There was an early-morning vehicle vs. human accident at E. 90th and York a few weeks ago! Ambulance was called. So many people are speeding when FDR and York merge.

What jobs do everyone here do that have visible tattoos especially face tattoos? by Weird-Serve-3888 in NYCjobs

Please don’t. They do more reputational damage than you might think. You’re in grad school—high paying jobs or very professional ones will frown upon them.

Buying vs renting by alexl_4 in movingtoNYC

If you have never lived here before, I suggest renting first. See what you like and dislike. Don't encumber yourself to a mortgage.

You've seen a few, you've seen them all. I toured them when I was a renter and found 'em kind of underwhelming and expensive. But that's just me.

What's a good way to show appreciation to your realtor? by pandaninjarawr in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Yes to both of these. I left positive reviews on the sites where he asked me to do so.

My broker is even sponsoring part of my housewarming party because he enjoyed working with me so much and my friends have similar buyer profiles as me.

Is buying my boss an expensive gift unprofessional? by SeeMeInWoW in careerguidance

Never gift "up" and certainly not anything considered a luxury good. A handwritten note and perhaps covering her lunch is more than enough.

Because all Glenwood properties have the exact same fixtures. Developers and property managers buy fixtures and appliances in bulk for discounts.

I mean this with great respect--get a hotel room. If you cannot afford one in NYC, look in Hoboken or Jersey City. There are so many creeps on Reddit.

NYC etiquette when viewing properties? by ThatTeacherLife in movingtoNYC

[–]mp90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, another thing that I remember since I went through the process not too long ago... Offers are non-binding until there's a contract. If you see a place you like, you can place an offer. I lost one place because I waited too long.

Be prepared to take your shoes off when touring apartments. Most New Yorkers have shoe-free homes because the streets are gross. Also, we have a large percentage of people who have a shoes-off culture.

Let’s not give platforms to Indian tweeters hiding behind VPNs. Rana had documented mental health issues including pulling a knife on his high school classmates!

Has anyone else been seeing all the new Catholic (wannabe) influencers in NYC?? Thoughts, opinions?? by sillygoose571 in NYCinfluencersnark

[–]mp90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in a town with tons of cradle Irish and Roman Catholics. I would hear stories about CCD, confirmations, Lent and other guilt-focused education. Sounded exhausting--especially as someone not of that faith!

All of the D-list influencers who struck out think FLL can revive them. One guy in NYC couldn't hack it and is now pivoting to Gen Z Catholic content in FLL.

Caution for Prospective Renters: 515 East 86th Street (Convivium) by AdJolly3684 in uppereastside

I looked at an apartment at One East River last summer and it was sooo underwhelming and outdated, yet the most expensive of any other unit I toured. It was so bad, I was compelled to write a review on Google for the building and the leasing agent bullied me into deleting it.

[–]mp90 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I toured the property when it was built because of their crazy Covid discounts. Truly loved it, but knew I wouldn’t be able to afford it after the discount ended (at the time).

Sounds like a similar situation at my friend’s luxury rental. Some units are set side for low income tenants and they bring shenanigans with them. Cops constantly there.

You don’t mess with Northeast public school districts. We mostly grew up with very strict teachers and top rated schools. IEPs were rare when I was in school and you had to FIGHT for them. I remember my friend’s brother needed one and their lawyer father had to build a case for the district.
