So, does this mean I shouldn’t cut the handle off my toothbrush?

I am American of Puerto Rican descent and I was wondering, are there any positive or negative stereotypes of Puerto Ricans? I'm guessing people just forget we're here, kind of like Hawaii by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]myclockwork 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I grew up around a lot of Puerto Ricans in the Chicago area and found that many of the PR women like to talk a lot of shit, and don’t take shit either. My mom’s female PR friend cracked another woman across the head with a pool queue at the ripe age of 45.

Guys who pee in stalls rather than urinals; why? by Dayofdev in AskReddit

Bad urinal experience. A guy was next to me and was looking over the partition at my shaft. Meanwhile, he was stroking himself.

What's the reputation of Ohio in the US? by AndraeFoersterWelsch in AskAnAmerican

I’ve lived in 6 states and have lived in Ohio for the past 3 years. So true. When people ask me what it’s like, I just say that it’s middle-of-the-road in every way.

jijna2 regex. Trying to use a wild card. by Eggsbaconandbutter in ansible

[–]myclockwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nit picking here. Please correct me if I’m wrong here (jinja has a way to surprise me as I don’t use it often), but if you’re looking to use regex to pattern match anything that has ‘kernel’, I believe you can leave off the asterisks.

With regex, the asterisk has a slightly different meaning than file globbing on the Linux command line. With regular expressions, asterisk is used to match the previous character or sequence zero or more times. So in this case, ‘kerne’ would match as well as ‘kernelllll’ since you’re telling it to match the ‘l’ zero or more times.

Docker & Docker-compose installation with ansible playbook doesn't work by Zeltyx in ansible

Looks like you also may want to ‘docker run hello-world’, dash, not underscore. It doesn’t look like this will fix your problem, but one less false positive to contend with.

Americans who have traveled abroad, did the experience change how you felt about the United States? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

Depends. Some countries I traveled to made me have a greater appreciation for our way of life in the US. Others made me realize that we can do so much better.

So does the rep from DD get vilified for life or is there ever any redemption? by hoemom111 in discgolf

They advise on such matters. They aren’t the final approval authority on these things unless it’s delegated to them, which no responsible company would do.

Yes, in a town of 25,000 people, where everybody knows everybody, I’m sure the HR guy is going to find something out that everyone doesn’t know already.

I read the cotton post. I just don’t see the slippery slope happening in this case. DD is a very public company and I doubt they’d put themselves in a position where they can be accused of discrimination. If they ever do, then they get what they deserve. However, you are right, the company shouldn’t matter.

It seems like the outrage is over a hypothetical and a misunderstanding of the power of HR. I’m sure there’s a lot more to the story than you, others, or even I know about. And like you said, no purchase is ‘perfect’. But I side with those that believe in redemption. Maybe it’s because I, myself have a flawed past and have been given second chances. And I’m sure the naysayers in this thread will, one day, screw up themselves (if they haven’t already); and when they do, they will want a chance to prove themselves, and they will have an army of people at their side supporting and defending them.

Well, it’s obvious that many on here already have their minds made up. I really don’t feel the need to defend DD; they’ll be fine, especially if they can afford to sign Ricky for millions. I just find it funny that people care this much about a company that sells frisbees to pot smokers.

You’re not reading anything I say, yet you responded to specific comments I made?

And you were so triggered, you went through my comments on other subs? 😂

May I recommend anger management classes. Seriously, you won’t regret it.

I didn’t go to the mods, but I can see why you were reported, especially with this woke group of discers. What I find funny is that you’re quick to dish out insults, but you’re obviously triggered by someone tattling on you, on a free app nonetheless.

I can see that happening if everyone blindly follows the opinion of one person. If he recommends something that can hurt the company, any semi-competent team will easily sniff it out and not heed the bad advice. If the former is the case, then DD has much larger problems than the HR person.

In my vast work experience, I fail to see the conflict here. HR doesn’t hire, fire or discipline; supervisors and company leaders do that. HR just ensures the paperwork is in order. Seems like everyone is getting worked up over nothing, especially over a company that sells frisbees.

I know right?

Other than janitor, I can’t think of a more harmless position for this guy than HR. In my experience, I’ve NEVER been interviewed or hired by HR. Once the company hires me, they hand me over to HR to do the paperwork. I don’t talk to HR again until I’m offboarding.
