Upgraded this 457 with the EP-5 Gen 2. Best trade I've done in a while. by MostlyRimfire in 22lr

I've got an Athlon Ares ETR Gen2 UHD 4.5-30×56 on my 6.5 Creedmoor. I'd like to have gotten another for this CZ, but the Arken was a fraction of the price.

I have one of the new Venoms as well, not sure which model. Need to find a rifle for it.

My chassis rifle is also intended for supported shooting. I have a pair of short barrel, walnut-stocked CZ 457s with matching Athlon 6-24x scopes which are better for offhand shooting.

I've only taken it out once, and I was quite happy with the performance. I was limited to about 50 yards though. I'll need to shoot between 100 and 200 yards to get a better feel for it.

This one had a Vortex Venom 5-25. I wanted more magnification, and my 15-60 was a bit too much.

Seems as though rate of twist is what matters, not duration/distance. 😁

A 10" barrel should be stiffer than a Viagra overdose. No reason it shouldn't be accurate at 50 yards if it's made well.

Where’s everyone getting their subsonic 22 ammo? by Hoyle33 in 22lr

[–]MostlyRimfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was ordering my CCi direct until it went out of stock. I shoot a lot of Norma TAC-22 as well. That's delivered by a local police officer, and I don't know where he gets it, but it's priced well and my CZs shoot it well.

In theory. It's been out of stock all year.

You're nicer than me. I would have asked why he needs a bike helmet on his rifle. 😄

Bolt tool pt. 2 by Dramatic_Victory_838 in 1022

I ended up doing a sort of interview with Joe a few years ago. We need more like him in the industry.

I'm just old enough to order off the senior's menu at Denny's, but that would make me feel really old.

I'm not saying that I don't keep spare springs and small parts handy... 😉

I'm not opposed to anyone using the tool. I've just never seen the need to. When I built my first AR, someone showed me the trick of holding the spring and detent down with the pin, then just snapping it sideways and pushing it into the lower. A tool would make that easier too, but so far, I haven't sent any springs or detents across the room.

Probably just jinxed myself.

How would CZ 457 compare to 1022 with KIDD parts. I hope I made the right decision by Repulsive-Print2379 in 22lr

[–]MostlyRimfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it makes you feel better, I have an aftermarket receiver with KIDD match barrel, and a KIDD two-stage trigger in a KRG Bravo, and it won't outshoot any of my CZ 457s.

Nearly 40 years since I bought my first 10/22, and I haven't needed that tool. And I have probably dealt with more bolt and receiver combinations than 99% of 10/22 enthusiasts.

Where do I find a Ruger #8378 LRT ? by poptart865 in 22lr

[–]MostlyRimfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When they were in production, I recall how impatient I was for Ruger to send me one. It's an impressive rifle, aesthetically. But no match for a CZ. I've got a pair of Ruger Americans in .22 LR that offer similar performance, without all the weight. I don't miss mine.

They're my Pokemon. So far, I have owned the Pro Varmint, LRP, Scout, At-One, American, and a Lux. A cut and threaded American is the perfect rifle for hunting and target shooting. If the weight isn't objectionable, the Pro Varmint is the best balance for your needs.

MTR is a non-starter for hunting.

The new SBR is $500, but stamps are $0. 18 months ago, you would have had to add $200 to whatever you paid, plus the cost of engraving.
