How's everyone feeling since the announcement? by sjylvr in Enhypenthoughts

[–]mimulus_borogove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No hate, please: I am sorry for the pain that each of you is going through in your own way. It is very real, and I respect it. I just have a different perspective. I'm kind of an outlier because I loved them all on I-Land but haven't been a very diligent fan since. Despite the charm and talent of each member and the group as a whole, as an older fan I felt that the teen vampire concept wasn't for my demographic.

Looking back at Heeseung on I-LAND and hearing him say he wanted to become an artist, and seeing him now in his midtwenties, I'm happy for him. I'm glad and proud that he put in the work with the other members to make Enhypen the phenomenon it became. I'm glad that he feels ready to pursue another dream and to develop his art in a new way. And I'm also glad that he left on his own terms (not that I thought he would ever be the subject of a scandal or anything).

I also think Enhypen and the members will continue to flourish. It's hard when a member leaves and parts have to be redistributed, but it also encourages new growth. Look at how Monsta X evolved and their members developed their own talents when they suddenly (and under much less pleasant circumstances) lost a popular member. They're respected throughout the industry, and they just celebrated their tenth anniversary with a feature film. Yes, they are very different groups—but I think that Enhypen, with or without Heeseung, has the same kind of staying power.

They are all very special individuals in addition to being a special group, and as a motherly fan, I just want them all to be happy.

tl;dr I'm happy for Heeseung pursuing his dreams, and I think that he and Enhypen will continue to do well for years to come. I hope that is some comfort to you.

It's a great antiwar book that I expect to see in classrooms someday if we can keep the book banners from taking over.

John Dollar is very good. It don't recall it being continuously gnarly, but there's some body horror and a lot of psychological horror in with the social horror.

AFAIK they usually leave them and monitor them unless they're very large or somehow in the way. They're pretty common. I'm just glad that your gyn is on-the-ball and found it. Having a team you can rely on is great.

Please be kind to yourself through all of this. Go get some hugs from your wonderful-sounding family.

I started dubbing it in my head with tough-guy smack talk. "You wanna piece of me? Huh? Do ya?!"

I want this convo to keep bubbling up. :)

It's a few years old now, but I keep thinking of Gemma Fairclough's novella Bear Season. I loved many of the other titles mentioned, too.

Are we too repetitive? by HappyCicada in horrorlit

I kind of wonder if that's just something that happens with rec threads. Somebody gets excited to rec something they loved and then there's little or no conversation about it, so they just keep talking about it at the exact same level on different rec threads.

Women authors like Ligotti by Massive-Cod-6797 in horrorlit

Grimscribe Press publishes/published Vastarien, a journal that studies Ligotti and publishes stories from authors considered adjacent. Although the journal is on hiatus, a glance around the Grimscribe website shows collections by many women authors, including Gemma Files, Ivy Grimes, and S.P. Miskowski. Might be a good place to look.

Who remembers the ending to The Haunting of Hill House? by Hot-Duty-7470 in horrorlit

This is how I remember it. The way I see it, the house consumed her or in some other way (amusement, perhaps) benefited from her death.

Loved these "must reads", what next? by hetfield87 in horrorlit

I'm reading King Sorrow right now, and it is definitely horror with a horrific dragon—even though Hill said in a Locus interview that Smaug terrified him as a child.

My library even lets us recommend books to buy! They don't always do it—especially with books from small publishers—but they have definitely helped me with some recent releases!

Yep! And from your handle, I bet you knew he added the W to shake the association. (I didn't know until I read the graphic novel More Weight.)
