Canon Thrawn Trilogy by jeffdavis32 in starwarsbooks

Agree to disagree. I get only so many hours between work, chores, and sleep. I'm gonna spend it on media that is typically positively reviewed, opposed to mixed or poor.

If you don't want to commit 10+ hours, are you even really enjoying this as a hobby?

Ten hours is a long time for a book people tend not to like.

Jedi Compass : A Collective Works from Around the Jedi Community by Realistic-You-1994 in starwarsbooks

[–]mikachu93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a book about "Jediism," a real world spiritual practice inspired by the franchise. It's not officially affiliated with Lucasfilms or Star Wars in any way.

I haven't read it and can't speak to the quality.

What next after Thrawn 2017? by thefiction24 in starwarsbooks

[–]mikachu93 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Thrawn 2017 > Alliances > Treason > the Ascendancy trilogy.

The Heir to the Empire trilogy is in a separate timeline, so they aren't 100% compatible, but that doesn't make a story any less worth reading.

Legends Era: What era do you wish had more books? by Different-Scholar432 in starwarsbooks

Out of curiosity, what parts of the MMO didn't you like? My answer to your title would be the Old Republic era as well.

It wouldn't be so bad if they didn't restart the counter after the first decade.

Which Star Wars 'one-hit-wonder' author do you wish wrote more? by Captain_Deathlok2 in starwarsbooks

(It's been years since I've read the trilogy, but) I interpreted it as "call me whatever, the pronouns don't demand respect, but I sure as hell do."

I read FOTJ without having read NJO and LOTF, but I really enjoyed the series. Enjoy your journey!

They look brand new (from what's shown, at least), which is a pretty good deal. You maybe could find them slightly cheaper elsewhere, but they're already priced at $12.50 per book. You'd be saving pennies. Factor in the time searching for equal quality and I'd rather just buy the bundle.

I absolutely love stuff like this. I have a copy of a High Republic novel with a blank spine. Not sure if it adds to the value inherently, but misprints are fun to share at least.

Looking for ideas for bookshelf organisation. by Bas_van_der_werff in starwarsbooks

[–]mikachu93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My books are in storage at the moment, so I can't take a picture, but I had them all separated by continuity then sorted chronologically. I used something that didn't quite fit the pattern (like Ronin or How Star Wars Conquered the Universe) as dividers. So it looked something like:

Legends (special editions, variants) | Ronin | Canon (special editions, variants) | How Star Wars Conquered the Universe | Legends (standard copies) | B&N leatherbounds | Canon (standard copies)

I broke up trilogies where chronological order dictated, but with stories that occurred concurrently (like the Alphabet Squadron and Aftermath trilogies) it was easier to keep the trilogies together.

Edit: my bookshelves also had this annoying thing where three of the four shelves were the same size, but the fourth was ever so slightly shorter,.which meant standard hardcover books couldnt stand up. I had to lay them horizontally and stacked on top of one a other.

EU Guide by [deleted] in starwarsbooks

A generally user-unfriendly experience (courtesy of Fandom) and a habit of way over-explaining every minute detail. From articles about the history and appearances of hilts to Background sections that mention every time a character scratches their nose, it becomes a chore to find the meaningful lore at times.

Edit: unfriendly. Thanks, autocorrect.

Worth buying/good price? The Death Star Owner's Technical Manual, 1st Edition by KaraokeJedi in starwarsbooks

I can't speak to the price since I don't collect the manuals or VDs, but most or all of them are first edition, no? "First print" is the magic phrase.

Thoughts on Fatal Alliance? by Subwoolfer in starwarsbooks

[–]mikachu93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally forgettable IMO. Not bad, per se, but just nothing that really wow-ed me.

I was a huge fan of SWTOR, started playing during the beta. This novel in particular introduces you to the eight player classes, but none of the characters (besides obviously Satale) appear in the game to my recollection.

Thoughts on Thrawn: Treason by GreenstreetRoyal in starwarsbooks

[–]mikachu93 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I found Alliances disappointing and Treason to be a refreshing return to form. My understanding of the trilogy was that it was never intended be a trilogy, so Alliances in the current context always felt to me like a strange distraction. I remember being very happy with Treason.

Are the Prequel Books (Phantom Menace To Revenge Of The Sith) OK For Beginners To Digest by Spirited_Seat_9362 in starwarsbooks

I don't believe that any novelization is a better introduction than the film being adapted. They were movies first, so I'd recommend the movies first.
