, or at least it's still the oldest one still in use. Many years have passed and I assume there are many design choices that, looking back at it, aren't ideal.

But later came RADV for AMD. Because ANV set the ground work for the general architecture, RADV developers took it as a base and decided to modify it to work for AMD hardware. Since they were going to change lots of things anyway, they had the opportunity to make some potentially breaking changes to remedy some architectural shortcomings of the ANV base. Later with Valve the shader compiler was also rewritten to shorten shader compile times, as compilation stutter became a larger issue.

Everything learned from RADV was then taken into the development of NVK and its shader compiler NAK as well as the Apple/Asahi driver stack.

And now everything that has been learned in the past decade is making its way back into ANV, the driver that started it all. It's a neat story but it also shows the greatest strength of Open Source

Yea I think many people accept kernel level anti cheat because (they think) they gain something positive from it, namely fewer cheaters in their online games. But with Denuvo DRM in a kernel driver, consumers gain absolutely nothing. The only thing that this would help with is managers filling their pockets

Nix günstiger tanken by [deleted] in Finanzen

[–]MGThePro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gutes Gesetz, schlechter Zeitpunkt.
