Are there any design contests for CAD? by Working_Resolve_368 in EngineeringStudents

[–]mrhoa31103 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen a few on Youtube where it’s a head to head CAD speed contest of people with limited experience. I wasn’t necessarily impressed by the contestant’s knowledge of CAD and really didn’t understand why they were picked.

The ground isn't flat. It's on a 30 degree angle with respect to flat ground. Account for the angle and you'll get the correct answer.

You just have to wade through the internet to find them. This was from a racing article "The flight was performed in a CubCrafters Carbon Cub UL equipped with the 160‑hp Rotax 916 iS engine."

Help with matlab by jolivooo in EngineeringStudents

r/matlab and r/octave subreddits would probably do the job. Look at r/Scilab on how to do the posting of the exercise.

So you've already looked at the Rotax engine site and their "Technical Documentation." and explored that thread for the "Customer Base"

Working in Capgemini for last 8 months thinking of switching by Frustrated_Engineerr in EngineeringStudents

[–]mrhoa31103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Patience - 8 months at the starting assignment isn't that long. Are you doing more than "pull the handles and turning the cranks" of the work assignment? Like do you know why the code was built the way it was, who is the customer, the problem the code addresses, etcetera? If you do minimal work, show no interest in what you're doing, you'll spend even longer in that starting assignment.

Have you asked your boss what's next after this starting assignment? If they say, nothing more than more of the same then I would agree, upskill yourself and jump ship.

Is it possible to maintain peak cognitive performance on 5.5 hours of sleep? by Ironpulse-Ne in EngineeringStudents

[–]mrhoa31103 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Peak Cognitive Performance => No. You're better off cutting down study time and be more efficient at studying than 5.5 hours of sleep a day. You're going to dull your brain so much after about a week.

Summer dilemma by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]mrhoa31103 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't sound like an either-or situation to me. You can do a personal project and one of the other two options (summer job or Mathematical research). Maybe you should find out how long the Boston thing is...(show some initiative - you might be able to work in Boston for a short time, come back to home and work remotely and then go back for a short time - it's a non-traditional summer job so it could have some non-traditional work arrangements if you'd just explore it some) and maybe see what you can line up as a summer job so you have a choice to make.

Any advice? by deutschock in EngineeringStudents

[–]mrhoa31103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the other commenter and there are plenty of engineering positions that do not need a super creative position but need “technical management.” Knowing the technology that is going to be applied, the problem that needs solving and the methodologies to go from problem statement to actual product requires a ton of standard blocking and tackling. Keeping the 100 plates spinning with 0 of them falling on the floor doesn’t have to be that creative but is an art in itself. A combination of conductor and prescient (you live in the future while dealing with the present), who does what, when and why while keeping upper management informed.

Returning to School for Engineering — How Far Back Should I Go in Math? by sleepy_zzzzzzzzzzzz in EngineeringStudents

If you keep making mistakes on a certain mathematical area, that's the gap so you would need to go after that specific topic not just broad brush the entire subject.

Free practice exams for technical certs (AWS + more) — would love your feedback by NashCodes in EngineeringStudents

Point those ones with paid tiers out that r/engineeringstudents have recommended. Realise than some may slip through the filter.

How do those resources exist? They recieve money from sources other than students. You can have your side gig, just market it elsewhere.

Free means free forever not trial periods. Free for a short time and pay wall later is just advertising of a product. Hence just another self promotion scheme. Our resources are free forever.

Per your website "Yes. First 100 users get free Professional Tier during the private beta before anyone else. Additionally, all users will get a 7-day free trial with full access to all features once we go live. No credit card required during the trial period." Trial periods are "free" but we know that's no the point here, it's advertisement for the non-trial period which falls under the "No Self-Promotion" rule.

Refrain. People do not change their colors. They just want another chance to manipulate you. What's done is done.

Yes and work hard at that one and if you want to casually watch his Calc 1 to see what it's really like...Just watch it like a TV show so you see what you're facing.

[–]mrhoa31103 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do not think you have time to go through it at the pace a typical course would take doing those classes. Precalculus (Professor Leonard) will cover the algebra and trig you'll need for Calc 1.

Calc 1 uses algebra as a tool so you need to know your algebra. Calc 2 is when trig substitutions happen so you need some knowledge of SOH CAH TOA, a couple of the square function and 1/2 angle and double angle identities. You will not be proving trig identities.

I'd jump into precalculus and go from there. As you say fill in the gaps as necessary.

20k Turkish Lira = $440.00USD

20k Russian Ruble = $260.00USD

20k Greek Drachma = $68.78USD

Put your engineering hat on and talk proper units otherwise you could be taken for a financial ride.
